  • I have taken a lot of time to build out this 16' x 7' x 7', V- Nose, Tandem, Aluminum skin trailer. Many of you on TH-cam have been my inspiration. I want to in particular thank Daniel Mid, John Talbert, and Bill Ellison for sharing their great ideas and being straight forward on how they would do it different. Joel Reed at Reed Trailer Sales in Omaha, Nebraska sold me a great trailer in April of 2021 and it has taken me nearly a year to get it to what you see in the video today. First I had to remove the floor and install all the tanks and plumbing for the tanks. I also installed heaters on the tanks for colder weather. Four windows were cut in and the solar system was installed. The 1,400 watts of solar panels on the roof took a lot of time to secure and the Growatt panel and 48V, 272 amp hour lithium 16 cell battery that weighs nearly 200 lbs was installed over the axles. I have 40 gallons of fresh water and 35 gallons of gray water storage. The entire trailer has excellent insulation all around the envelope. The mini split condensing unit was installed on the extended tongue and line set runs under the elevated floor in the bathroom. This is my first TH-cam video - I will be happy to show much more but wanted to know first if you find this interesting. Thanks for taking the time to check out the build. My lovely wife named the trailer "Haulina"

    Very nicely done. I would probably add another camera to the right side of the V-nose looking down at my turning limits as viewed in the tow vehicle to make sure I didn't damage my tongue mounted stuff when turning or backing.

    Good job / I work as a Remodeling Contractor here in Tenn. / am starting my flatbed trailer into a camper trailer project this summer. You did a real good job on yours and thanks for video.

    • @coachgym

      Your plan to use a flatbed trailer will give you more latitude on your build - I think it is a great idea. The only downside is the complexity of build & additional time. You have the potential to have a lot more usable space. We each work with our strengths - I’m not talented as a welder or builder. Enjoy your build 👍🏼.

    I like the dual use of cargo and living space. There are many of hours of planning, designing, and building from what we see now and an empty cargo trailer. Thank you.

      Thanks hfarms- yes, and it has been nice to still be able to use it as a limited cargo trailer. I needed to move several boxes - I just cranked up the bed and where I would have put the motorcycle - I loaded it up with boxes.

      Thanks, Ken. Like I said in my first video - each one needs to build their own project for their needs. I have had years of construction experience and with all the children now adults - I have more time and finances to do things I could not do when I was younger. I have a lot of photos and info on the bed build - it will take some time to put it together - but I will work on it. If my wife & I were younger I would have gone with the gas struts but we can’t be climbing up high to get in & out. Thanks again for your kind words.

      @coachgym  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dear Tiny - we have a Habitat For Humanity Restores outlet that I check out - just walk thru and see if anything will fit my needs. They had this high priced rubber flooring by Nora - a German Flooring manufacturer that primarily sells commercial in the US. I guess Home Depot donated it when it sat on their floor too long. It was a large roll and priced at $400.00 - that was too much for me but! 1/2 price sale came along! I have enough for another trailer. It is really nice. My wife said - why don’t you put it on the kitchen counter top - and I did! Then I found some trim - I’m really happy with it. Thanks for asking, Jim

The using of the cut out from your window installation is also impressive as the overall solar/electric is outstanding. Using the front of your trailer for waste water is also a good use of space! The gold color is also an excellent choice! Thanks for sharing Mr. Cassidy.

      Thanks, Danny. Your comments are very kind. It was a labor of love. The whole Covid thing caused me to consider the build I could do at home. Now gas prices have me using it closer to home but I’m finding places closer by that are nice. Trips to the far West will need to wait.

    • @coachgym
      @coachgym  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks Living-working Outside the box. We are starting to enjoy it & the solar aspect has been a blast. It was not a cheap part of the build and with the higher costs for batteries- the cost just keeps going up. The solar panels were probably the cheapest part. All the Unistrut & fasteners were pricy & very time consuming to install. And all that had to be complete before I could put any of the finishes on the inside. I went from taking out the floor and doing all the work under the trailer to completing everything on the roof before I did anything else - no wonder it took a year of work - nights & weekends. 🤷🏼‍♂️

    I love everything about these trailers except for the ground clearance

    • @coachgym
      @coachgym  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, James - yes, that is why I asked for the straight axles. I have purchased the Dexter flip kit that would give me 5” more than the 10” I now have. It is also the reason I did the “step up” for the bathroom in the V nose - that allowed the gray water tank to stay level with the structural members of the trailer. I’ve tried to keep it off the ground 🤷🏼‍♂️.

    I built a solar system much like yours and use a mini split heat pump and I also put electric heat in the floor. In good sun I can run the a/c or the heat pump and floor heat all day with no problems. In cold weather I get the trailer warm during the day and then turn both heat systems to low and get through the entire night with no issues. It's been amazing. Awesome job you've done.

    • @coachgym
      @coachgym  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you, John. Yes, you understand what goes into a build like this - it took more time and money then I thought but I’m enjoying it more than I thought. In my tight back yard I could not maneuver it without the Trax trailer dolly. I like the Chinese diesel heater - I installed it for winter use when solar production is lower - I have videos on the diesel heater install and the dolly. What supplemental heat did you use for the floor when not using the heat pump?

    • @johntatman9168
      @johntatman9168 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@coachgym I used the electric wire panels that run on 120v. If you get the floor warm while the sun is shinning it stays warm all night on 55-60 Degree setting and does not use much power. Now I do have the floor insulated with 2" foam boards with the refelctive side towards the inside of the trailer. Rather than use a diesel heater I opted to bring a portable generator if were going into severe cold weather that way I could also charge the batteries if needed.

    • @coachgym

      Great suggestion! Caroline, this is one of the next iMovies I plan to make. the Solar really needs to be done or at least very well planned before anything above the floor. It was the very next thing I worked on after installing the tanks - hopefully you will review that video. The fastening system for the panels, I thought, really needed to fasten through the structural members of the top of the trailer. Using the exceptional Dicor 501LSW-1 self leveling lap sealant after placing the Dicor BT-1834-1 Butyl Seal Tape between all the Unistrut and the roof of the trailer is the key. I'll try to get that done in the next week or two. Thanks again for watching.
