    Thanks for the video, but i have a trouble, when i want to create the jostick appears a message thay say "no properties in your selected layers are ready to be connected to a joystick" i dont know how to solve this. I would appreciate so much your help.

      Make sure to add keyframes to All properties of the asset you're trying to rig, from frame 0 to frame 4 (5 frames total). Even if it doesn't change in 2 or 3 of those keyframe sets you still need to have keys there.

    Wasn't helpful, my joysticks and sliders doesn't have a "bind" button under the switch templates. What the hell?

      This tut was made with an earlier version of Joysticks 'n Sliders. The functionality is all there, the UI just looks a bit different. Here's the section on using Switch Templates in 1.5 th-cam.com/video/Fi-FHnjU5ds/w-d-xo.html

      oh wait wait... The newer version of joysticks and sliders put the bind button in a different place. My bad

    i tried this with ears but didnt work :( any chance on a tutorial on ears?

    • @mikeoverbeck9136
      @mikeoverbeck9136  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know many have used this method for ears on the head. the process is the same just with ears instead of arms. If you have more details on what isn't working I can help.

      Okay, I understand. You can adjust where your ears swap by moving their placement around in the template comps. So by moving the ears in the left Switch Template to the left a bit, then moving the ears in the right Switch Template to the right, your ears should rest behind the head in the origin pose. How far you move them in the template will determine where the switch happens when you move your joystick.

    i want to use it with rubberhose any solution ?

    • @mikeoverbeck9136
      @mikeoverbeck9136  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Joysticks n sliders works great with rubberhose. you can rig your wrist and shoulder nulls and any of their properties to a joystick.

      is there any way to rig character turn with rubberhose ? i have tried this example but failed

      I finally did some tests with Rubber Hose and this method. Create your front/back duplicate arms by creating new linked hoses. That will give you identical hoses for the front and back arms. In your switch templates, instead of copy/pasting the actual hose shape layer (which will give you expression errors) you can create nulls and give those nulls the names of your hose shape layers. Switch templates work by matching layer names, so the items in your templates only have to match items in your main comp by name.

    Thanks Mike very nice tutorial. It seems you have not designed this for rookie animators like me as it is not mentioned that how and from where one can get joysticks and slider window. Can we do this body hand animation without Joystick...please help.

    Hey Mike, nice tut.. Have you tried this with rigged arms or legs? Let's say with Duik for instance. Is it possible to do that?

    Thanks, this is what was missing into the aescript videos. I had trouble with hair, the switch is still not perfect but this is better than using opacity.

    Thanks for the tutorial. How would Puppet Tool (for the hand) work with stacking? Does it works the same? I did a few test myself, but there are problems when it comes to duplicating the arms for the stacking process.

      This is a better method for animated stacking of this kind. th-cam.com/video/YpN_9Q3s6V0/w-d-xo.html

    thank you Mike.. what is a little unclear for me is the placement of objects in the switch templates.. I tried and it works.. though mine don't appear to swap at exactly the mid center point... Does it matter how we place them in the switch composition.. other than on the left or right side?

    • @stophnerf
      @stophnerf 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Absolutely necessary to be intentional with placement in the Switch Templates. Picture the square of the template composition as the square of the origin of the joystick you're linking it to. If you want an object to appear when the joystick is halfway to the left, then you need to place your object in the switch template halfway to the left.
      Also keep in mind you don't need to have literal copies of the objects in your templates; you can use squares with identical names to represent the objects you want to switch. Can help to simplify placement that way, as you deal with an array of squares in stead of say arms or noses or ears

      I would go into the position property, set them both to center in the comp. (500,500)
      Then set the left side to (250,500) and the other to (750,500)
