    Honestly, after doing my own hair for years, I've found those electric hot combs just don't give the same results as the hot combs you place on the stove which we Black American women are very familiar with. There is also a way you hold the hot comb to allow the back of the comb, that bar, do the pressing while the teeth go through the hair strands, 💯

      That's so true! Those stove hot combs were super effective in achieving the desired result. I will try to hold that way next time

    Good job Nikkie...a friend gifted me that hot comb...I had imaginations of a hot metal going through my hair and probably contacting my scalp🥺. I went to the salon along with it. However, the salon guy used it straight away on my already shrunk hair without blow-drying it first. Obviously it failed. This was eye opening👏

      Oh gosh! 1st of all stay away from such salons unless you're giving them clear instructions on how to work your hair 😅. 2nd of all, thank you ☺️ glad you enjoyed

      You don't need a blow dryer first if it is an old school straitening comb you put on the stove. If you have an electric one..then blow dry for straight hair.

    The mini electric hot comb I bought from Amazon heats up to between 450 -500 degrees. It gets my hair straight and stays 90-95٪ straight until I wash it again with no heat damage. I also purchased another electric hot comb that allows me to choose the temperature up thru 500 degrees, but I haven't used it yet. I say all that to say that today's electric hot combs absolutely gets hot enough and gets the job done. For context, my hair is 4a and 4b textures. Check what's out there again. 😊
    Also, it wasn't until I learned the best technique (spine of the comb actually straightens the hair) that I saw the same results I had as a child with the old school hot comb. And if you use it right, it can eliminate the flat iron/comb technique altogether.

      Wow. I will definitely be on the look out for better hot combs out there. Thank you.

    So with an electric hot comb you have to heat it at the highest heat use some greAse and you have to pull the comb thru your hair with the back of the comb

    • @CurlyNikkie
      @CurlyNikkie  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ahh that's good advice. Thank you, I will try that

    Them electric straightening combs don’t get hot like the ones you put on the stove I just started back using my hot comb I have 4c hair I had to learn through trial and error that it’s the back of the comb that straightens the hair the teeth just helps to glide through hair

    • @CurlyNikkie
      @CurlyNikkie  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I learned that lesson really quick for sure because the comb was doing nothing. Next time I will try the back end

  • @Brooklyn-vf6dl
    @Brooklyn-vf6dl ปีที่แล้ว +9

    Sis its the back of the comb that straightens the hair

    • @CurlyNikkie
      @CurlyNikkie  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I figured that out towards the end 😂

    The electric hot combs don’t do the job!!!!! I’ve been getting my hair hot combed since I was 7… So I kno for a fact! But with the old school hot comb your hair would’ve been FLAT AND STRAIGHT!! Try the normal 1 next time and you’ll LOVE the outcome!! ❤
    Best Wishes Beautiful…

    I was thinking about getting a hot comb but after seeing your results I'll pass. Your final result look like a blow out.

    • @CurlyNikkie
      @CurlyNikkie  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah wouldn't recommend. Unless it gets significantly hotter

    • @natrlchallenge
      @natrlchallenge ปีที่แล้ว

      You want to get the vintage hot comb you put on the stove. That sucker gets super hot and will straiten the hair. You have to be careful with it, though because you can severely increase the chances of heat damage

    WILL A HOT COMB ALSO REMOVE SPLIT ENDS?

    • @CurlyNikkie
      @CurlyNikkie  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      No. I wouldn't recommend using a hot comb to remove split ends. Hair shears are your best option

    • @CurlyNikkie
      @CurlyNikkie  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think you should be able to unravel it if it's in a knot. I'm the hot comb is a bit old and I wasn't the one that unsealed it
