just to clear things up, One Piece isn't split into seasons, it is one continuous string of episodes (one episode a week nonstop for 25 years). However the series can be split into many story arcs - huge storylines, which span dozens or even hundreds of episodes and involve many characters and events. Sometimes each storyline takes so long that multiple of these opening themes can be used throughout them (which is why some characters or locations appear in multiple openings in a row).
In general, most of the story involves the main cast travelling between islands and meeting people, growing stronger and uncovering mysteries about the history of their world, which will eventually lead them to their goal: the treasure known as One Piece.

One Piece isn't really well known for the fight scenes compared to other 'action' anime. Don't get me wrong, it has good fight scenes but what elevates the series is the great epic story itself and the reasons why they 'fight'. Despite the goofy art style, it handles dark and deeper themes very nicely.

Even that aspect , that was only at first . In the early years even a few serious fight got resolved through gags or just being smart . However at a certain point , fight and battles did become epic and well animated . Sure it won't often be held in the same convos about fight scenes than recent popular stuff like AOT , Demon Slayer or JJK , but some key battle still manage to sneak into those

"The music is like full on proper artistry, it's not just like an intro to a series or something, it's proper songs proper music from proper bands by the sounds of it."
Yeah that's accurate. While many anime opening songs are made _for_ a series, they are still made as proper pieces of music in their own right. While an anime series might only use a roughly 1 minute 30 seconds part of the songs for its intro, they are practically always _made_ as full-length songs the band can put on an album next to the rest of their work.
The studios understand the value of good music.
Much of the music can stand entirely on its own too, there are a good number of songs I've heard as just a standalone song, and only later found out were used as an opening (or ending) for an anime. Like, I don't give a shit about Domestic Girlfriend, but _Kawaki wo ameku_ by Minami is still an absolutely wonderful song.

More people starting the One Piece journey is always welcome . The show does not run by seasons ... it's mostly done with successive arcs and saga . Those can be quite short or quite long , so they never really fit the seasonal mold . You might have noticed it a bit at this end , but even an arc can be long enough to feature multiple openings covering it . Anyway as a rule of thumb don't listen to opinions about pacing or quality of the arcs , just discover it as you want . Some filler arcs you might wanna skip , but even then i'd advise getting a feel for those at first .

Lee. There's a special opening for the 1000 episode, wich is a redo of the first one.
One Piece doesn't have seasons. It's going non stop since 1999 (the anime). It's divided by arcs. Some arcs have only one opening. As the arcs got longer they had more openings.
People will tell to do "one pace" or something - wich is and edited version to "save time" and cutting the fillers out. Honestly I don't think it's necessary. One Piece has a rate of 10% fillers. Naruto is almost half of it fillers....
    Episode 1 - Romance Dawn.
Can't wait to have you aboard!

    • @ZarathosDaimaoh
      @ZarathosDaimaoh 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Yeah One Piece got like 98 fillers eps total . Still the regular episodes aren't filler free , in that sense that they did extend scenes longer and added repetitive flashbacks , recaps and some original and created moments through canon episodes , to pad it . Still not comparable imo to mediocre original fillers like in other shows . Some of the added stuff are decent bonding moments or expand nicely on the lore and world . One Pace is a bad idea anyway for a first time viewing imo

One Piece is what they call a Weekly anime - that means it doesn't run by seasons, but comes out every week (bar breaks for holidays). So the 15th anniversary title means it has been running from week to week for 15 years. Currently it's in its 25th year of running week to week! Instead of being cut into parts by season, it's done by arcs - but the story is all one long journey on the road to finding the One Piece.
A few other facts about its popularity - It recently (last year) took #2 in the most sold comic books of all time - just after Superman. Yes, it overtook both Batman and Spiderman, despite running less than half the time of them AND being written by one person, telling only the one story all this time.
Last year a Live Action version of the first 100 chapters was released to resounding success - which was considered impossible by many since other 'more fitting' anime live actions failed spectacularly in doing the same thing. (I say considered impossible because the world of One Piece is not Earth and is incredibly ridiculous at times, so very few thought it would be able to be accurately done decently in 'real life').
One Piece is part of the Big Three - three manga that held the top spots of anime and manga sales in Japan for about a decade. Of the three (Naruto and Bleach being the other two), One Piece is still in the top positions and still ongoing - doing so strongly despite its age. During their run as the Big Three, the other two never knocked One Piece from the top position. It's incredibly beloved in Japan and world over.
Unfortunately One Piece met the West badly due to a company called 4kids getting rights to the dub in the 90s/00s. They butchered the anime and half-assed a lot of it, rewriting whole arcs and wrecking the backstories of characters. In a story like One Piece, where a lot of interconnections between the world can only be seen later in the series, to have someone uncaringly rip up the carefully placed foreshadowing was... not great. There are people even now who think that certain arcs are filler because of 4Kids cutting them out completely, despite them being integral arcs to the main plot and character development of some of the main characters. Thus why it was relatively unknown in comparison to Bleach, Naruto and Yugioh. Thankfully, it's seen a ressurgence as you can't keep a great story down.

    • @falco05

And thats just dumb, they wanted to make everything ultra Kid Friendly, while one piece wasnt even advertised to children speciffically, but even so it was well watchable for children, me included who was able to see the uncensored version as like a 8yr old.

    • @bethanybrookes8479
      @bethanybrookes8479 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

@falco05 yeah the 4kids thing was really weird. I'm pretty sure one piece is written with 15yos in mind (oda has said he is writing what he personally would have loved to see in a manga at 15), but is perfectly fine for 12 and up, and maybe alright for younger still depending on the child (still alright to watch for the most part, but some of it might go over a younger kid's head, and some younger kids would get a little disturbed by the violence. Idk what the American equivalent is, but its probably like a 12A age rating in the UK. Which is, anyone over 12 can watch without parental supervision in the cinema, and under 12 can go in and watch aswell as long as they have their guardian with them.
(And funnily enough, 12A is the rating Film Red got when it was released in UK cinemas)
But, like, some of the changes 4kids made are so frustrating. How was little garden gonna upset kids? It literally has giants and dinosaurs, it's a little kids dream! And as for all the riceball erasure, kids that don't know what rice balls are aren't dumb, they can quite easily work out that it's a ball of rice, and if they didn't know it was a real food, they would at least be able to just go "oh, in that world the eat balls of rice. And balls of rice are supposed to be salty, not sweet." Kids aren't stupid. Plus the alcahol erasure is a little dumb since most kids do in fact know that alcahol exists and grownups, like what these characters are, drink alcahol (also, luffy doesn't drink alcahol in the actual manga anyway, and neither does usopp, nor Chopper. They're the only ones below 18, the rest are adults. Plus the ages aren't necessarily clearly stated, it would have been easy enough to fudge the only explicitly stated age aswell, just say that nami either was 11 when arlong came or she spent 13 years running around for him instead. That would stick her explicitly as above drinking age in America. (I know zoro and sanji are both 19, but it's never really stated in the anime, that's SBS exclusive knowlage)

    RE: Red Line/Grand Line
The world is split into four parts - (X) - a bit like that. One line around the planet (think like a belt) is the Red Line - a large line of land that wraps itself around the whole world. The other line is the Grand Line - an ocean that intersects the Red Line at two points, creating two halves of the Grand Line. Each of the four quadrants of the world are made up of oceans called the Four Blues - North, South, East and West. The world doesn't have continents (bar the Red Line) - every other land mass are islands scattered all through the Blues and through the Grand Line. Pirates travel from island to island in search of the One Piece - the grand treasure that Gold Roger left behind (and Oda, the writer, has confirmed it's actually treasure, not 'the friends we met along the way').
The thing is, the Grand Line is special and that's where most people think the One Piece has been hidden, so strong pirates make their way there. Luffy - the main character- and his crew is one of those searching for the treasure and thus, they start in one of the Blues and make their way to the Grand Line. That's the very basic premise of the show, but there's so, so, SO much more.

Really a lot of ‘bad guys’ in the series are also good guys. Technically speaking the main cast are villains simply by being pirates even though they are probably the best pirates out there.
Since your a pirate, you have marines, government, celestials, other pirates, citizens against you. Some main antagonist of the show last a few seasons others can go by quick. Every pirate has the goal to get one piece just different philosophies to get there. Some with inhumane ways which are very f-d up.

Number 1. If you're gonna watch OP, WATCH THE SUBTITLED VERSION. The Japanese voice actors convey the emotions and deliver iconic performances that are just as important as the rest of the story/characters/animation/etc. Number 2. One Piece is one of the greatest stories ever told, experience-wise. It connects to your heart from so many different angles. Once you think you can handle being emotional during one part, another detail/story/revelation smacks you from where you least expect it. Sure, the characters may look weird at first, but it's only to reenforce the theme of freedom and endless possibilities. Eventually, you'll be invested in even the most odd-looking characters once you get to know all of them (and believe me... there are A LOT of them). The first couple of arcs do show their age slightly, but you'll get past it once the stories and lore start to help carry the story forward. There is some filler... not Naruto levels of filler by a long shot. But, I would suggest watching everything due to lore and other fun details that are sprinkled amongst every episode. You will come to find that One Piece also boasts one of, if not THE BEST world-building in anime. So many details are embedded into this complex world, from politics, to social class, geography, geological phenomenon, history, communications, morality and other aspects. If you have a question about the world, chances are that Oda (the author) has answered it in his SBS sections where he answers fan questions. OP is an investment in time, but the dividend is huge and will stick with you in your life. Oda has woven this story from thousands of references to pop culture and history. You'll see characters or environments that will trigger a "That looks like so and so or this one place or this one story or myth," and the way he portrays it is masterful. I'm jealous because you have yet to discover and experience so much for the first time! I'm already excited for you! Welcome to the fandom!!!

About the Grandline and Redline , i'll try to explain without spoilers , since the show obviously goes over it anyway .
To start with, the one piece world doesn't have real continents like we do. Its an ocean world made up of many islands all over. The one continent that exists is the Red Line. Its a thick strip of land that wraps around the one piece world, vertically , basically the equator made bigger.
The Grand Line is like another strip, another line, not a strip of land like the Red Line. Its all ocean, with special properties and numerous danger , that goes around the whole globe and is perpendicular to the red line. This means it cuts the world into quarters , four main seas . The Grand Line is mostly known for being full of dangers like sea monsters , untold mysteries , pirates fleets and territories and having a lot of different islands with crazy weather patterns.

In this would the some characters have powers because you of fruits that give you powers called “Devil Fruits”. These fruits are extremely rare to find within that world and it’s not necessary to eat the whole fruit, just one bite is enough to gain the power. It’s also said the all the fruits have a horrible flavor.
Devil fruits are separated into 3 types.
Paramecia: These give the user the ability to manipulate things around them and themselves. For example a certain fruit can let the user become rubber like the main character, a different fruit can let the user change their age and the user can touch another person no change their age, another fruit can let you create earthquakes too.
Logia- This type of fruits give the user the ability to manipulate anything elemental. Depending on the fruit you can manipulate and become fire, air, ice, lava, lightning, light, and any element you can think of.
Zoan- The last type of Devil Fruit gives the user the ability to become any animal depending of the fruit. You will also gain their strength or ability. Even within this type of Devil Fruit there are mythical Zoan fruits. Think of a dragon, or phoenix.

To answer questions I don't consider to be spoilers. One Piece is the name of the treasure they are after. It is thought to be somewhere in the Grand Line. The world One PIece takes place on has only one continent and tons of islands. The continent is a large mostly inhospitable mountain range which circles the entire globe and is called the Red Line. The Grand Line intersects the red line and also circles the globe, it is a treacherous sea current that can't be traversed by normal means. These two lines divide the globe into four seas named for the four cardinal directions. Our adventure starts in the East Blue.
Regarding whether they are good guys or bad guys I'd say they are very good guys in a morally complex world where every organization or faction has both good and bad people within it similar to real life. Luffy doesn't consider himself to be a hero though because according to him a hero is the type of person who will share meat with everyone but he wants all the meat. He is one of the most selfish main characters in anime but that doesn't stop him from constantly helping others.
We start the story with just Luffy and accumulate the crew over time. Do your best to forget the crewmates as some of them are intended to be a surprise. XD
Since they are traveling the world in search of One Piece every story arc takes place in a different location. This consequently means different villains and allies. Though the world keeps on moving outside of the crew's view so tons of characters eventually show up again.

    ehem so
To put it simply, One Piece is an anime about pirates
like 20+ yrs ago a guy called Gold Roger hid his treasures in a place. It was a huge treasure because Roger was the pirate king.
When he got executed a guy asked him where his treasures were and he answered that he hid them " in that place". that led to the birth of "The Great Pirate Era" where almost everyone went out on the sea to find that treasure.
Luffy was a boy living his as normal as can be life when he met a pirate named Shanks. They bonded and all and Lu decided that he was going to find himself the best crew and that treasure and become the pirate king himself.
    That for the plot
The first power in one piece we get introduced to is the Devil Fruit, which is a fruit that gives the eater powers but the become unable to swim like at all. Luffy -Lu- ate his when he was a child which is the rubber fruit, his body is made outta rubber.
there can never be two users to the same fruit at the same time.
About the seasons there is actually no seasons. There is arcs where let's say the adventures of every island has it's own arcs.
for example : they visit Alabasta, it's Alabasta arc
They still in East Blue, it's East Blue arc
not sure about how is it considered the beginning or end of an arc but this is for the best of my info ig
One piece has been an ongoing series since 1999 till this day. Every arc or every handful of episodes there will be a new opening. It is at ep 1090 I think and still is ongoing, they entered the final saga though.
I think this is about it
I tried my best not to spoil anything but believe that the story is waaaaaaaaaaaay deeper and longer and the foreshadowing is epic and Oda is a damn genius.
aaaand if there is any questions feel free to ask :)

As of now, One Piece has been around for 28 years now so I understand that bit of confusion when it said 15th anniversary for the 17th opening and that's pretty big when you've been watching this show since childhood basically.

  • @Adamski-
    @Adamski- 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

You should know that One Piece has one of the BIGGEST worlds in all of anime & manga. The story is basically about is Luffy trying to find the One Piece, a treasure hidden away by the Pirate king (the guy who has the big swirly mustache in the openings). On the quest he meets new crew members, allies and MANY foes who have the same goal as him or he just dislikes that person and will kick their ass lol..
So he has to defeat many bad guys as they travel island to island to gather information about how to travel onwards. But the best & biggest part about one piece is usually the conflicts that happen on the actual islands, as they're very deep, have many layers to them and are VERY engaging. They're rarely on the sea in the show even though they're pirates.

To answer some if your questions without spoiling: the Red Line and Grand Line are places where the entirety of the plot revolves around. Think of them as a starting and finish line.

In regards to the trend of the 2 fists clashing.
I think it's symoblises the uphill battle. In Japanese they read right to left. Which means the good guy going from right under to top left, is the same as going from left under to right top. For western people going from left to right means "forwards" and up means "better or upwards"
So the hero is going up and forwards but the bad guy is trying to obstruct going backwards and downwards by punching down.

  • @NotePortal
    @NotePortal 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

You were asking about one piece's power system so here is a brief description (Mild spoiler warning)
    - Devil Fruits
Devil fruits are fruits that are rarely found across the one piece universe than can give random powers to the user, the power gained is different for every fruit. And there is also only 1 type of fruit at once. When someone eats a devil fruit they get these powers but in return can not touch water anymore (seawater only). Devil fruits are categorized in 3 categories: Zoan, Paramythia and Logia.
    - Haki
Haki is also a power system used in one piece that basically everyone has affinity for but only some can effectively use. Its a form of intuition and there are 2 types: Arnament (Buso-shoku) haki and Observation (Kenbun-shoku) haki.

Anime actually has quite a few roots in ancient Chinese literature, and especially shounen anime (the genre that one piece is in, along with a few other famous examples like dragon ball) have routes in Journey to the west. Mainly, you can see it in how ridiculously over the top Sun Wukong is, along with his personality. Echoes of that show themselves on so many main characters from this type of series, tho some are more obvious than others. Also in the style of story telling. Journey to the West is pretty episodic in how its written, with the overarching plot, and then the little adventures along the way (a little bit like the iliad and the odessey and their impact on modern Western media funnily enough, like those two stories, journey to the west is also written in quite a poetic format).
But anyway, Wukong is a dramatic little shit with over the top powers and it has had a profound impact on anime to this day. The Monkey King was just so charismatic that he charmed writers centuries into the future into wanting to put parts of his character into their own characters.
You might actually be somewhat familiar with the story, there was a Japanese live action TV adaptation of the story in the 70s or 80s that got translated and dubbed by the BBC (with questionable levels of quality, but well, its still charming in its own way) and aired it as Monkey, and its commonly known as Monkey Magic. Idk about you, but my parents used to watch it when they were kids, and then they showed some of it to me when I was about 8.

Well, for the planet that One Piece takes place on, the Red Line is a continent that rings ALL the way around like a Prime Meridian, while the Grand Line is a stretch of ocean perpendicular to the Red Line, like a sort of equator. Pirates head for the Grand Line because it is believed that the treasure known as the One Piece can be found in there somewhere.

while the Anime starts slow and seems very happy-go-lucky and simple, it builds over time, like a Skyscraper. and while you'll start off by just laughing, you'll feel all the emotions as you watch it. i know that it is a huge Anime and equally a huge task to watch it all the way to the end, but you'll find that feeling pass by over time, to where you just want to keep watching and see what happens next.
also, yes there is quite a bit of fighting in it, but there's Adventure, Comedy and Drama as well. just do be very careful with social media, as the closer we draw to the One Piece, there will be people out to spoil events, including what the One Piece is. which we dunno, Oda has simply stated that the One Piece is something tangable, it is not "the friends we made along the way" or some other silly cliche.
before i go i wanted to share that yes, Brook's design is inspired Slash and Jimi Hendrix, two legendary guitarists of their era.

One piece might be intimidating to start cause of the massive length, but once you start going (and especially after alabasta/skypea, which is the point where some people leave) you get pretty much hooked till the end of it, and after experiencing some of the best arcs you start realizing just how incredible this story actually is; for us that have seen all of it (series is still going obviously) it's hard not to consider it the very best anime out there. To me, it is actually the best story ever told, anime or not. Fights are cool and all, and the animation might be hit or miss (especially at the start), but story-wise there isn't anything like it, the world and character building in this series is just unmatched.

Do they have a bad guy each season ? Well, technically yes, but they are built up for a long time and we usually know who they are and what their purpose is. I recommend watching the original version, it has its prolongued scenes, but it isnt that bad imo, and the story is so worth getting into. Yes, it might take you a long time to catch up, but don`t worry, it will be worth every second. Don`t worry about catching up, live in the moment, cuz every episode and arc has its amazing moments.
The only thing that sucks about One Piece is catching up and becoming a weekly watcher :(.

One Piece is like it manga, release new episode every week and it now going for like 25 year, One Piece might not the most known anime in the world, but it actually the most successful shonen genre anime ever, base on it consistency as top anime and manga. Even after running over 20 year, One Piece still among top 5 best selling manga every year, it anime is among top anime, and it also getting a very successful live action series. One Piece episode not collected in season, bit instead it separated by arc or saga, some arc can be less than 50 episode, and some more than 180 episode. One Piece had a world that as vast and very detailed like tolkien the lord of the ring, and it actually base on only one person imagination and he not just randomly put things together, he actually study culture, history, geography, theory, architecture of this world to put in his idea. Even the character is base on many famous individuals, like michael jackson, steve buscemi, eminem, daft punk, jim carrey, legendary japan actor, historical figure, freedom fighter, the actual pirate, mafia boss, king and many more. Oda really create a world that completely opposite of the actual world, he is master of fantasy.

You won't percisely understand what's going on in the show by looking at the lyrics because they usually tell us about chasing the dream, travelling and the other general stuff and not exactly what's happening, also the visuals of the opening usually just show the characters and their powers, and other scenes are not really "canon" for example in opening "Hands up" the main character and his crew were fighting some guys but it was just to show what they can do and the fight didn't happen in the show (sorry for so much text)

One Piece doesn't have a lot of fillers(Naruto had an excessive amount of fillers), but it still has some. You can skip them if you want, or watch them. Just know they are not canon. It's just the anime production crew trying not to catch up to the weekly manga(the one and only story source that the anime is following).
And One Piece is what they are trying to find; *the greatest treasure in the world hidden somewhere in the Grand Line*. said by a past pirate now known as the Pirate King when he was publicly executed.
(This is not spoilers btw, it's in the intro of the first openings)
The main character as you know is Luffy, but because of the straw hat he is wearing he is also known as just "Straw Hat" or "Straw Hat Luffy". He is the captain of his crew, which is known as the "Straw Hat Pirates".
One Piece is a great adventure story with a lot of heart and a lot of depth. The fight scenes are just a part of the story telling and not at all the main attraction to One Piece.
