All Drake MIXED BAG Limit! | SOLO Kayak Duck Hunting

- Matt is out for a solo kayak duck hunt. He sets up in some cattails with his 28 gauge. It takes a little while but eventually ducks start working into his spread. It ends up turning into a great day of duck hunting with nice flocks of ducks finishing right into the decoy spread. Hard to beat a duck limit in some of the most beautiful scenery around.

I call that one of the best hunts yet when you can get different species and not even a single mallard and all Drake's on top of that, I don't think you could ask for anything better

Those teal were just messing with ya lol... great shooting in that wind that's always been tough to me. Also glad you're seeing ducks, northern Minnesota evidently ran out of ducks😂 haven't seen any in all my usual spots so hopefully with some colder weather we will get a push....

Great hunt! Found your channel a couple days ago as I am looking at purchasing a 28 gauge for waterfowl hunting. Enjoy your videos and really looking hard at the SBE3 in 28. The ported barrel on the Ethos scares me a bit. I have an old WIN 12 with a ported barrel and it deafens everyone in a 10 yard radius. :D Keep them coming!
Thanks! I have both the SBE3 and Ethos in 28 gauge. I like the Ethos way more. None of my partners have mentioned anything about the porting from the Ethos over the past few years.

@Scotty777 I'll have to do that. My SBE3 lost its rib and bead after only a week of hunting. To me the Ethos also feels better constructed.
Matt I never thought Id say this but thanks for missing that Pintail on your 2 shots. I had a Pintail drake come in and I missed twice because I was shaking and connected on my 3rd my buddy was giving me grief because I missed, and he shot the hen that was with him now I can show him I'm not the only one lol. Awesome duck hunt congratulations on a Awesome bag. The drake was my first Pintail.
Haha nice! I've done that before on a nice pintail drake late season, except I missed three times.

Awesome hunt! I’ve been having good luck moving the spinner about 50 yards behind me or off to the side as the morning progresses. Seems to still attract birds at long range and birds seem more willing to finish to the water without the spinner in their face. Any experience using spinners other than directly in the spread? Looking forward to the late season content👍

I love it. Really stable and can hold a bunch of gear. I'll have to do that in the offseason

Hey Matt, what kind of range are you getting with the Avian X powerflight remote. I’ve been looking at getting one but haven’t heard great things about the remote.
It works well enough from 30-40 yds. Most of the time I turn it on when I'm putting it out though.

Any reason you wait for the spinner to be set out? I’ve always set mine right away and turn em on at first light. Pull em if need be later on. Just curious on your insights
I prefer not using one. So if birds are working without it early, I don't mess with it. When I do put it out, I'd rather have sunlight hitting it for more flash.

Where do you put your decoys on your paddle out? Do you float them behind?
I put them on the backend of the kayak and also will pull a sled if I take a lot out.

Huh, don't seem to have a problem shooting those "gagwall" this season.
I've never had a problem taking them. I'll pass if there's better eating ducks around. Usually bag a handful each year.
How long do these hunts take you?
They range from a couple hours to all day.

Personally i dont like the taste of ring neck or bufflehead so i would never waste a shell on one other than to put my dog on a bird on a slow day but i guess some folks eat em up
They're not bad in chili or jerky.
