The creator of Metal Heroes, Toei Company, deserves immense credit for bringing these iconic characters to life. Their visionary approach to storytelling and their ability to create compelling narratives with cutting-edge special effects set a new standard for the industry🙌
Actor Hiroshi Miyauchi, who played boss Shunsuke Masaki in Winspector, Solbrain and Exccedraft, debuted in tokusatsu playing Kamen Rider V3. He was also the Ao Ranger in Gorenger, Big One in JAKQ, Zubat in Kaiketsu Zubat, and the boss Naoyuki Miura in Ohranger.
I feel the Heisei era of Kamen Rider was low-key the successor to metal heroes where they moved away from the cyborg/body horror aspects of the protagonists towards the dude in a armored combat suit.
The last two series, Kabutack and Robotack, have a similar conceit: children as the main characters, with cute robot partners that can transform from a super-deformed look to a standard hero silhouette, and the series have generally lower stakes than the other Metal Hero shows. The reason the series ended shortly after was due to Toei kicking off plans to reboot Kamen Rider with Kuuga in 2000.
Yes, they did adapt Metalder and Spielban into VR Troopers, hence why Kaitlin and JB never appear in the same shot as Ryan when transformed, (if you exclude the original footage filmed with the suits for Spielban and Metalder, and the battle grid mode fights, fun fact the battle grid helmets were literally repainted Red Ranger helmets.) Now, for season 2 they used footage from Space Sheriff Shaider for Ryan.
We strive to provide our subscribers with what they desire, despite the limitations of showcasing everything on TH-cam. In addition, we are actively developing our Patreon community to address any gaps. We sincerely appreciate your recommendation, and we thoroughly enjoyed watching the metal heroes.
Great video love seeing the genuine looks of enthusiasm you guys have watching these it's so fun and very infectious. Keep up the great work and enjoyment you have for doing this
The Solbrain, Winspector, and Exceedraft opening themes were sung by Takayuki Miyauchi, who also sang the songs from Chou Denshi Bioman and Kamen Rider Black RX.
Metal Heroes was my favorite franchise, the series are AMAZING. I'm from Brazil and here it went from Gavan to Solbrain, that is, we were lucky to watch more than half of the franchise in our language and on TV, it was sensational. Until today I wait for the return of this franchise that I love so much, TOEI Company made some films about the franchise, but for now we don't have anything else, unfortunately. Curiosity: Kabutack and Robotack are not considered part of the franchise by fans, due to the high comic content, although there are jokes and humor in the series, nothing is THAT BIG like these two, so it is a consensus among fans that they are not part by Metal Heroes. (Although yes... they do.) If I can make a recommendation for you, also check out the ENDINGS of both Super Sentai and Metal Heros (Kamen Rider only had endings in the old ones and some current ones), they are also really cool.
About Jiban and Janperson, them ressembling Robocop is not a coincidence, they were made as hommage to Robocop (in Jiban's case, it's to the point that some Shots mirror those of the Robocop Movies)
All the songs were good, even the last two. That last one was sung by Kageyama Hironobu, who sang the OPs from Hikari Sentai Maskman, Dengeki Sentai Changeman, and Chojin Sentain Jetman.
Fact: Gavan has an Americanized version of himself appearing in Power Ranger Beast Morpher, called Captain Chaku (bruhhh, bad name) Jiraiya also has an Americanized version, appearing in the movie Power Ranger Super Ninja Steel or something, he is called Sheriff Skyfire. The main actor of the Shaider series is the son of the founder of Tsuburaya Production, the maker of the Ultraman series Jiban is really like a Japanese Robocop In Metalder this is a very psychological series when the main character has to face the fact that he has become a Cyborg. The Space Sheriff trio of Gavan, Sharivan and Shaider later have a new generation of juniors, deployed since 2012.Americanized
Actually, when Metal Hero aired, Kamen Rider isn't around, the last series was aired in 1989 and Kamen Rider won't be back until the year 2000, 2 years after Metal Hero series ended. Same goes with Ultraman, last ultraman season aired in 1980 until Ultraman Tiga aired in 1996, event after that in 1998 after the completion of Ultraman Gaia, Ultraman will enter hiatus again and only keep alive with few direct to video series. So actually at the time, Super Sentai is the only weekly Tokusatsu Series aired in 1998 and 1999.
about the later robot heroes being similar to robocop: Well, Robocops design was "heavily" influenced by Space Sheriff Gavan - Like to the point that, in modern times, laywers would normally start to get involved if this would've happened nowadays. So they pretty much let Japan get away with copieng robocop back so there wouldn't be any legal trouble or issue cropping up. If you ever wondered why Robocop in the reboot barely sported his iconic silver colouring this is the reason - They wanted to get as far away as possible from Gavans design, just to make sure. also: Metal heroes tended to go very, very heavy in the story department. Winspector for example was only allowed to air about 20 episodes in Germany because A LOT of the episodes actually got an age rating of 16 and above there. To give you an example, in one episode a kid takes the chief and main mechanic of the team hostage to force them to prove his fathers innocense (who was a formerly convicted bank robber who had gone missing a few weeks prior). The heroes manage to clean the fathers name, but the true culprits killed him before the heroes could catch them. Mind you again, this was a show aimed at young children.
A big problem I have with Tokusatsu is that they sometimes try to have their cake and eat it to. Like they try and tell these complex dramatic stories yet they also try and market it to kids. Sometimes it works like in Abaranger and other times it obviously doesn’t because after the excellence that was Timeranger we got the snooze fest that was Gaoranger.
Funny thing is, the darker, more serious seasons tend to do worse in Japan. Case in point: Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters. While there was still some goofy, lighthearted fun, there were also times when things go real dark such as: the main trio sacrficing the lives of everyone who got digitized by Messiah to ensure that they can stop the rogue A.I. from conquering the world using the limitless power of Enetron (fictional power source that got localized as "Morph-X" in Beastmorphers and tied to the American canon of "The Morphing Grid"), or literally having to chose to sacrifice the digital avatar (and chance to restore the real individual) who had inspired one of the main trio in order to save the life of another member of the main trio since he was getting turned into a cyborg copy of the BBEG they had sacrificed their parents (oh, did I forget to mention that among the scientists that had been digitized by Messiah was the main trio's parents) in order to stop Messiah.
The openings themes from Jikuu Senshi Spielban, Kyoju Tokusou Juspion, Choujinki Metalder and Juukou B-Fighter. I'd like to watch Metalder. The opening is good and the score was composed by Seiji Yokoyama who also composed the score for Saint Seiya.
They did have a short Metal Heroes revival with films and guest starting crossovers with Sentai and Rider. Heck, some kamen rider series are practical Metal Heroes in varying degrees.
I remember the first metal heroes having a supernatural ancient aliens thing going on, then they moved into cop shows, then it got kid-friendly. What a trip! Also Ani from Shaider is a childhood crush of mine. :)
Until this time, Kabutack and Robotack were debated their Canonical in Metal Heroes series because their concept and theme were really different, with both series are focused on the children audience with their goal theme are Heroes that family friendly, solving any problems that caused anomaly in the enviroment
Fact 2: Gavan, Sharivan and Shaider trilogy of Uchu Keiji (Space Sheriff) series The 3 series are Winspector, Solbrain and Exceedraft of the Rescue Police series The 2 series are Juukou B-Fighters and B-Fighter Kabuto (2 sets were adapted into Big Bad Beetleborg) of the B-Fighter series. The last 2 series, B-Robo Kabutack and Tetsuwan Tantei Robotack, are for children's audience, so the style is "cartoon". In Rescue Police 3, there is a good point, in -In Winspector there is only 1 human warrior and 2 robot warriors -In the Solbrain set, there are 2 human warriors and only 1 cyborg warrior In Exceedraft, all 3 warriors are human. Thereby seeing the increase in the number of human members
I just realized that theres a ton of law enforcement/first responder/emergency rescue based toku shows. Also Fun-Fact about B-Fighter Kabuto, there's a character played by Dante from Devil May Cry
Great video, it brought back good memories, I'm Brazilian and without a doubt what marked this generation the most was Janperson, without a doubt he is one of the most loved around here, even in 2019 a Brazilian made a 3D animation that brought the idea of producing even a film, unfortunately with the pandemic no proposal went ahead.
I literally just found your reactions to Super Sentai and Kamen Rider like 2 days ago. I'm glad to see you did Metal Heroes too! Your insights are pretty spot-on and well phrased! I hope you do Ultraman openings and the transformations for all these heroes too. Fun facts: -The first series you saw, Gavan, was part of the inspiration for Robocop. -Robocop itself would also be the inspiration for Jiban as you saw, which brings this into a nice full circle.
They did a sequel trilogy movie for the first 3 metal hero series (Space Sheriff Trilogy) known as the Next Generation. Highly recommend for a quick watch. Please also react to the transformation sequence for the Metal Heroes.
22:16 b fighter blue beet suit actor is takaiwa seiji he also the suit actor of 18 main kamen rider except kuuga and hibiki and he also the suit actor of some red rangers time force lightspeed lost galaxy mystic alien ranger and he's the Green Ranger in MMPR
Shaider was big back on the day here in the Philippines. Had its own dub too. There is some official power scaling regarding the Space Sheriffs and Sentai teams. Each Space Sheriff is good enough at their job to be as strong as a whole sentai team. Certain Sentai shows have one or more Metal Heroes in the show for an episode as guests.
DIscotek has licensed blurays for Space Sheriff Gavan and Juspion. I highly recommend both, especially Gavan. Kenji Ohba, the actor who plays Gavan, has crazy Jackie Chan style energy.
Metal heroes are filling the void era of kamen rider (after Black RX) as the sunday morning super hero show. So when Kuuga started airing (2000) metal heroes stopped airing
Even though it's straight up a kids' show, Kabutack is low-key goated. It's sweet and funny and a great watch if you want to just chill out and see some cute robots get into low-stakes shenanigans.
As you guys are suggesting, for sure mixing up stuff like time cops, kaijus, techs and robots would be nice. Just remember how pacific ring was massive, a really big hype back in the day. Unfortunately Japanese economy is not the same as in the 80’s and I think it had a huge impact on these productions. Cable tv and internet as well.
Actually, each of the 3 Space Sheriffs have their own movies in 2011 (Gavan The Movie), 2013 (Sharivan Next Generation) and 2014 (Shaider Next Generation (I recommend this one))
I really appreciate you guys listening to us subscribers. I hope you get to react to all the transformations/roll call of all sentai, kamen rider, metal heroes, ultraman and the like.❤
Choujinki metalder and jikuu senshi spielban two shows footage are used for vr troopers the only time you see the suits together is an original American footage.
I agreed with the blue beetle point. I really hope that the film works. the metal heroes had more freedom of design than KR and SS had I love how you can FEEL the different eras first there's the heroes of justice, which all of those old and self contained "japanese guy with superhero fights evil", ultraman, then Kamen Rider, Super Sentai, Metal Heroes, then Kamen Rider again, and GARO, but that's a bit controversial and all things considered, closer to that other show, Knights of Tir-na-nog... Gavan's lightsaber has actually received one of those live-sized multifunction replica recently, as the B-fighter/beeltleborg gun did once I've seen Jiraia being depicted as "the japanese version of Habram Lincoln descendant suiting up as his grandfather to fight crime in modern times" which isn't correct, but it isn't really wrong either... gavan actually had an episode in PR beast morpher (and, of course, GoBusters), it was when toei was trying to relauch older shows by haveing 'soft reboot/next generation" films
Sekai Ninja Jiraiya actually had a crossover with the ninja sentai team Ninninger. Due to both being about ninja and Jiaiya thought the team was a group of evil ninja...once they got over the misunderstanding they teamed up against the actual villains.
Metal heroes do come back sometimes, mostly in crossovers with super sentai, space sheriff gavan and world ninja jiraya even made it into power rangers
Hey guys, I have a question, don't know if you had already answered in some old video but did you already knew about tokusatsus in general? Or did you only knew about the american versions and discovered about the originals because the reactions videos? And if you can, do a reaction to all transformation and pose of Super Sentai and Kamen Rider. Thanks for your great videos.
For this most of fans doesnt consider Kabutack and Robotack as Metal Heroes, since they differ a lot from B-Fighter Kabuto and the main idea of the franchise of Earth in peril that runned the franchise until that moment. About the ones until B-Fighter Kabuto I can say i watched all but Jiban, Shaider and BF Kabuto itself, but i can assure if you guys start the franchise in order you wont regret.
Loved the folksinger and gavan movie also I would watch the first three and the last three episodes of the series to get the jest of it or watch the specials
I'm a Kamen Rider fan, and I will lay my life on the kine to defend that Kamen Rider is the best Tokusatsu subgenre. However... Metal Heroes' suit designs are crisps as fck. even the earliest designs are slaps harder than todays' standards.
Metal Heroes effectively was Kamen Rider. It basically aired during the Hiatus Rider was on in the early 80s to 2000 minus two of years Kamen Rider Black (and even aired during Metalder and Jiraya when Metal Heroes had abandoned the Space Sheriff style designs they'd been using for 5 years) and winded down just around the time Rider returned with Kuuga. In fact modern Heisei and Reiwa Riderr takes way more cues from Metal Heroes than the Showa Riders that came before it.
Because there are no such things as 'original ideas' anymore within entertainment. And that's not really a problem, the real problem is studios being too lazy to do anything about it.

Although today Toei is just like any other greedy entertainment studio company... which is quite sad (fortunately they still made some good ones)
@@HenSt-gz7qjyeah sad how greedy they became
They only canned metal heroes because of their cash cow(kamen rider) was coming back onto tv.
The 80s entertainment period was a vibrant era filled with iconic movies, catchy music, and unforgettable fashion trends
It was an era of passion project, now everything need to be based off of profitability
I feel the Heisei era of Kamen Rider was low-key the successor to metal heroes where they moved away from the cyborg/body horror aspects of the protagonists towards the dude in a armored combat suit.

no its cause those last 2 series Sucked Cock
The Gavan and Jiban theme still hits hard for me, absolute bangers. Also, after this I wanna see you guys cover the granddaddy of tokusatsu, Ultraman.
Yeah is incredible how gavan being so old Still has one of the best tracks. sharivan and shaider themes feels older than gavan theme
i dont think they do tokusatsu anymore and when i comment ultraman somehow my comment got delete
Thanks for taking us down memory lane👍
Yes, they did adapt Metalder and Spielban into VR Troopers, hence why Kaitlin and JB never appear in the same shot as Ryan when transformed, (if you exclude the original footage filmed with the suits for Spielban and Metalder, and the battle grid mode fights, fun fact the battle grid helmets were literally repainted Red Ranger helmets.) Jiraiya was adapted into Sheriff Skyfire, and the second Gavan became Captain Chaku.
Wtf you guys actually did this??? I commented that on the last video but didn't expect you to do it. Awesome!!

The first metal hero, Space Sheriff Gavan, was the basis for RoboCop's design.
Gavan (1982)
RoboCop(1987)
Please forgive my poor English.
Then it circled around with Jiban.
If you’re curious, lot of these had there first 2 episodes subtitled and released on Toei’s TH-cam channel.
The Solbrain, Winspector, and Exceedraft opening themes were sung by Takayuki Miyauchi, who also sang the songs from Chou Denshi Bioman and Kamen Rider Black RX.

Jiban eu sabia, mas janperson não imaginava que também fosse referência...
Spielvan itself may be at best okay, but the first 5-10 seconds of the opening with the kids against the setting Sun and the guitar riff is legendary!
The kids in the opening scene were also casted in Timeranger as the red and pink.
Some of the Metal Heroes were Uploaded in the Toei Tokusatsu Channel in TH-cam...they only subbed the first two episode tho
I never would have guessed that Beetleborgs and VR Troopers were part of the same franchise!
Miyauchi Hiroshi is truly a legend👏
All the songs were good, even the last two. That last one was sung by Kageyama Hironobu, who sang the OPs from Hikari Sentai Maskman, Dengeki Sentai Changeman, and Chojin Sentain Jetman.
14:35 i remember when Megatron had a supporting role in Winspector.

Something about old school media like this is just awesome
Thanks for taking my suggestion guys!
I like that they managed to combine Spielban and Metalder into one for VR Troopers and made it work. Big Bad Bettleborgs was fun as well. Good times~
You hae to know that Robocop took inspiration from Gavan, and Jiban took inspiration from Robocop. That's a cycle.
Fact 2: Gavan, Sharivan and Shaider trilogy of Uchu Keiji (Space Sheriff) series
The 3 series are Winspector, Solbrain and Exceedraft of the Rescue Police series
The 2 series are Juukou B-Fighters and B-Fighter Kabuto (2 sets were adapted into Big Bad Beetleborg) of the B-Fighter series.

Can't speak for others, but Blue SWAT intro gets me hyped for action!
I was singing the ending song with my friend, watching the Beetle Fighter series with my younger brother.
19:51 Actually Janperson has another teammate
This series has the good side as Janperson, Gun Gibson
The villain has Bill Goldy

Juspion is my favorite metal hero, especially because it involves him battling giant kaiju
In Brazil, jaspion is very popular and a favorite of many people.

They did a sequel trilogy movie for the first 3 metal hero series (Space Sheriff Trilogy) known as the Next Generation. Highly recommend for a quick watch. Please also react to the transformation sequence for the Metal Heroes.

Yeah VR Troopers used the footage of many metal heroes shows.
Fun how they managed to mash them together
Ultraman reaction would be awesome🎉
In the 1986 Space Time Warrior opening one of the heroes had a dual lightsabre, George Lucas has some explaining to do!
Gavan's design had a great influence on Robocop's design.
Easter egg abit, the guy who played Gavan shows up in Kill Bill Part 1 as Hattori Hanzo's assistant
Oh yeah, in B-Figther Kabuto, Takaiwa Seiji aka Mr. Kamen Rider also as the stuntman as Blue Beetle in B-Figther and Character in Kabuto
There's a legend that says Robocop design was inspired by Space Sheriff Gavan.

jiraiya also made cameo on ninninger one episode
I really appreciate you guys listening to us subscribers. I hope you get to react to all the transformations/roll call of all sentai, kamen rider, metal heroes, ultraman and the like.❤

VR troopers original is about a human cyborg.
There's an error. Blue Swat used the ending not the opening.
Choujinki metalder and jikuu senshi spielban two shows footage are used for vr troopers the only time you see the suits together is an original American footage.
Unlike Kamen Rider and Sentai, I haven't seen many of these before! That Janperson suit and car are awesome.

once I've seen Jiraia being depicted as "the japanese version of Habram Lincoln descendant suiting up as his grandfather to fight crime in modern times" which isn't correct, but it isn't really wrong either...
gavan actually had an episode in PR beast morpher (and, of course, GoBusters), it was when toei was trying to relauch older shows by haveing 'soft reboot/next generation" films
Sekai Ninja Jiraiya actually had a crossover with the ninja sentai team Ninninger. Due to both being about ninja and Jiaiya thought the team was a group of evil ninja...once they got over the misunderstanding they teamed up against the actual villains.
VR troopers was using three different series at the same time
Ultraman openings PLEASE
Crunchyroll has Megabeast Investigator Juspion.
They used to
Dope reaction
Gridman was Super Human Samurai Cyber Squad.
Thanks for your great videos.
guys, you should do Japanese Transformers opening
For this most of fans doesnt consider Kabutack and Robotack as Metal Heroes, since they differ a lot from B-Fighter Kabuto and the main idea of the franchise of Earth in peril that runned the franchise until that moment. About the ones until B-Fighter Kabuto I can say i watched all but Jiban, Shaider and BF Kabuto itself, but i can assure if you guys start the franchise in order you wont regret.
Até os americanos, piraram nas armaduras de Winspector, essas armaduras, era muito a frente do tempo delas...
So when are you guys doing Ultraman
i heard that robocop get inspire from gavan
RIP Metal Heroes... Still dead... T_T
Don't know why there's hasn't been a major revival attempt, mostly just cameos in sentai or kamen rider.
Next Chouseishin Series Opening Reaction Bro
Jiraiya is the best, with the participation of the legendary Masaaki Hatsumi as the protagonist's father.
Ultraman next🎉
Loved the folksinger and gavan movie also I would watch the first three and the last three episodes of the series to get the jest of it or watch the specials
you guy should do GARO next
I missed Cyber cops. It’s quite hard to find videos about them these days.
Gavan = Captain Chaku(Beast Morphers)
Jiraiya = Shariff Skyfire(Ninja Steel)
Janperson = Karato(Beetleborgs)
Ultraman next maybe?
ULTRAMAN OPENING 😢
The overreliance on remakes and sequels is stifling the emergence of fresh and original content in Hollywood.
Because there are no such things as 'original ideas' anymore within entertainment. And that's not really a problem, the real problem is studios being too lazy to do anything about it.
You telling me we are vr troopers isnt a original show im flabbergasted lol
