I recently bought a very similar (actually identical but 'made' by a company called Katsu) for model work, I was using a full sized bench press drill - too big really and sounded like a steam roller going down the road! The mini drill is brilliant! I found a set of floor tiles to protect hard floors from exercise equipment greatly reduced in the end of summer sale in the local supermarket, a set of six for £3.99 - I cut one down to just a little bigger than the base plate and the drill runs almost silent on the work top now! Highly recommended for micro drill bits (0.4mm but can go down to 0.1mm!)

I would like to know if this machine has the power to use milling bits, for cutting slots in brass for knife guards, similar as you would use in a mini mill machine, as with the Proxxon machine, and if so where can we purchase this machine

Hi There, Thanks for your question. Yes, this mini drill press can be used for light milling (brass bolsters) work as described. However, the quality of the milling is determined by the quality of the bits used, lubricant and the skill of the operator. Thanks again for watching; hope this helps!

Hi BJ, Thanks for your question. The chuck on this drill press goes up to ¼”. Rio does not carry larger replacement chucks for this drill press.
If your work requires something larger, you may need a larger, more heavy duty drill press than this.

Hi Justin, This drill press has three variable speed ranges: low (0-5,000rpm), medium (0-6,500rpm) and high (0-8,500rpm). The Jacobs chuck spindle accommodates drill shanks up to 6.5mm. It's available on our site: bit.ly/2Gtnr2k. Hope this helps, and have a great day!

Needs either clamps or a small drill press vise, bad idea to be drilling sheet metal on a drill press if it grabs the metal while its spinning fingers can be sliced and diced in short order.

Yup the man above is correct , clamp that sucker to the bench , bolt on a small vise with the jaws lined with leather , bobs yer uncle ten usable fingers .
