All this pressure and hype on a very talented and young kid took a toll on him in the Red River Rivalry game against #1 Texas today. Hopefully, good coaching can get him on track to succeed in the SEC and get into the College Football Playoffs with some valuable playing time experience. Personally, I'm rooting hard for him.
As an Oklahoma fan the kid's got potential went to a hostile environment made some big plays and pulled out a W but we still got plenty of football left to be played he is a freshman he will show flash but will make mistakes Just got to take it one game at a time.
Late in the Temple game, I saw Michael Hawkins Jr. break a run down the slide lines. As soon as I saw it... I was like who is that? I said to myself, that looks like Kyler Murray. I told my buddies about Oklahoma's backup quarterback and told them I couldn't wait to see this kid play. During the Tennessee game, I kept calling for OU to put him in. He did great with the time he had left against Tennessee. Against Auburn on the first play from scrimmage when he broke the long run against them he was QB1. Let's Go Michael Hawkins Jr. BEAT TEXAS!!! Take us Home.. Heisman, Statue, and Natty before you leave.. #BOOMER
It’s funny Arnold is a lot like Gabriel, he’ll throw the ball where he’s “supposed to”. Gabriel is told in practice “the defender is like this this guy will be open” and he chucks the ball down the field, but Hawkins reads the defense and you can see him taking the play taking it into his own hands and he makes the right decision as a freshman. Win or lose he’s qb 1
I'm not delusional, we are definitely still an underdog going into Red River. Literally our whole first line of WRs are out, and our O-Line-- while healthier this week-- isn't high level this year. That being said, I started off the season preparing to lose to Texas after going to see Arnold play live at the Alamo Bowl; he just didnt have enough poise in the pocket or the ability to keep his eyes downfield when he did go on the run. Not to mention his turnover rate. That being said, I've found a spark of optimism with Hawkins, especially after he got some confidence beating Auburn last week and had a bye week of QB1 reps. Our defense will have to keep up their high-level play and ridiculous turnover rate to keep us in the game, I feel, but it's definitely doable. Best of luck, Sooners and Sooner Nation! I'll be sweating along with y'all. 😂☝️🔴⚪️

It's like last year when everybody and I do mean everybody but me said OU was going to lose to Texas. I really do like OU chance of making it another memorable game despite being razor thin at WR. I can't wait for Saturday!! OU! OU! OU!
I think Michael Hawkins is a future Superstar quarterback. I'm actually not concerned with him at all... I'm concerned with the offensive line and wide receivers. If they can give him time... He will be dangerous
Sooner fans are an intelligent fan base. The ones that watched practice and spring games knew Caleb Williams was better than Spencer Rattler. This is the same scenario this year.
I honestly have Texas Longhorns beating the Sooners soundly. If the Sooners upsets #1Texas would hurt their playoff chances. Defense will make or break the game.
Here’s my piece. OU had “zero chance” last year and look what happened. They won. This year OU has “zero chance.” It’s a rivalry game. You throw th past 5 games out the window, records out the window, ranking out the window. For 3 hours it’s a straight battle 9/10 years of the rivalry. And people who don’t agree with that, don’t agree with facts.
It amazes me how people still think college players will give you the same product every week. The OU offense hit an all time low, its only going to get better. Doesn't mean they'll beat Texas, but there are a lot of winnable games left on OU's schedule.
Imo, ole miss, Mizzou, south carolina and even Texas are beatable. Our hardest games left are Alabama and LSU. It really depends on our offense. We need to figure something out, cause what we have isn't working. Seth litrell is garbage, so if he can get his head out of his a** and start making competent plays, we could do something.
His job isn't to "Save Oklahoma football this year." His job is to continue the elite QB play that Oklahoma is known for that Jackson Arnold was not providing and that Gabriel only showed in stints but wasn't consistent.
I get SICK of this by fans & videos as this. Hawkins is good, but the offensive line has been the trouble. We are going to lose a very good QB in Arnold, when he transfer to another SEC School. Then we will meet that team in the future . JA is a better passer, but with the OL & No receivers healthy he has not had the chance. Ths bull crap makes me be ashamed of Sooner fans. It will be used against OU in future recruiting.
You can only play 1 quarterback and Hawkins is playing better than Arnold. Does OU lose Arnold, most likely. Should it be worrying, no. Will it diminish recruiting, no. QB's aren't going to look at Arnold and say "wow, I shouldn't go play at Oklahoma because 1 QB wasn't good there". Thats asinine to think. If it starts happening with multiple QB's, then its understandable to think that.
What I find strange is that ppl hold the QB in a special category, if your a running back and fumble the ball a lot, you will sit. A lineman who keeps letting the defense through, a fast wide receiver but can’t catch, you sit until you learn. If JA is so sensitive that he quits because his feelings got hurt, you don’t really want that guy. This idea that you must stick with one QB and continue losing until either he gets it or the coach gets fired is ludicrous. Making excuses for the o line doesn’t compute either, Hawkins has the same line. One thing is sure, Hawkins is better than JA now. Making the whole team lose until JA can get better is selfish. If he quits, that’s on him. More than likely JA will get another chance this year, let’s hope the game slows down a bit for him and he competes for wins. Question, how many recruits change their minds if OU isn’t competitive in the SEC?
@@devon303 I want to win. And if he gets traded and wins a Super Bowl, you Justinsexuals and Caleb fanboys will regret that. Again Look up Eric Kramer's statement "the best QB is in the locker Room. Bagent can read defense and pass better than Fields or Caleb Williams.

I wasn’t surprised how well Michael Hawkins Jr took Jackson Arnold’s job. He is playing well, hoping for him to be successful this season.
I wish he would look like he cares just a little bit, he just scrambles for about 5 seconds then throws the ball away, its exhausting to watch
