    Seems like a typical platoon of Wehrmacht would clink and clank worse than a Union Civil War Regiment? Like most Americans I’ve always been fascinated with German kit but all those loose components, straps, buckles & metal must make a tremendous amount of noise. How on earth did the 106 and 99 not hear them coming on Dec 16, 1944?

    the loose straps from the Y straps can be used as extra suspension. Just unbutton it and then loop it behind your ammo pouches on each side to get 5 points instead of 3 points of suspension. Also you can double loop your gas mask canister, it brings it tighter to the body.

    shout out to the noisy neighbour!
    Interesting, never considered having a waffenrock as an enlisted, like many I consider the service dress order or 'walk out dress' already very handsome. As a former idiot, I appreciate all the different perspectives of people who chose certain branches or services to impress. So glad the reenacting hobby has grown more wealthy with information on TH-cam since I joined. Still sad older names in the hobby have gone off YT, ReenactorGuy, even though some of his advice was more pragmatic than technical like how a gatorade fits perfectly in a gas mask carrier was beneficial to me and probably others.

    • @dergrenadier
      @dergrenadier  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Damn! I forgot about ReenactorGuy, but he was the first ww2 german reenactor on YT. He and some others of the first ones are the reason I started in the first place.
      Enlisted men had waffenrocks but when the war actually started I imagine they more or less stopped that practice. There are pictures of entire parades in paris where everybody is wearing a waffenrock so that is saying something.
