Yosemite was an Indian site for thousands of years, a very sacred place too....now just a tourist destination. I truly hope Geres is well managed. Gerês is sadly a little overrun with tourists, very noticeable in the summer. The "lakes" mentioned in the video (they're there because the river was dammed) attracted way too many people who eventually built mansions and brought boats, etc. During the summer months you have to pay a toll to enter the park.
Geres being called a national park is nothing but a joke at this point. Yes it is still a beautifull place but do not be fooled, this place is not well managed and not protected in any way (just on paper). Overun by tourists as well just for fancy pictures in the pretty turquoise water of the waterfalls. There aren't even any park rangers to be seen. Geres still has a small area of ancient forest, that sadly has a road running throught it lol no one gives a damn about nature in Portugal.

Next time visit the other side of the mountain and go to Vilarinho das Furnas a village that is under water and at the of the summer reapers because the water is lower. Or go to Cascata do Tahiti but be careful there is a way to go down (many people tries to go down the cascade and die)

Hi Dave! Great video, I really appreciate all the dedication and enthusiasm you put into each video. Btw did I saw you in Tomar this past week? I just started whatchig your videos and I wasn't sure if it was you..
The true name of "cascata da Portela do homem" is, cascata de S. Miguel. Portela do homem is the name of that place, parish of campo do gerês. You only scratch a little bit of that beautiful and magical land.
Hi Dave! For the drive up the mountain, is it possible to book a bus or a shuttle from the hotel or anywhere in the city? (I don't have a driver's license)
he interior borders of the EU are practically without police control, residents can move freely, just need an identity card. Non-natives must use a passport, but the possibility of having problems at the borders is very low. These spas in Spain have hot water, in colder weather they are wonderful. If you continued along this road, you would enter Portugal again through the northernmost area, next to the Minho river, which is also very interesting and beautiful.
Non-EU citizens with legal resident permits issued by the Portuguese authorities do not need passport either to travel within the Schengen area, Portugal's resident permit is enough to legally cross the border into Spain and stay in Spain for up to 90 days.
@@matraquilhochumbo352 as long as it is a photo residence permit, it does allow to free travel within Schengen. The residence permits issued by the Portuguese authorities can be used to travel to within Schengen.
@@matraquilhochumbo352 that's not a residence permit, that's a special document arrangement between Portugal and the CPLP counties. Again residence permits issued by Portugal can be used to travel within Schengen and can also be used to travel to non-Schengen EU members states like Bulgaria, Romania, Cyprus and Ireland. Residence permits issued by Bulgaria, Romania, Cyprus and Ireland cannot be used to travel into Schengen area. You should get yourself informed properly before coming on here spreading misinformation.
Great vídeo! Have you read about smuggling with spain during dictatotship Times and about the end of Vilarinho da Furna, the last known autonomous and self managed village?
Curiosity Note: Gerês is on the exact oposite side of the world to New Zealand..... Gerês seams a bit small in this video, idk why. It's bigger and has more diversity
You don't need the passport to cross into Spain, your Portugal's resident permit is enough and you can stay up to 90 days, these are Schengen Area rules, border checks between Portugal and Spain were abolished in the middle of the 1990s. Immigration or customs checks on borders between Schengen member states are also illegal, that's why you don't see border guards.
Peneda do Gerês is not the only natural park in Portugal. Portugal is full of them. Research "parque natural" or "reserva natural" on google and you'll find most of them... Gerês is one of our paradises but we are happy to have a lot more, such as, Parque Natural: Ria Formosa, Costa Vicentina, Guadiana, Serra da Estrela, Arrábida, Serra de Aires e Candeeiros, Sintra, etc. Each of them special and amazing! @@matraquilhochumbo352 as long as it is a photo residence permit, it does allow to free travel within Schengen. The residence permits issued by the Portuguese authorities can be used to travel to within Schengen.
@@paulocastrogarrido3499 if you have a CPLP permit you cant.
Only missing is the grizzlies but I know I have seen a few cougars😅
Going there in 2 weeks
very cool video, congrats
Thank you 🤙🏻
Very nice
Great vídeo! Have you read about smuggling with spain during dictatotship Times and about the end of Vilarinho da Furna, the last known autonomous and self managed village?
Great video.. As a drone pilot i love your shots. What do you fly, also the dji mini 2, or 3?
I was just talking about that!
Curiosity Note: Gerês is on the exact oposite side of the world to New Zealand.....
Gerês seams a bit small in this video, idk why. It's bigger and has more diversity
👌🥂
You don't need the passport to cross into Spain, your Portugal's resident permit is enough and you can stay up to 90 days, these are Schengen Area rules, border checks between Portugal and Spain were abolished in the middle of the 1990s. Immigration or customs checks on borders between Schengen member states are also illegal, that's why you don't see border guards.
Yeah I think he was obviously joking. (Lack of sense of humor ALERT)
O meu avo fazia a romaria ao sao bento da porta aberta. Saia a pe de guimaraes ate ao sao bentinho. E depois voltava a pe.

Dave the sound of Cavado is on the first a, the other two a s is silent
You can drive to any country, except England because of brexit
You can drive to England if you get an international permit in Portugal or any EU country. It's not that hard though...
"Portela" doesn't mean door, but mountain pass.
I hope you can visit them all! Many thanks for your videos and kind words about my beloved Motherland ❤
Me being smartass: It is the only national park. You're right that there are other natural parks.
@@filipe2444 ok, obrigada pela informaçao, se é assim, provavelmente o que li estava errado...mas pronto, fica a sugestão para ele ir conhecer se quiser, de qualquer forma todos são lindos à sua maneira...
Don't miss ''a Ponte da Mizarela'' or ''Ponte do Diabo'' Cheers
