Agree, entirely. But what makes it so well done, in my never to be humble opinion, is the way he doesn,t stare stupidly at her for long embarrassing moments, right there in front of her father, like a love stricken Jr. High boy with an IQ lower than his shoe size. Yet we still get the message.
I always thought of the love story between Rebecca and Ivanhoe an allegory for the tragedy of discrimination everywhere. Sir Walter Scott deserves to be as well known as ever - He also wrote 'The Talisman'

In the book, when Ivanhoe goes to pay his debts, Isaac spends a little time debating about the price until Rebecca tells him to be a little more generous. This movie changes that to make Isaac much more generous. A suit of armor was quite expensive back then!
In book Ivanhoe sends his servant to pay, and they discuss an till Isaac except 80... don't remember money... and then Rebecca gave the servant 100 when he left.
@@Adushka1976 Wamba was my favorite too. Gurth seems to get left out a lot. The 1950s movie also cut him out and combined his role with Wamba. The 90s miniseries does leave Gurth in, but kills him off later.
My only problem with this movie is him not ending with Rebecca... maybe it would have been too shocking at that time? They obviously feel very strongly for each others
it was Sir Brian de Bois-Guilbert who was truly in love with Rebecca and who proposed to her. He was willing to leave the order and throw away his titles to be with her. Ivanhoe does no such thing in the movie.

I want to see the whole movie. It is my favorite medieval book by the great Scottish writer Sir Walter Scott. I love all the characters Brian de Bois Gilbert, King Richard the Lionheart, Wamba the jester, Gurth the poker, the beautiful and different Rowena and Rebecca, Ivanhoe, Isaac the Jew, Robin de Loksley and the others. The battle between Normans and Saxons. My favorite character is The Templar, although he is "the villain" he is a character full of passion that I feel Ivanhoe lacked.

There is another 80's version of this movie that cannot be found......?????? Ivanhoe saves Isaac. Isaac says "not many Christians would help a poor Jew" ...... Ivanhoe says "I didn't know there ever was a poor Jew." Isaac tell him, as he covers up his money bags, we're not allowed to own lands or titles, or hold peasants under their charge....so????
Some of the worst costumes EVER. I mean, the whole thing is awful, and lit like a daytime soap of the same era, and clearly on a wispy budget, but sheesh.

Maybe, but it was beautifully acted. And the sets were not bad either.
I believe this was a tv movie. They tried to follow the book closely, and some of the costumes are based on Sir Walter Scott's descriptions.
I don't care....love is love, go for it
