I ended up buying one of these for the exact reason you said... when you make a bad cast on a fish when you're livescoping the ability to get that bait back in fast is extremely important. There's no doubt I've caught fish I wouldn't have because of it. Great video as always keepem coming brother!!!
It was great to visit with you at the Expo today! Got some Core jigs! Best of luck to you the rest of the season! I’ll let you know how I did fishing with Andrew Ragas this summer up in those epic spots in Wisconsin!
Send a Revo Rocket spinning reel to Randy ! He maybe able to travel back in time with a reel that fast. A time before Forward Facing Sonar... Electronics have been revealing bass behavior and location for 50 years ! Experience the Raptures of the Deep... Lowrance FFS
My grandpa had 1 of the old school sonar fish finders that showed everything it just took time to look at and decifer it. I remember him telling me about a community that got flooded and buried under this lake we fished and I was amazed that one time they was doing work on the dam and I remember trolling over tomb stones there where he told me about 5 years or before. The pain of change is forgotten when the benefits are reaped but not all get to reap them.
Sense I started buying higher end rods & reels I've only bought Shimano & Diawa gear. Buy I have a abu Garcia revo x that you sent me from a give away a year or more ago. It's been a solid spinning reel, very smooth. I'll have to give the revo rocket a try see how it is with such a high gear ratio. I dot think anyone else is even close to that speed. I can see the advantages under right circumstances.
I got a revo rocket spinning reel 4000 size on a 7'6" medium heavy kistler KLX to throw weightless texas rigged plastics with braid on the reel.. Its great when i want to drag flukes across the pads! I also use it for salt water
That is an insane IPT. Over a yard per turn is just crazy to think about. Have been slowly gaining more and more Abu Garcia reels to my arsenal, can't wait to get my two new revo5 sx reels in service this spring. Granted they have the standard gear ratios of 6.3 and 7.3 but they will do nicely with my chatterbaits and top waters.
Not really insane if you've ever seen any surf fishing done or casting competitions. You want to have the ability pull up a lot of line fast. My surf rod set up is actually small. I have 11' Rockaway SP rod with a Ryobi Rami 4,000 Atoka XP reel. It's got a 6.2 gear ratio & when it was fully spooled with the 328 yards of 15lbs spider wire ultra cast braid. I had measured the IPT at 52". On my longest cast with a 3oz weight & the wind blow against my back I had to turn the crank 126 times to bring it back to me, that's around 180 yards on a single cast.
Great video. Covering water does make sense. I’ve been impressed with abu Garcia both spinning and casting. I’m looking forward to picking up some spinning reels soon.
I think torque is the reeling power. Higher gear ratio less torque; lower gear ratio more torque. I like lower gear ratios when flipping bc I want to bring that fish in and I want control.
I purchased one of these newer ones from your of your videos recommendation. It is different from other spinning reels. You can instantly tell its pulling line in much faster. Doesn't mean it is a good/bad thing. It feels heavier than all my standard spinning reel. I do, however, use it 75% of my fishing since I travel a ton and don't have the option to carry a ton of rods with me. ps: the paint job needs to improve a little. Mines peeling/chipping off.. 😞
I've got one, and honestly, the craftsmanship isn't very good. I returned mine twice for breakage. The 3rd one still has minor issues, but is still working. I wouldn't recommend kastking, as I've had issues with literally everything I've ever gotten from them. The Abu is much, much better. I haven't had any issues with it.
@@keithuitts1499 my first one had an issue with the brakes, so I returned it immediately. The replacement snapped off at the reel seat when I was fighting a big pike, so they sent me a 3rd one, and the insert in the line eye randomly falls out once in a while. Then I bought the kestrel elite bfs reel because I'd heard nothing but good things about it, and a rod to go with it. The tip snapped on the rod, and the side plate where the handle goes on the reel is coming loose. I have 20 rods and reels of different brands, and only kastking has consistently given me problems. It's too bad because the reels are buttery smooth, and the rod is light and sensitive. It just seems like they aren't on top of their quality control.
Thanks Matt. Have you done any videos on the rods you’ve made? I was actually at Mud Hole Fishing in Florida a few years ago. I’m cautiously interested. Especially with BFS rods, but would be very interested in your perspective. Happy Easter!
Everything of mine was 5:2:1 and I could not throw a chatterbait. Last year I bought 6:2:1 and 7:1:1 for chatterbait fishing. So, speed is needed with different baits.
@@geoffhonky4439I feel the same. But I grew up dragging jigs and t rigs. Guess it's easier for me to slow down considering I move most of my lures with my fishing rod. No problem slowing down an 8.5 to 1 reel. But a 6.2 to 1 spinning reel brings in plenty of line. Get too high and you lose so much torque. Thought my first fish on my 8 5 tranx was a monster because it locked up my reel handle. Was barely 4lbs.😂
Hey Matt.....I bought the Revo Rocket spinning reel about 6 months ago and I wanted to get your opinion on this. I totally get all the advantages of being able to pull in line at a much faster pace for various reasons and the ability of being able to catch up to a fish much quicker that may be running towards you once hooked....but I've had a bit of issues with losing fish with this reel once hooked WAY more so than I have in the past with slower speed spinning reels. My question is this, do you think that once a fish is hooked and is pulling a bit.....is that faster pull of the line a negative as far as pulling that hook out of the fishes mouth? Do you recommend a looser than normal drag with this type of faster speed reel?
Over the past couple years, I've been making the switch to Revo reels for all my casting and spinning needs. Love them!!
Right on!
Great video Matt. People (even pros on You Tube) get so caught up with a reels gear ratio but they don’t look at the IPT.
Two of the fastest Spincasts are Zebco bullet with a 29 IPT and the Profishiency Sniper with a 31 IPT
Panfishermen are notorious for using slow reels. I use high speed reels for the same reason as you when I'm jig fishing targets. Smart.
thanks for sharing!

Gotta have a fast spinning reel for the scopadopers so they can get there little minnow in fast to recast at the roamers!
You’ll make more casts even when not scoping
Good information Matt 👍
Thanks! 👍
Great content Matt! Thanks for the information. Nice to get content from a Central Wisconsin fisherman. Thanks!

I have a few KastKing Speed Demon spinning reels. They are 7.4:1. My favorite reels because I dropshot a bunch and they are more affordable.
Thanks for watching
If anyone is on a budget the kast king speed demon is a good reel too.

Does the red color is resistant regarding scratches and abuse? 😅😊
The ones I have are a couple of years old and still look great. Use and abuse them regularly.
Yep
Your soft plastic wall is 100x better than the selection at my Walmart
Haha
Do you also use the “3” size spinning reels for additional casting distance? I think ABU offers 20,30 and 40 sizes. Thanks!
I like the 30
Looks like I might have to convince my wife I need more fishing equipment !
Yes you do

No thanks. If you’re in that much of a hurry why go fishing
I prefer my high speed, it's much easier to go slow on a high ratio than fast on a low ratio.
I find it suits all situations 👍

You need to balance the retrieve with the fighting power of the fish but i don’t believe I’m losing fish with it
10.1-1 is insane fast! I didn't know it was that fast?
Yah crazy, I have a older Rocket bait caster that is only 9 to 1 😂
dang 10 : 1
Yep
18 lb drag isn’t bad
Usually the high horse power has
no balls
Some companies only have 12 lb drag which are useless for frogs
and flipping
That’s for the bait caster
Not sure on the drag on the spinning reel

47 inches per turn in the 40 size is pretty fast I have to say. I think my fastest is around 43/45
I've gotten up to 52" IPT. Surf rod setup on a 4,000-size reel 6.2 gear ratio with really thin braid spider wire ultra cast.
It’s fast!
