South Africa's former president Nelson Mandela took tea with Britain's Queen at Buckingham Palace on Wednesday during a brief trip to London.
81-year-old Mandela, earlier met with Prime Minister Tony Blair and was made an Honorary Queen's Councillor at the House of Lords.
The former South African leader and the Queen last met in South Africa during last November's Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Durban.
At the Downing Street talks, Blair announced an extra £100,000 (160-thousand U-S dollars) in aid to help resolve the conflict in war-torn Burundi, where Mr Mandela is trying to broker the peace process.
Blair met Mandela for nearly an hour and discussed not only Burundi but also Britain's policy on the crisis in Zimbabwe.
Mandela was said to support Britain's approach and promised that his successor, Thabo Mbeki, would play a key role in private discussions with the government of Zimbabwe.
The British Prime Minister also thanked Mandela for his help in bringing the two Lockerbie bombing suspects to trial, as their trial got underway in the Netherlands.
Mandela excerted his influence with Libya's leader Moammar Gadhafi to get the suspects brought to trial.
Honorary Queen's Councillors are traditionally academic lawyers rewarded in recognition of their work.
The appointment of Mandela, who is a qualified lawyer, was a special tribute to his efforts in bringing reconciliation and hope to (m) millions of people throughout Africa and the world.
Mandela is due to fly home on Wednesday evening.

I loved d way Mr. Mandela just casually walked in like a boss that he was, visiting his long lost childhood best friend. I havent seen Queen elizabeth received anyone with this much warmth and genuine liking as she did to this esteemed gentleman.
Hi
He was from an agnatic noble family.
@@mantabond only in your wet dreams was mandela from noble family
@@bonjovi7120 you must not know Mandela’s bloodline if you don’t know he was from Royalty....you should read more
@@mnqobimasinga7 i suppose you were also born into royalty🤣🤣🤣
I love how she just walks towards him while he’s not even fully in the room. Such a warm and loving spirit happy to see a friend
According to folklore whilst she signed her letters to him 'Dear Nelson' he in turn addressed his to her with 'Dear Elizabeth'.
Love the way he walked in and said your majesty, how are you 😁
If I am honest, I couldn’t even understand the words he was saying 😟😔
@@PHILIPP43994 I’m gonna assume you’re either British or American because they’re the ones always having difficulties understanding other accent.
@@ahmedladan6967 im neither buh i didn’t get it
@@ahmedladan6967 did he said Elizabeth
@@bonsoirnon7966 no he didn’t. The very first words he said was “Your Majesty, How are you” and also said when she said have you been having a rather busy time he said busy he says “not as busy as you are, you know your Majesty is very busy”
What a voice! What a smile! What a man!
What a sellout Blaq misleader
@@zisilemoyi3203 can you tell us what did he sellout? Waiting for your reply!
6 wonderful months waiting for u to tell us what he sold out
@@Stirlingshirecastle Good question. I am South African who admires Madiba. He fought for our freedom and promoted reconciliation in our country..
@@zisilemoyi3203 this fucker is probably one of those crazy eff supporters
Wow Nelson Mandela is such a strong presence and full of integrity
RIP Mandala.
I'm not British. I'm not even a fan of monarchies in general. Yet, every time I see Queen Elizabeth, I instantly become happy. I don't know why. Odd.
The magic side of the crown, i guess ?
Her alive goddess stature
Me too. In my case, she reminds me so much of my beloved grandma who passed away.
she has that efect on all of us
There is something about her
I had never seen the queen be so happy and excited to meet someone! Rest in peace💜
Mandela lights up a room. He's so energetic and positive!
They were best of pals. The only person to call her by her first name and she was comfortable with it.
Tell Meghan oprah and Gayle that , I wonder if you'd be believed
She was supporting with her government the south african apartheid regime. Stop the bs
@@mohamedfahad2364 she was against apartheid and wanted the UK government to impose sanctions on South Africa but they refused.
@@mohamedfahad2364 you’re talking out your arse. She was dancing when his freedom was announced watch the video you scumbag
@@mohamedfahad2364 - you can’t wake up the unwakable
For me, Nelson Mandela is the greatest civil rights leader of them all. Mandela spent 27 years in prison for standing up for his people, was freed from prison, and then became the President of the very Nation he was imprisoned for. Now, that's incredible!
Vincent ? ??🤨
I used the adio instead of typing and didn't read carefully. My bad.
As we say in Britain, he was a thoroughly good egg!
Prince Phillip meeting his match in big, bold, commanding personality.
Queen always looks like she's both excited to see someone and can't wait for that person to leave
Wow, what an observation! ❤
Totally confused with your comment man🙄🙄🙄
When you thought Prince Philip is tall, Mandela is even taller than him
It’s a shame we won’t get too see him again May His Royal Highness rest with pride and peace.

Two great people. My respect to both of them
Three .... 🌹
Wow, she really is an amazing woman. To think about all the historic leaders the Queen has met and how long she has been on the throne and everything she has lived through.
rip
Nelson Mandela is a great man and the UK Royal Family showed their respect to him when he passed. I admire them for that.
I still remember ..1997 ..it was a school rally and we got to meet him and he had something encouraging to say to every child that shook his hand ..he said to me " my girl, keep shining, no matter what" ... amazingly Michael Jackson was in South Africa on his History your ...two greats at the same time the same place ...
Rest in peace Nelson
NOT IN PEACE
SORRY HE IS BURNING IN HELL
HE BURNT HUMANS ALIVE WITH PETROL AND MATCHES .TO DESTROY A BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY SOUTH AFRICA
LIKE CANCER IT HAS EFFECT THE WORLD. CALLED RACIST
👺👹👺
RIP all of them 🥺🥺🥺
Oh Madiba, how we miss you!!! I loved looking at this. The Queen was very fond of Madiba.
Hi Annelize hope you are having a good day so far?
Hi annelize how you doing today?
Nelson Mandela is in high spirits to see the queen 👸 and Prince Philip too bless him
You're stupid!! Racist idiot
Rip to them all,great people.
Hi
Three legends. 🌹🌹🌹
Mandela's demeanor can easily confuse viewers whether this was shot in his palace or her's!! What an enigmatic personality he was! 😊😊😊
Sounded like he was welcoming them. 😊
She's always young & strong she'll outlive us all😥😥😥😭😭😭
Um...
I love how Madiba walks in and says "Your Majesty". Like it's her nickname or something, like half cheeky almost. And then he proceeds to call Prince Philip 'Phil'. Lol. It is so like Madiba to have done that. Ahh I miss my grandpa to the nation. Such a friendly charismatic soul.
Hi
She would shake hands with him even without gloves. Thats a huge sign of respect.
I am an African but love the queen. Long live the queen of the British empire!
just curious are you black
@@eliasmetsing8397 yes I am Black.

They r all death
Same here. It disheartens me to see those comments in the recent sabc video about this.
Wow this man really had authority in his voice..
Bro nothing is the same without him we need him most at this time
Absolutely agree.
Same here.
They got on well He called her Elizabeth [yes really] He was quite a Man RIP
he said "Your Majesty"
A meeting of three greats people on earth
Anyone who calls the monarch racist should watch this.
Think of the mornachy as an institution and not just an individual. The queen could very well be a jolly good person and yet the institution can still be racist.
I love how happy the 2 were to see each other
lucky to born in Nelson Mandela era.people like him born once in a century
Two amazing statespersons
Unparalleled. Humbling.😘what a wonderful picture.
One word Beautiful
Woow,, so humble.
Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip the way they look at each other 😍😍❤️
Neither my parents, nor my grandparents had great marriages. I am always fascinated by this long lasting love stories. 💖
I like the Queen so much and her wonderful caring husband and nelson Mandela. South African's ex president.
So this was the real nelson mandela, i always imagine morgan freeman face
You Hollywood guiphpiuie
Me too!!
The Queen adored Mandela, she was in awe of him. The only person outside her family who referred to her as Elizabeth.
Love this ❤
Im not British but... GOD SAVE THE QUEEN
I have no words to describe Mandela. Sent to decades in prison by the racist imperialists who were running a government in this woman’s name. And he comes and greets her with such warmth and affection. Future generations will scarce believe such a man existed.
Mandela obviously saw her differently than you
@@leannesmith5818 👍
Actually when Mandela was imprisoned South Africa had become a republic
Err, South Africa was a republic by then and was kicked out of the commonwealth over Apartheid.
Apartheid was the brainchild of Afrikaners who were of Dutch heritage - not British.
The Queen did a great deal to help bring down apartheid
RIP Mr. Mandela and RIP Prince Philip 🙏
Hi
Omg the Queen and Philip are just adorable they absolutely adored Nelson Mandela.
Legend never die
What a man What a legend rip sir you made the world a better place along with jfk mlk rfk
My hero meets my hero
RIP all of them. How tragically sad. Does anyone know what he asked for, I can’t quite make it out and subtitles aren’t working?
He was asking if his aides/entourage could have their picture taken with him and the Queen. The Queen thought his aides were following behind him, but then he said they were not (outside). Then the Queen agreed to have the picture taken after her one-on-one meeting with Madiba.
Bien mi reina que recibió 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
You'd swear he's the one who is king in here and the other's are below his status.
They were below his status ... History was on his side and they knew it.
He is a King
Great meeting.
I've never seen the queen move forward like that to meet somebody.
Royal Queen 🌟👑🎊
What a lovely man
Her majesty looks comfortable, without the bag, less formal
Un gran hombre, que fue Nelson Mandela.
Uno de los llamados seres humanos que encarnó realmente el sentido de esa palabra.
Thank you 🙏 for your unsurprising support - Your Highness.
God save the Queen 👑
He respected her enormously and yet it was she who sentenced him to life in prison in 1963
Only a legend like Mandela could get away with reaching out his hand first, starting the conversation, avoiding any bow, and (innocently) flirting with the Queen of England ... in front of her husband! 😂👌🏽
Gracious lady Her Majesty.
It's amazing how much he looks like Barack O'Bummer.
Nelson si era una eminencia política y real, gracias sudáfrica por tan maravilloso ser.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤thx ourGod accept star efisay ❤❤❤
And they say she’s racist now? They clearly haven’t watched TH-cam
They forget that the Queen and Thatcher didn't get along so well because of their positions on apartheid. And that the first thing the queen did when Mandela was president was visit him and congratulate him.
Wonderful ❤️
May they both rest in peace 🕊️🇿🇦❤️
لم ينحن للملكة 👍👌🌹
I see The duke is well behaved meeting with the Man...🙂🙂🙂🙂
Wow, Dr. Nelson Mandela was taller than The Duke Of Edinburgh (who, by the way, is a very tall man). You really have to wonder why most media sites want us to believe that he was 6'0. Clearly, the man was not one inch under 6'4!!!
Clown
the man who fought for his whole life against white supremacy gained respect from them....
Nah not really
The Queen was a strong Christain. The self sacrfice Nelson Mandela did would have meant alot to her as reminded her of Jesus.
He talks like a boss!
Both are former rulers of South Africa.
Usually it's Presidents respecting the Queen, this time it was the Queen respecting Madiba.
Madiba should have grabbed the treasures stolen from South Africa and made a run for it lol
RIP all 3.
I heard something about her not visiting south Africa while he was still in jail at some point
Who told you that? Your dad after he came drunk home one night?😂
والله احبها اليزابيث مو بيدي...صح هو حلم مستحيل يتحقق انو احضى بلقاءها
the father of our nation.
❤❤❤❤👍
The queen and madela were good friends.
All late now. Life is all vanity....
Mandela’s voice and Obama’s 👴
Sad that only 1 of these 3 is left. :(
Now none are left :(
Yeh...
She headed a government which sat back and was utterly complacent in failing to implement sanctions on a racist south African regime for over 3 decades.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
RESPEKT
I'm from the republic of Ireland and ardent monarchist and royalist maybe because the family tree goes back to Irish high king 👑 Brian boru who is linked to the English monarch
Mandela Africa misses you and France Afrique networks are the reason for your long imprisonment when you visited Algeria, and France Afrique networks wanted to silence your voice, but you were generous and a man of reconciliation and peace and you surpassed them because the man of high values, Mandela Africa misses you.
Title should be the Queen meets Nelson Mandela
I wonder what they're discussing from 0:26????
parking i bet. she's asking him where they park.
Samsung lol
I wonder what their discussions will be in the afterlife
0:23.. I full on thought he was gong to ask to use the toilet
Lol
Mr. Mandela feels at home at the Buckingham Palace while the queen and Prince Phillip act like ushers.
I guess we did not watch the same video
Both are south African leaders
It’s actually interesting and funny 😂
RIP
Za wolność swojego narodu Mandela został uwięziony na 26 lat.
Walczył także z apartheidem.
Wybitny wpjownik i prezydent RPA.
RPA była kolonią Angielską.
Mandela gdy siedział w angielskim więzieniu w RPA to królowa angielska Elżbieta 2 nie odwiedzała jego i nie starała się o wypuszczenie Mandeli z więzienia.
