    I'm really really good at the how not to color comics technique.

    ....it's scary how universal these mistakes are. I've done this...I've seen a lot of people do it too.

    Thanks! I'm not interested in comic book colouring /specifically/ but this is a good tip in general too. I'm used to seeing the same quick tips over and over that are kinda basic (eg don't shade with black, don't highlight with white), but this is one I've never heard of before. I can see the difference it makes though.

    I really enjoy your channel, so many people on TH-cam don’t seem to know what they’re talking about and are so general all their tips become repetitive and almost pointless. I really enjoy coming away from a video and feeling like I learned something

    I have to laugh as I was a "airbrush demonstrator" for the "Olypus airbrush" importer here in Australia. I did a couple of long demos (over an hour each) showing how to use masking and color applications using color wheels, and glazing techniques. Now it's the sound of my cooling fan on my tower, and adobe is my substrate. Such is life..lol

    Short sweet and to the point, thank you for this. I'm currently battling my habits with colouring and shading so this helped a lot. I never thought of smashing together various techniques for a better overall picture.
    Thanks for putting the time together to share these!

    When I first started coloring I'd did this all the time, now I use a 50% hardness brush. I also used to make my shadows a darker version of the color in already using, now I use a different color.

    • @iAmEchoFPS
      @iAmEchoFPS 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +K Michael Russell that should be the next, but I also feel like knowing anatomy is apart of coloring too. I always go for more of a painter effect.

    Thanks for this guide. I really need to keep that mantra in mind, mixing it up, because I tend to airbrush the heck out of everything I do. Really good tips in here!

    Would you be able to do a video on the charcoal style? I'm thinking like Greg Smallwood and Jordie Bellaire's work on the new Moon Knight series.

  • @ValisX
    @ValisX 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think it's an interesting note that the colorists the top artists in comics prefer (outside of laura Martin and Gracia) Hollingsworth, Dave Stewart even Jordie Bellaire now don't use any rendering at all. Or the rendering is so subtle its unnoticeable.

    • @ValisX
      @ValisX 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +K Michael Russell I have one issue of Tokyo Ghost, I had to go find it. Hollingsworth is doing no rendering whatsoever in this issue. The color is all flat. I was just looking at Cory Walker's latest Invicible issues that are colored by Nathan Fairbairn I think. Super simple flat color there too.
      I just had an issue colored by (a fairly respectable colorist) that was an overrendered mess in some places...the faces were overdone, shading counter to the lightsource(!)
      Ive been looking at the Michael Golden Jurassic Park (& Punisher) covers recently as a basis for color theory. He was sometimes using only 3 colors on those covers, 4 if you include white. I think those covers should be in the reference file for every colorist. There's some amazing problem solving that he does with the simplest solutions... without rendering anything
