  • In this episode, join Oliver and I as we set out on a 6 day- 180 mile solo float trip on Michigan's Big Manistee River. This was a challenging, yet rewarding experience, as we traveled from the city of Grayling to Manistee, MI by canoe. Between camping, cooking, canoeing and fishing, this was an action packed adventure with beautiful scenery and wildlife along the way.
Thanks for watching and supporting this channel! I'm looking forward to a great summer filled with new adventures to share with you. I wish you the best on your endeavors!

I'm originally from Munising> I go back up north for a few weeks every fall, but now I live in Florida. I'm 80 and have been trying to get my wife to move back for 30 years. If you are an adventure-loving Michigander don't fall for the "Winters are too cold B.S" It's not a wise trade-off for 100-degree summers with 100% humidity and storms that blow your house away.
I love the Lake Superior surf fishing videos. I'm an avid fisherman and I don't recall anyone fishing from Superior's shore other than myself 40 years ago. Manistee is my second choice for a place to live and play in Michigan. That area is possibly the best place to raise a family and build a life in Michigan. I'd love to see a complete float of the Escanaba or the Tahquamenon rivers. They both traverse through some beautiful country and are excellent fishing. Your enthusiasm and practical bush knowledge are informative, infectious, and light-hearted, however; I can't watch your videos before meals. I tend to take your enthusiasm to the table. Thanks for the seat in the canoe and by the fireside.

Absolutely love the videos man, I used to sea kayak guide and one thing I've noticed in your paddling videos is your paddle is upside down a lot of the time! The "short" edge or the "curved" edge goes on bottom (in your case the edge with the notch), this will dramatically help with longevity and provide deeper/more powerful strokes. This could very well be the reason your forearm was hurting as asymmetrical paddles are designed to move through water a specific way. Keep up the great work!

13:51 I think I know that spot. Michigan used to maintain a series of campgrounds on the main rivers for paddlers. Most of them are abandoned now. It's a shame they don't promote paddling anymore. It's still OK to camp there, but there's no amenities like wells, fire rings, or outhouses. Downstream, there used to be a Federal campground. No more.
40:57 Probably trumpeter swans, an uncommon sight in Michigan, removed from the endangered species list just a year ago.

Great video. I love camping and I work time. Before summer is over, I will go camping.
