When my dad was in the hospital before he died I was still scared of him too. Tubes in his nose and an IV in his arm and he could've still kicked my ass if he felt like it, there's just people like that in this world

I remember years ago my mother asked her uncle (born in the 1920s) who was raising six sons (in the city of Detroit) why he was so strict with them. In confidence, he revealed to her “These boys would walk all over me if they didn’t fear me. What they don’t know though is that my bark is worse than my bite.” He’s gone now but he was the favorite uncle to many (even those unrelated by blood) and all his kids (grandkids and great grandkids) loved and respected him tremendously.
