Here is my own personal ranking of Green Day's discography. Since I know you're gonna do it anyway, tell me how wrong I am in the comments. Just leave a like, at least.
"The best Green Day album is the one I first heard when I was at my most impressionable age of listening to music" pretty sums up everyone's favourite Green Day album.
It's a great album for sure! "Jesus of Suburbia" is one of their greatest songs imo. I was 20 when American Idiot came out, putting me at 10/11 when I purchased Dookie and Insomniac. Guess which GD albums are my 1st and 2nd favourites? Lol!
To me, american idiot is their best album. The first album I bought was Dookie. I remember buying my first guitar in 94 after hearing basket case. I learned to palm mute before i learned to play a chord.
I don’t hate FOAMF either. Tre is actually my favorite of the trilogy because of songs like “The forgotten” and “Dirty rotten bastards”. Rev Rad and Insomniac are a little higher for me. Nimrod indeed has a ton of underrated deep cuts! Agreed 110% on the #1 pick!!! Great ranking!
agree on all of this! tre definitely has the best tracks out of the trilogy, i love the songs you named, plus “brutal love”, “missing you”, “x-kid”, and “amanda”! out of the three, tre definitely has the most songs that totally caught my ear and overall i’ve come back to listen to more songs from the album than the rest of the trilogy.
I think I agree with pretty much everything on this list! Found myself audibly agreeing with your picks by shouting YES lmao. Also Whatsername might be the most underrated pop punk song ever. Definitely worthy of a subscription!
I would also put American Idiot and Nimrod at 1 and 2. Both were so 'meaty' in terms of lyrics, composition, mixing, etc..Also when American Idiot came out, I was in middle school and it was when music first became super influential in my life. I had always like Green Day's songs when I heard them on the radio as a kid throughout the 90s and early 00s, but American Idiot was the first album I bought from them and really grew into loving all their music. So on a personal level, American Idiot reminds me of those good days so much. I'd put Kerplunk! at 3 🤘 Insomniac at 4 because it's a fucking energetic masterpiece and to me, I interpret the album as an ode to the struggles of low self-esteem, anxiety mixed with anger, and it always made me feel like I'm not alone with those things. It's the only album ever that I listen to and think "Yeah, someone else fucking gets it."
I love this band to death they were the ones that made me fall in love with music: 13. Father of All... 2/5 (Nothing to say about this) Fav song: Father of All 12. 39 Smooth 2.5/5 (Again not much to say really low budget, some underrated bangers but not much else). Fav song: At the Library 11. UNO! 3/5 (Mediocre but enjoyable) Fav song: Let Yourself Go 10. TRE! 3/5 (Probably the best overall in the trilogy but still not that great) Fav song: Dirty Rotten Bastards 9. DOS! 3.5/5 (The one I come back to the most I think it deserves more love) Fav song: Stray Heart 8. Kerplunk 3.5/5 (Another really underrated album really great sophomore attempt) Fav song: 80 7. Insomniac 4/5 ( Really different feel on this album, makes me come back to it more, along with having fantastic songs) Fav song: Geek Stink Breath 6. Revolution Radio 4/5 (A fantastic return to form that caught me by surprise with Bang Bang and never failed to disappoint after). Fav song: Still Breathing 5. 21st Century Breakdown 4/5 (Does not deserve a lot of the hate that it gets, I think it has some really good growth from American Idiot while having its own style and story) Fav song: Restless Heart Syndrome 4. Warning 4.5/5 (Their most underrated album, give a listen and see for yourself) Fav song: Waiting 3. Nimrod 5/5 (This and number 2 are close. This album was a very different direction and It payed off perfectly for the future of the band and for their growth as musicians) Fav song: Scattered 2. Dookie 5/5 (One of the greatest pop punk albums of all time, it brought Green Day to the main stream and defined a decade) Fav song: Longview 1. American Idiot 5/5 (This is the album that made me fall in love with music, it's my 2nd favourite album of time, and it completely changed my life for the better while helping me through a really rough time in my life and still continues to inspire me to this very day. Thank you Green Day). Fav song: Boulevard of Broken Dreams (My favourite song of all time 👆)
My ranking (because Green Day is my favourite band too): 13) Tre 6/10 12) 39/Smooth 7/10 11) Kerplunk 7.5/10 10) Dos 7.5/10 9) Uno 8/10 8) Revolution Radio 9/10 7) Father Of All... 9.5/10 6) Warning 10/10 5) Insomniac 10/10 4) Dookie 10/10 3) 21st Century Breakdown 10/10 2) American Idiot 10/10 1) Nimrod 10/10
Hey man I love this video! I do agree with most of your picks. I might even do a ranking video, Green Day means so much to me and they're even the first band that I saw live in 2021! Insomniac is my third favorite Green Day album, Nimrod is my second favorite I can agree with you was it being close to my number one spot. American Idiot is my favorite one because it impacted my life in a lot of ways.
Loved the vid bro. Did a terrific job and agree with just about everything you stated. Rev Radio and 21CB are the two albums I have such a hard time ranking because of how much I love the albums to death. As of today my ranking would probably be 1.AI 2. Nimrod 3. Dookie 4. 21CB 5. Rev Radio 6. Insomniac 7. Warning 8. Kerplunk 9 1039 10. Uno 11. Dos 12. Tre 13. FOAMFS
putting 21st century breakdown above Warning feels like a personal attack 😅 but it's your opinion and you make very astute points and can definitely see your reasoning for it, fwiw Warning was the first album of any band I really got into and Castaway has been my ringtone for over 15 years now 👍 long live Green Day 💚
My list 13. Father of all 12 dos 11 uno 10 tre 9 revolution radio 8. 21st century breakdown 7. Dookie 6. Insomniac 5. 39/smooth 4. Nimrod 3. American Idiot 2. Warning 1. Kerplunk
green day is one of my favorite bands of all time, if not my favorite band. they literally feel like an unchanging part of me. that being said, as more of a classic punk/hardcore fan, i'm really not a fan of their sound post-2009 (though i will agree with you that dos is their best--i genuinely enjoy lazy bones and stray heart). i have a hard time ranking their albums, and my preferences have changed over the years, but here is my current ranking of everything pre-2009: 1. Warning (waiting is my favorite green day song and probably in my top 3 songs in general) 2. Nimrod 3. Insomniac 4. Dookie/Kerplunk (i can't pick between the 2 and no i won't force myself to) 5. 21st century 6. 1039/smooth (such an underrated album. an absolute banger. if this was part of any other band's discography it'd be among their best) aaaaand my most unpopular take: 7. american idiot (though i will say that letterbomb is in my top green day songs)
Yep I too got lost from them post 2009. I played 21st century a lot, but I only liked 3 or 4 songs on. I didn't like Warning overall...prob bc I liked Nimrod so much, but Waiting is a great song.
I mostly agree. I haven't listened to a lot of these albums, since I don't have them on CD (I know spottify exists, I just prefer them). Nimrod was kind of high, and I belive Uno was very low, I actually really like it. Although I totally agree with American Idiot and Dookie where they are. I wouldn't be able to choose which one Is better than the other. Both are pretty different. Uno is underrated though
I’m a new fan, diving deep into the discography, for now my fav is Insomniac, not a single song I skip here, not even 2 minutes long opening of panic song, every single song is either a masterpiece or underrated
Green Day is my favorite band. Here's my ranking of the albums. 13. F.O.A.M.F Fav: Father of All 12. Tré Fav: 99revolutions 11. Dos Fav: Stray Heart 10. Uno Fav: Oh Love 09. 1039 smoothed out slappy Fav: Paper Lanterns 08.Rev Radio Fav: Say Goodbye 07. Kerplunk. Fav: 2000 Light Years Away 06.Insomniac Fav: Walking Contradiction 05.Dookie Fav: F.O.D 04. Warning: Fav: Misery 03. 21st Century Breakdown Fav: East Jesus Nowhere 02: Nimrod Fav: Platypus (I Hate You) 01. American Idiot Fav: Homecoming
For me, American idiot is the best album ever created. For nimrod you said it was "near flawless" well this album IS flawless. And not only that, I can't think of anything it doesn't do perfectly. If I could be left with only one album and never be able to listen to anything else, this would be that album.
Finally a list that puts 21cb in the top 4. This has got to be my favorite album of all time. Is it the best? No. Is it even Green Day's best? Still no... But god damn is it my favorite and as much as I love American Idiot, I just love how 21cb flows almost seamlessly the whole way though, it expands the instrument count and experimentation beyond anything we have ever heard and even still to this day heard from the band and does it well and its just absolutely packed with songs for every kind of mood I could possibly be in. It takes almost every song and fully realizes them, making them the best they can possibly be and there is so much packed into the album that I am STILL discovering things I never noticed before hidden deep in songs to this day. Also Restless Heart Sydrome. One of the best Green Day songs of all time. Hands down. Speaking of, can we all campaign for the band to play it live with an orchestra? I need this before I die.
Honestly 1039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hours, despite being a compilation of 2 albums, is my favorite. A lot of songs on both halves I find myself listening to a lot. Slept on as HELL
I went to to a concert during rev rad tour it’s was awesome buttttttt how can u put 38/smooth n kerplunk below rev rad 😭😭 like I get all the other ones but whaaa
Not gonna talk bad about your rankings, I'd mainly agree, but Kerplunk is the White album of pop punk, might not be their best, but it a major help in kick-starting a whole genre
Personally i think i would put 39/Smooth higher because there's something about it that just sounds so great to me i would probably move revolution radio to 10th and move 39/Smooth up, probably an unpopular opinion but who cares. I would also move 21 century breakdown to 6th and move Insomniac up.
My correct opinion is 1. Dookie 2. Insomniac 3. American idiot 4. Nimrod 5. Kerplunk 6. Warning 7. 39 smooth 8. Revolution Radio 9. 21st century breakdown 10. Dos 11. Uno 12. Tre 13. Foam
Easy ranking for me 1. American Idiot 2. Dookie 3. Insomniac 4. Revolution Radio 5. Nimrod 6. 21st Century Breakdown 7. Warning 8. Kerplunk 9. 39 smooth 10. Tre 11. Uno 12. Dos 13 Father of all
I completely disagree with the placement of "tre" I have recently stumbled across this album and found so many hidden gems like Dirty Rotten Bastard, 99 revolutions, walk away, brutal love, sex drugs and violence, and my favorite, 8th avenue serenade. These songs conjure up such a 90's rock vibe and really take me back. I'm also so glad you mentioned Too Dumb To Die, it was far and away my favorite song for a solid few months, it deserves way more credit like you said.
Its basically my list, but a rate kerplunk over revolution radio and insomniac personally, the first half of kerplunk is really good (2000 light years away, chrstie rd, wekcome to paradise and one of my lies)
Nimrod & Kerplunk are their best. After that I would go with either Dookie, Insomniac, American Idiot at 2nd tier. The Next tier you got Uno, Tre, 21st Century, Revolution Radio, 1039 Smooth. The 4th and bottom tier is Dos and Father of All.
Green day is definitely one of my favourite bands of all time, so sorry if this comment is extremely long and useless lol. My list would be a bit different than yours though. 13. Tre 12. 39/smooth 11. Dos 10. Father of all- I really do like some of the songs on here it's just different than their usual/older stuff. 9. Uno 8. Insomniac- again, I like the songs, but just dont find myself coming back to them as often, other than brain stew, jaded, 86, and walking contradiction 7. Kerplunk- the songs from this one that I like, I REALLY like such as 2000 light years away, welcome to paradise, Christie road, 80, and no one knows, but the rest just dont really stick with me ya know. 6. 21st century breakdown- love the songs, just dont listen to it that often 5. Warning- I dont know how to explain it but I just really like the sound of this album. I feel like it should be higher on more peoples lists. (Edit: now reading through the comments seems like it IS pretty high on most peoples lists) 4. Revolution Radio- forever now is one of my top green day songs I love it so much, and I also really love still breathing and too dumb to die and revolution radio and say goodbye and troubled times and literally all of the songs. I honestly cannot decide between american idiot and dookie for 2 and 3 so they are tied at 2.5. Jesus of suburbia is another one of my top green day songs and I love homecoming and whatsername and how the story ties it all together it's just so great. And dookie, I just cant name a song on there I wouldn't put on repeat for an hour they are all just so good And number one: nimrod- same as dookie there isnt a single song on there that I wouldn't put on repeat for an hour, even like last ride in and take back, also, the song redundant is what made me love green day in the first place I heard it and thought it was so good I had to listen to the whole album. Many of my favourite songs come from this album. I also would like to mention, though it's not really an album, just a compilation, Shenanigans because it does have some good songs on it
My list: I just enjoy the catchy original relatable lyrics from their old album, you probably couldn’t tell, but it’s probably because i’m 15 years old lmao 13. Father of all 12. Uno 11. Dos 10. Tre 9. 21 Century Breakdown 8. American Idiot I love whatshername, Wake me up when September ends, Jesus of suburbia 7. Revolution radio 6. Warning 5. Nimrod 4. Insomniac 3. Dookie 2 . 39 Smooth 1. Kerplunk
My personal ranking: 1. American Idiot (this album is a masterpiece, I love the political themes here as well as the story that comes along with it all, this album is executed so damn well) 2. Dookie (the album that put these guys on the map, so many teenage angsty songs here, legendary album) 3. Nimrod (this album is so good, they really started branching out with their sound here with more experimental sounds and it works so well, great album that shows mikes bass) 4. Insomniac (such a fast paced and dark album, love the bass lines from Mike here) 5. 21st Century Breakdown (great album, they definitely went for another rock opera approach like they did with American Idiot, but I feel it wasn’t executed as well, still great songs here though) 6. Warning (the bands most underrated album, this album deserves so much more recognition, love the experimentation here, as well as mikes bass lines) 7. Saviors (great return to form for the band after father of all, mix of political themes, traditional pop punk sound and there’s also a bit of different sounds here too in some songs) 8. Revolution Radio (such a great return to form after the trilogy, great mix of political themes and the classic pop punk sound they’ve always had) 9. Kerplunk (such a classic album, definitely showed their talents for what was to come, so many catchy old school tracks here, production is so much better than the previous album before) 10. 1039 Smooth (there’s so many songs here that I absolutely love, I love the old school sound here, just wish the production was done a bit better) 11. ¡Uno! (definitely the best out of the trilogy, lots a catchy songs here, lots of underrated I might add, but also songs I don’t care for) 12. ¡Trè! (this album isn’t too bad, there’s good songs here, mostly all of them are underrated, but the songs I don’t care for kinda equal out the ones I like) 13. ¡Dos! (there’s a few catchy songs here that I like a lot, a lot of them being underrated, but there’s just too many here that I don’t care for, the garage rock sound is pretty good though) 14. Father of All (there’s catchy songs here that I like, but the sound and style they went for with this album just doesn’t do it for me)
1- American Idiot 2- 21st Century Breakdown 3- Dookie 4- Nimrod 5- Kerplunk 6- Insomniac 7- Revolution Radio 8- Warning 9- Tre 10- Dos 11- 39/Smooth 12- Uno
My taste in Green Day is probably shaped by being more of a fan of The Offspring but my two takes are that Nimrod is their best album and Fuck Time is a great meme song
My rankings: 13. Dos 12. FOAMF 11. Uno 10. Tre 9. Rev Radio 8. 21st Century Breakdown 7. Insomniac 6. 39/Smooth 5. Nimrod 4. Kerplunk 3. Warning 2. Dookie 1. American Idiot
14: Father Of All (Don’t have in the slightest love it but there are better albums) 13: Dos (never had the motivation to finish it but I love Stray Heart and other songs on it) 12: Tré (dirty rotten b@stards, the forgotten, x kid, 99 revolutions) 11: 39 Smooth (it’s good) 10: RevRad (same but it’s a bit better) 9: Warning (not too much to say about it) 8: UNO (best of the trilogy and definitely an A Tier Album) 7: Kerplunk! (I have a Kerplunk shirt 👍) 6: Nimrod (lots of underrated tracks and great singles) 5: Saviors (Incredible and deserves Top 5) 3/4: 21st Century Breakdown & Insomniac (love them both and can’t rank one above another) 2: Dookie (not that much to say, great album) 1: American Idiot (life changing and Jesus of Suburbia is the best song of all time)
14. FAOMF 13. 39 smooth 12. Warning 11. Dos 10. Kerplunk 9. Shenanigans 8. UNO 7. Insomniac 6. Tre 5. Rev rad 4. Dookie 3. American idiot 2. 21CB 1. Nimrod These are my personal rankings. The trilogy was like the first albums I remember being released that’s why tre is so high up
I absolutely love Nimrod, I’m so glad you put it number 2. I agree that American Idiot has to be number 1 though, anything else would feel wrong. Overall I agree with most of your picks, and I like how you had something positive to say about every album. Too many people like to hate on FOAMF and the trilogy imo. While they’re not the best albums and there’s definitely plenty to criticize, they had some highlights too.
Green Day is my second favorite pop punk band (Look at my profile pic for who's number one) Insomniac is my favorite with Kerplunk second Dookie 3rd 1039 4th and American Idiot rounding out the top 5
I really love Warning as well Though Nimrod, 21CB and American Idiot (because it's the first Green Day album I ever listened, since I was 10 years old) are great as well. I was thinking of putting as #1 American Idiot because I've spent literally years listening to it all day long, but 21CB is like a longer sequel to it and Nimrod and Warning are a bit different than the other albums of the band and I love their vibe. Insomniac and Revolution Radio are more punk like which is great. Their first records like Slappy, 1,000 Hours and 39/Smooth contain some crazy stuff, like Going To Pasalacqua, 1,000 Hours, Dry Ice, Green Day. Kerplunk is great with the more lofi recording (thanks to Lookout for that!) and pure punk rock with great tunes all the way. I also loved the ¡Uno! - ¡Dos! - ¡Tré! (and ¡Quatro!) trilogy and the Demolicious comp, but it's not as good as the rest of their stuff I believe. Shenanigans is great as well, highly overlooked. And of course Dookie. Father of all kind of left me out of interest but I have a good feeling for 1972 and what's to come. Great band nonetheless!
@@letterbombmedia664 :) Forgot to add that the bass work Mike has done throughout the whole discography of GD is very good. Okay, maybe it's not something crazy to play, but his basslines are decent and exactly as needed, adding some elements that ameliorate the songs. :) Also what an overuse of the word "great" in my previous comment!
@@dinjampnick they were pretty good with Nimrod onward but I’d argue that his fills and playing before that album like with Kerplunk, Dookie and Insomniac are extraordinary
@@letterbombmedia664 totally agree! Like the first version of Welcome To Paradise, in Kerplunk. The bass is generally very good in the song, but before the last time that the refrain is played Mike does this little fill that kills the whole song (in a good way) And let's not forget about "No One Knows". That Bassline is technically very very good for a punk rock song. And last but not least (at least from what comes to my mind at this very moment), Longview. Even Davie504 put the Bassline of Longview in the Top 100 Basslines of all time (if I'm not mistaken). About Billie Joe now... Many say he's not such a great guitarist, but let's be honest; he's not required to be. He doesn't have to be an insane guitarist so that he plays in a punk rock band. But he is a very good guitarist and that can be seen out of his creativity in albums like American Idiot, 21CB, Nimrod (I would dare to say maybe Revolution Radio too). No words for Tré. Just think about "Hitchin' a Ride". His majesty can be seen throughout every second of that song. One of the best out of Nimrod and I would say out of the whole catalog of Green Day :)
@@dinjampnick also gotta point out that Billie has one of the most distinct voices ever. You can easily distinguish his voice as soon as you hear it and you easily know right away that it’s Green Day
I remember in high school listening to there first 4 albums, insomniac being my favorite, I was so excited when nimrod was announced and I bought it the day it came out, put it in and hated it, so I listened to it constantly hoping I could end up liking it but it never happened, every album from nimrod on is just boring and lazy writing, elevator pop punk, but it's made them lots of money so more power to them
13. Father of all.... 12. Revolution radio 11 dos 10. Tre 9. Dos 8. 39 SMOOT 7. 21 6.american idiot 5. Dookie 4. insomniac 3. Kerplunk! 2. Warning 1. Nimrod
14:58 I agree, but I think this is even more so the case with 21st Century Breakdown. I feel like they legit picked two of the weakest tracks (the other weakest being Christian’s Inferno) as the singles for this album, and I think a lot of people who say they don’t like it haven’t heard the deep cuts. Restless Heart Syndrome is legit one of the best songs they’ve ever written and is criminally ignored. Also when I saw Green Day the first time and they played Scattered, I lost my shit. My favorite song from Nimrod. Didn’t think they’d play that but fuck that was amazing 😀
Really unpopular opinion, but 39/smooth is my favorite album, I’ve always loved that one out of all their 90s album. And honestly, I don’t really bother with any of the other albums past Nimrod
Would put 21st Century Breakdown lower, as you suggest some would. While it does have some great material on it it was the first Green Day album that had cringey lyrics, and the seven year wait for it hurt. American Idiot, Nimrod, Warning and Dookie are my joint favourites.
I actually really like that early production during the lookout days but I also like pretty much anything they’ve put out since. One of my favorite bands also.
My ranking: 13) Dos 12) Father of All 11) Tré 10) Shenanigans 9) Uno 8) 21st Century Breakdown 7) Kerplunk 6) Rev Radio 5) Insomniac 4) Dookie 3) Warning 2) Nimrod 1) American Idiot
I'm here thinking it's crazy I didn't know half of these albums existed...a long time fan I guess but after American Idiot I stopped seeking anymore Greenday.
unpopular opinion uno is one of my fav albums it just sounds different I think it's the best of the trilogy. I also dont care too much for 21st century breakdown but I would see why someone would have it that high. I would switch nimrod and dookie and put uno a lot higher but love the list.
My Ranking 13) FOAMF 12) Rev Rad 11) 21st Century Breakdown 10) Warning 9) Dos 8) Uno 7) Tre 6) American Idiot 5) Dookie 4) 39/Smooth 3) Nimrod 2) Insomniac 1) Kerplunk

@@letterbombmedia664 Thanks Letterbomb Media. I forgot to say that cheers for mentioning these songs: 80 (especially 80, my fav on Kerplunk. I wish they could do this live again). Mike Dirnt does shine on this. Having A Blast The deep cuts of Nimrod and Warning And many others…. Also, Meet Me On The Roof is my fav on FOAM and I have the same fav song on UNO as you (Nuclear Family). 🤘👍
@@twopointoooh Interesting opinion. I really like it. I also like “21 Guns”, but the thing is 21 Guns” used to be one of my favs off 21CB, but overtime, I’ve just gotten more fond of others songs on that same album. Not my fav on there nowadays but I still enjoy it.
My list would be: Father of all, tre, 39smooth, nimrod, uno, dos, insomniac, warning, kerplunk, 21st century breakdown, dookie, revolution radio, American Idiot
My ranking is 13. Father of All 12. Dos 11. Tre 10. Uno 9. Revolution Radio 8. 21st Century Breakdown 7. Warning 6. Nimrod 5. American Idiot 4. Insomniac 3. Dookie 2. Kerplunk 1. 39/Smooth

I think 21st cb and american idiot both deserve a tie for first place. Then foamf is in my personal opinion top 5. I dont get all the hate. Its amazing
"The best Green Day album is the one I first heard when I was at my most impressionable age of listening to music" pretty sums up everyone's favourite Green Day album.
American Idiot came out when I was like, 10/11, so yeah definitely since it’s my favorite ❤️🖤
I’m 18 and the first greenday album i heard was not my favorite, their new work is pretty bad and nimrod is peak.
Yup, dookie for me
"i dont need billie moaning in my ear thank you" well i do
I don’t hate FOAMF either.
@@yes-sk6xh Same!
Tbh I would of put 21st century breakdown at first but that’s just bc it was the first I listened too, I feel it is so underrated
I don’t blame you, that album is amazing. I wish I could put it at first
@letterbombmedia664 yea, I was thinking number 1 is either 21st century breakdown Dookie or American idiot
Nimrods redundant is another very underrated song
Love that song ❤️
Amazing song.
Personally, the trilogy could have been a masterpiece if it had been carefully selected for one album.
My thoughts exactly
I wouldn't say a masterpiece more like a decent album
I think insomniac is the #1 album
I think I agree with pretty much everything on this list! Found myself audibly agreeing with your picks by shouting YES lmao. Also Whatsername might be the most underrated pop punk song ever. Definitely worthy of a subscription!
Thank you so much!
Nice content. I love the knowledge you shared about Greenday. One of my favorite band of all time! :) Thanks!
Thank you so much!
Wake me up when september ends just tires me and I skip it sometimes, but it allways hits home when I hear it on the radio, + it's a great memw

(My favourite song of all time 👆)

Insomniac is my third favorite Green Day album, Nimrod is my second favorite I can agree with you was it being close to my number one spot. American Idiot is my favorite one because it impacted my life in a lot of ways.
Can’t wait to see your ranking if you do decide to do it!

putting 21st century breakdown above Warning feels like a personal attack 😅 but it's your opinion and you make very astute points and can definitely see your reasoning for it, fwiw Warning was the first album of any band I really got into and Castaway has been my ringtone for over 15 years now 👍 long live Green Day 💚

green day is one of my favorite bands of all time, if not my favorite band. they literally feel like an unchanging part of me. that being said, as more of a classic punk/hardcore fan, i'm really not a fan of their sound post-2009 (though i will agree with you that dos is their best--i genuinely enjoy lazy bones and stray heart). i have a hard time ranking their albums, and my preferences have changed over the years, but here is my current ranking of everything pre-2009:
1. Warning (waiting is my favorite green day song and probably in my top 3 songs in general)
2. Nimrod
3. Insomniac
4. Dookie/Kerplunk (i can't pick between the 2 and no i won't force myself to)
5. 21st century
6. 1039/smooth (such an underrated album. an absolute banger. if this was part of any other band's discography it'd be among their best)
aaaaand my most unpopular take:
7. american idiot (though i will say that letterbomb is in my top green day songs)
Great list! They’re my favourite band, too. It was tough
I’m a new fan, diving deep into the discography, for now my fav is Insomniac, not a single song I skip here, not even 2 minutes long opening of panic song, every single song is either a masterpiece or underrated
my green day albums ranked:
1 - dookie
2 - 1039 smoothed out slappy hours

Where would saviors be at?
For me, American idiot is the best album ever created. For nimrod you said it was "near flawless" well this album IS flawless. And not only that, I can't think of anything it doesn't do perfectly. If I could be left with only one album and never be able to listen to anything else, this would be that album.
I just subbed. I did put nimrod as number one.
Amy from album Dos , is the one of the best slow songs of Green Day imo. 🎶
I could never say which ones my least to most favorite cause I love em all LOL.. except I feel the same about Father of all
Finally a list that puts 21cb in the top 4.
Couldn’t have said it better myself. Such an underrated classic. Yes, classic
I think I might have to listen to the newer Green Day stuff. My favourite album is Insomniac.

9. 39 smooth

13 Father of all
I completely disagree with the placement of "tre" I have recently stumbled across this album and found so many hidden gems like Dirty Rotten Bastard, 99 revolutions, walk away, brutal love, sex drugs and violence, and my favorite, 8th avenue serenade.
I 100% agree Dos is the best of the 3, and I think it’s no contest actually. I have not found a single person put dos ahead of others.
21st century breakdown is the perfect follow up to AI to me. It’s such a good album!!!!!
I feel like this video is wrong but brought back memories and told me about albums I didn’t know existed
Green day is definitely one of my favourite bands of all time, so sorry if this comment is extremely long and useless lol. My list would be a bit different than yours though.
13. Tre
12. 39/smooth
11. Dos
10. Father of all- I really do like some of the songs on here it's just different than their usual/older stuff.
9. Uno
8. Insomniac- again, I like the songs, but just dont find myself coming back to them as often, other than brain stew, jaded, 86, and walking contradiction
7. Kerplunk- the songs from this one that I like, I REALLY like such as 2000 light years away, welcome to paradise, Christie road, 80, and no one knows, but the rest just dont really stick with me ya know.
6. 21st century breakdown- love the songs, just dont listen to it that often
5. Warning- I dont know how to explain it but I just really like the sound of this album. I feel like it should be higher on more peoples lists. (Edit: now reading through the comments seems like it IS pretty high on most peoples lists)
And dookie, I just cant name a song on there I wouldn't put on repeat for an hour they are all just so good
And number one: nimrod- same as dookie there isnt a single song on there that I wouldn't put on repeat for an hour, even like last ride in and take back, also, the song redundant is what made me love green day in the first place I heard it and thought it was so good I had to listen to the whole album. Many of my favourite songs come from this album.
I also would like to mention, though it's not really an album, just a compilation, Shenanigans because it does have some good songs on it
My list:
I just enjoy the catchy original relatable lyrics from their old album, you probably couldn’t tell, but it’s probably because i’m 15 years old lmao
13. Father of all
12. Uno
11. Dos

switch kerplunk! and 1039 then 1039 with insomniac then u gotta perfect list
Its a little unique and I respect it
I thought I was the only person who has kerplunk at number 1
My personal ranking:
1. American Idiot (this album is a masterpiece, I love the political themes here as well as the story that comes along with it all, this album is executed so damn well)
2. Dookie (the album that put these guys on the map, so many teenage angsty songs here, legendary album)
3. Nimrod (this album is so good, they really started branching out with their sound here with more experimental sounds and it works so well, great album that shows mikes bass)
4. Insomniac (such a fast paced and dark album, love the bass lines from Mike here)
5. 21st Century Breakdown (great album, they definitely went for another rock opera approach like they did with American Idiot, but I feel it wasn’t executed as well, still great songs here though)
6. Warning (the bands most underrated album, this album deserves so much more recognition, love the experimentation here, as well as mikes bass lines)
7. Saviors (great return to form for the band after father of all, mix of political themes, traditional pop punk sound and there’s also a bit of different sounds here too in some songs)
8. Revolution Radio (such a great return to form after the trilogy, great mix of political themes and the classic pop punk sound they’ve always had)
9. Kerplunk (such a classic album, definitely showed their talents for what was to come, so many catchy old school tracks here, production is so much better than the previous album before)
10. 1039 Smooth (there’s so many songs here that I absolutely love, I love the old school sound here, just wish the production was done a bit better)
11. ¡Uno! (definitely the best out of the trilogy, lots a catchy songs here, lots of underrated I might add, but also songs I don’t care for)
12. ¡Trè! (this album isn’t too bad, there’s good songs here, mostly all of them are underrated, but the songs I don’t care for kinda equal out the ones I like)
13. ¡Dos! (there’s a few catchy songs here that I like a lot, a lot of them being underrated, but there’s just too many here that I don’t care for, the garage rock sound is pretty good though)
14. Father of All (there’s catchy songs here that I like, but the sound and style they went for with this album just doesn’t do it for me)
Dookie is my favorite album 100%
I love Dos. Uno and then Tre. American Idiot is my favorite but 21st Century and Warning are up near the top. I also love their new one, Saviors.

Spot on about 21st Century Breakdown its a masterpiece.
My taste in Green Day is probably shaped by being more of a fan of The Offspring but my two takes are that Nimrod is their best album and Fuck Time is a great meme song
I'd have put their first two albums considerably higher, but ranking American Idiot #1 is a scorching-hot take that I've been saying for years

2: Dookie (not that much to say, great album)
1: American Idiot (life changing and Jesus of Suburbia is the best song of all time)

Honestly I’d put father of all higher, but other than that I agree with every ranking
Green Day is my second favorite pop punk band
(Look at my profile pic for who's number one)
Insomniac is my favorite with Kerplunk second Dookie 3rd 1039 4th and American Idiot rounding out the top 5
Really? Tre was a masterpiece! By far the best of the trilogy! It may very well be a top five Green Day album for me!
Honestly, I don’t blame you man! It’s not a bad album at all. Some of my favourite songs from them are on there
Tbh I like father of all
I really love Warning as well
Though Nimrod, 21CB and American Idiot (because it's the first Green Day album I ever listened, since I was 10 years old) are great as well.
Couldn’t have said it better myself!
@@letterbombmedia664 :)
Forgot to add that the bass work Mike has done throughout the whole discography of GD is very good. Okay, maybe it's not something crazy to play, but his basslines are decent and exactly as needed, adding some elements that ameliorate the songs. :)
Also what an overuse of the word "great" in my previous comment!
The bass is generally very good in the song, but before the last time that the refrain is played Mike does this little fill that kills the whole song (in a good way)
And let's not forget about "No One Knows".

5 years*
I actually really like that early production during the lookout days but I also like pretty much anything they’ve put out since. One of my favorite bands also.
This is accurate although I’d put dookie at number 1

I'm here thinking it's crazy I didn't know half of these albums existed...a long time fan I guess but after American Idiot I stopped seeking anymore Greenday.
unpopular opinion uno is one of my fav albums it just sounds different I think it's the best of the trilogy. I also dont care too much for 21st century breakdown but I would see why someone would have it that high. I would switch nimrod and dookie and put uno a lot higher but love the list.
Thank you, man! Uno definitely has some bangers for sure
6:52 that’s my favorite Green Day song ever

80 (especially 80, my fav on Kerplunk. I wish they could do this live again). Mike Dirnt does shine on this.

@@Joelster-og4pf 21 Guns for me makes the 21st Century Breakdown album so much better in my opinion.

AGREED dos is the best of the trilogy
No I agree with 21st century’s placement
Someone gets it
So do I. 21CB gets seriously overlooked. Everyone just centers on 21 Guns when it has a whole lot of fantastic songs.
American Idiot, Nimrod, and Dookie are top three for me.
I think 21st cb and american idiot both deserve a tie for first place. Then foamf is in my personal opinion top 5. I dont get all the hate. Its amazing
