Same here... love garnier. My first contact with the french Sound was "astral dreams" on X-MIX 3, a Mix compilation mixed by John Aquaviva and Richie Hawtin. Since then i loved the french Sound.
I can proudly say that I saw this video in the very same year of release, 1997. I always loved the irony and the slapstick comedy in this video. Good lord, such great memories, now 1997 seems so distant !!!
all were pioneers at the time and much earlier in time, and i really am far from what is played today ,i thought electro had disaperared into a more complex style , i stoped working as a dj in 2007 and the electronique music had been improved when the electro clash become mainstream, more detailed music with organic instruments ,not just the beat but a bass line that become as important as the beat (only my opinion)
it´s far from being techno ,allthough there are many connotations to diferent styles from country to country but techno was a very defined style with a heavy beat not like this ,one might even call it the begining of Electro style like other Dj´s or bands start to do it like this at the time

I think i still have it recorded on a VHS tape somewhere heh. Although i was slightly disappointed when i picked up the album '30', it didn't have this version of Flashback on it (but i still enjoyed the album nonetheless). But what shocks me is the director (which i never knew until right now)... the same guy that would go on to make one of the weirdest comedy horrors i've ever seen: Rubber.
And is 2023, August, Sunday morning, after a long weekend... 8:40, and I have still the same feelings, as 15 years ago, as we as a family with my friends 1000 times listened this track after a long session 😉🙃🙂😎 Brings always tears in my eyes....! 🙃😢😎
Petite anecdote que j'ai entendue sur un des documentaire de "La touche française" (série de docu extra sur Arte qui parle de la french touch). Sur ce morceau il y a des dialogues en français car à l'époque, les radios devaient diffuser un certain pourcentage de musique française. Or, dans la musique, les paroles sont en anglais. Du coup grâce aux petits extraits en français, c'était considéré comme de la musique française !
