Thanks, guys. I love watching people in the know reacting to Yoyoka. I know nothing. But I still appreciate awesome music/performance/charisma, and, as you say, humility in someone so talented. You're right; her whole family is down to earth...as well as multi-instrumentally talented.

I am 50, I was a guitarist for 34 years and Yoyoka is 100 times better than any of the drummers that I played with over the years. This young Lady is better than most pro drummers on tour right now! An 12 year old girl who plays amazing and who's favorite drummer is Cozy Powell, this kid will become one of the GOAT's of drumming!

Agree! She did get sweaty palms once when she was getting ready to do a live TV show and didn’t get to rehearse. She didn’t even know that she was nervous until it was over. @@vand3rhorst Well thank you! I am honored. I am being honest. The people that like me the best are the really smart people. It's not an ego think "They're smart if they like me." It truly is a hallmark of people that appreciate me. I have found over the years that the higher one's IQ, the more they appreciate me. If someone's IQ is on the lower side (and I'm not shaming them for this, low IQ is a natural phenomenon. Of course everyone wishes they were smart.) they tend to really NOT like me, even hate me. It's not absolute, but it's pretty consistent. Smart people can appreciate my complexity. Dullards, and I call them this with all love and humility, just get confused and frustrated. I work to make things simple, but sometimes I get busy, or lazy, or tired, and slip into not-easy, annoyingly obtuse and pedantic mode. I hate that in others, so I try not to do it to. Before we seal out friendship in blood, I have to confess I can't play drums. Drummers perform physical magic using their bodies. I was a guitarist up until a year and half ago. That's when my left wrist was PULVERIZED (doctor's words), making playing difficult/impossible/painful. Regardless of the physical misery, I am still working on getting back to playing and regard it as a form of continuing physical therapy. When younger I played saxophone. I might have to go back to that.

@@vand3rhorst PS I'm on the west coast, BTW. I think you're on the east. I LOVE the South. I have a second house not far from GA. It seems Yoyoka has moved out of that hell-hole of a city called "Oakland" (one of the worst in the U.S.) and moved to a slightly less hellish-holish of L.A. I've offered to provide them insight into the L.A. area (good parts, bad parts, etc. I make a superlative tour guide.), but my utter lack of Japanese language skills put me a significant disadvantage, tour guide-wise. L.A. is a rotting morass of corrupt politicians, drug addicted homeless people, movie stars, and undocumented migrant workers. The entire middle class has moved elsewhere. It's our own fault. Well, it's not my fault. By "our," I mean the stinking politicians' fault. They messed it up for EVERYBODY. They're that clever. Super-geniuses, really. They only act like they have a railroad spike embedded in their brains.

This might be interesting for people. Yoyoka has quite a lot of peers (drummers) in Japan around her age. Two weeks ago, she took part in the Gemrock Jam (U-15 music festival) drum battle. There were two teams (red and white) of eight that did 'battle'. Yoyoka played for the red team. It's worth checking out the other young drummers (under 15) in Japan. I will warn you that the video is long (3hrs). At the very least check out the last eight drummers. th-cam.com/video/zvasiFM8IBA/w-d-xo.html

Unlike another very young female drummer (won't name), Yoyoka doesn't 'overplay/flare' when she plays. She is on point, strong and steady. I think that Yoyoka doesn't get the international press simply because she doesn't speak English. I also belive, after watching so many young female drummers, Yoyoka is possibly the best technically. She gets so much praise from the original drummers of the songs she covers, and the other musicians she plays with. Yoyoka doesn't need the media praise, she has the praise of fellow musicians and that is what makes her shine, and she's having fun is the best part.

@@sithus1966 Yes, I know, though it's her native language. Honestly, Japanese music in general doesn't get the exposure it deserves, in the US. I can name so many bands that have huge followings in Latin America, but have so little in the US. Dir en Grey, Buck Tick, Mucc, Lynch, The Gazette... the list is lengthy.
I hope in the future that Yoyoka gets more exposure, if that's what she wants.

There is one major difference between Yoyoka and the drummer you do not name. One is a child and admits to being a child, even though they are the same age. The other is a seasoned musical professional that lets her music do the talking for her.
One requires celebrities and singers to tell you how good of a drummer she is. One drums flawlessly and is always in the pocket. The other cannot get up on stage and keep time, stay in the groove and manages to miss major fills and cannot, will not, get in time becasue she holds her left arm up in the air for long periods of time. She will tell you that she is a child making history and is a drumming legend in her own mind. The other is on a list of the 500 top drummers in the world. Of that list only thirteen are females. One of the thirteen is Yoyoka Soma and she is the youngest drummer to have ever been included on the list.
Yoyoka is considered by Newsweek magazine as one of the most 100 influential people in Japan.
Yoyoka has over ten years experience playing drums and seven of those ten years have been playing up on stage as a professional. She has several thousand hours of stage time which clearly demonstrate Yoyoka's talents and skillset.
Yoyoka has a lot in common with Michelle Yeoh who played a Bond girl and took her forever to get proper recognition. One of her friends, Senri Kawaguchi is the best female drummer in the world. She has no equals. Very few men can play the off beat time signatures she plays with her timing. She has yet to get the recognition she deserves.
Yoyoka has playes a Senri Kawaguchi cover, Onyx which did get her recogniton. She, also, played a Miki Tsunoda cover of I am the Storm by Show-ya. Miki Tsunoda is probably the most underrated female drummer in the world and should be on the top 500 drummer list. She is the drummer for the longest running female group in the history of rock.
As a musican, Yoyoka is no different than John Fogerty. Same work ethic.
This is Yoyoka being a professional.

      th-cam.com/video/9jN8afVr0Ac/w-d-xo.html
Yoyoka is not a child, she is a young adult. Again, she is professional musician. There is so much more to what she is about than just playing covers such as these.
      th-cam.com/video/eXS6OF8FdoE/w-d-xo.html

This is what Yoyoka is all about,
      th-cam.com/video/WU7oR-R2HAY/w-d-xo.html
You will not find any other young female drummers with Yoyoka's skillset or resume. You have to go into the ranks of female professional drummers to find comparable skills to what Yoyoka brings to the table.
The closest female drummer with a comparable skillset to Yoyoka would be Abagail Cristesa. She has a lot of time up on stage and is a very talented drummer.

LOL!!! I have been to more than 10 Rainbow concerts back in the day. Rainbow was my first concert with my first boyfriend who was nuts about Ritchie Blackmore. When they performed Kill The King, for whatever reason it seemed louder than the rest of songs but it literally felt like my chest was being crushed! Maybe it had something to do with how fast the guitar and drums are banging away but I thought I would have a heart attack and ran for the restrooms to save my life! 2nd concert same thing happened. I would head for restroom when song started from there on in. The rhythm of this song is very stressful, too much for me to deal with lol! So yeah, it definitely raises my heartrate

I went through your videos and noticed that something was severely lacking; (no hate y'all) You need to dive much deeper into Japanese music, specifically metal.
I'd like to see you react to the band Dir En Grey, specifically the 2017 live version of Vinushka found here. th-cam.com/video/8W0h2yht6IA/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=IamHethington
The band is the ultimate in prog metal (not even the right genre/term really). This particular song really shows the vocalist, Kyo, range. In over 40 years of going to shows, (I'm 61) no band, nor concert, has even come close to touching Dir en Grey.
In my opinion , the live concert for the album Arche is possibly the best they've ever done so far. Not a popular opinion, but valid. The song "Rinkaku" shows Kyo's perfect command of the crowd, in terms of his power. Also shows the strenght of the others in the band.
    th-cam.com/video/dkc6pCCDnes/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=AngeliqueCrimson
Either one of those songs is a good representation of Dir en Grey.
Would just like to hear what you have to say about Dir en Grey.
