I tried it with a brass tube (outer diameter 4mm) and it worked perfectly! Thanks for posting this video!

I'm going to try a diamond tipped glass hole cutter bit. I bought a set to make wine bottle bongs and it came with some very small bits.

Many thanks for such a great video - what a neat trick (of making your own tool) - yes, it takes a bit of time to make but it beats having to wait (for online-purchased tools) for quite some time, esp. during COVid lock downs!

My 5 year old LP needs this :( I wish they just used stainless steel for any screws and the frets so that they last longer

I change out machinehead screws with stainless ones almost as a matter of course these days. (And FWIW, I have a small stock of stainless M3 grub screws in different lengths for fender style bridge saddles on hand.) It seems screws in mahogany corrode more than maple. I'm not sure if there's a reason for this. Perhaps the tannin in the timber? I'd love to know if anyone has studied this...

Hi rob have thought about using a left handed to drill bit to drill out the head of the scew because using this technique you usually can get the scew to undo you can buy them on Ebay the smallest I could find is 1.25 mm

Interesting... That's the same principal as screw extractors. I think in the smaller sizes the bit might break though. But hey, give it a go! I've also been carefully wicking wd40 down the threads when everything else fails. But this is problematic too.
I had another mahogany body bass on the bench this week with all rusted screws. Luckily I got them all out, but there were a few close calls. It seems mahogany is worst for this. Perhaps it is more tannic (acidic) than most guitar timbers...?
      Thanks for your comments Wayne.
