    Great tip. I have the same extractor and had the same issue. Tried using a drill with same problems. What a stoke of luck to find your video. I got the parts that you listed and it works perfect for small time/backyard beekeepers. Thanks a lot.

    How does the shaft not slip within the coupler?

  • @boblamb7539
    @boblamb7539 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Did this last year and worked great but I tightened the couple down too hard and bent the bearing and the bearing ended up bowing up after awhile. Just bought 3 more bearings 5.xx/ea) and will be careful tightening it down this year.

    Hi @clifman2, thank you so much for this video. Can you please clarify something for (I don't really do any DIY of this type, more with wood) - so the shaft coupler goes into the needle bearing? The bolt is obviously for the drill to grip - so the bolt goes into the shaft coupler? These are probably really obvious questions to you... Thanks again, Diana

      I meant the shaft coupler goes around the bearing?

    • @clifman2
      @clifman2  ปีที่แล้ว

      The coupler holds the bearing and the bit that goes into the drill. I just added some photos in the description. Here they are too. My newest version I used a socket and a socket adapter to fit into the drill. Hopefully that helps. drive.google.com/drive/folders/1Bb6B759wIMSV8dl40noVD--oa3jtdYjz?usp=sharing

    Thanks for the update. I’m wondering about the 2 parts on Amazon that you provided. Does one fit inside of the other?

    • @clifman2
      @clifman2  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, coupler clamps on to the bearing. Then slides on to the extractor's shaft. Then I found a socket that fit perfectly inside the other end of the coupler, added a drill adapter to the socket and connected to drill.

    Is your new coupler the 18mm bore? Also what is the part you used for the drill attachment? Thanks

    Would love to do this also , thinking of buying the same extractor in a 4 frame
    Do you have a list of parts and vendors so I can source the bits please
    Thanks

    Great Video.... Can you run the drill in reverse with this setup? Thanks

    • @clifman2
      @clifman2  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You could, but it would not do anything. It would just spin on the one way bearing.

    How does the bearing grab the extractor shaft

    • @clifman2
      @clifman2  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It allows it to spin freely in one direction but if you try to spin it in the opposite direction it tightens on the shaft and grabs it and turns the shaft.

      Clifton Kern so the bearing grabs the shaft one way and lets go the other?

    • @clifman2
      @clifman2  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@zacharyshorey6901 yes.

      Clifton Kern ok thank you so much, this will make extracting my 45 hives much quicker until I can afford an bigger extractor!

    I was looking for a solution like yours...my handle broke off of my 2-frame extractor, and I was hoping to attach a drill to the rod that the handle used to screw into...but it's 2cm in diameter--any suggestions on how I can adapt that to a drill?

    • @clifman2
      @clifman2  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well I love using the one way needle bearing. It lets you take the drill on and off and will not rip the drill out of your hands if you stop pulling the trigger. So you would need a needle bearing that fits your shaft (make sure you measure right, I ordered the wrong size at first and it did not work). Then you will need a coupler that will fit over the needle bearing and let you attach it to your drill. Hopefully that helps.

    Hi can you buy these in the UK

  • @burns375
    @burns375 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Skip all the extra parts. Mount a corded skill drill 6335-02 1/2" chuck directly to the shaft for $40.

  • @marcmcginnis8057

    As long as you find a shaft coupling that has a .75'" bore it should work the same as what you used, right? Amazon sells other types that are not as much as the one you linked is right now. It's now $43+ which is more than I am looking to pay :)

    • @clifman2
      @clifman2  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Correct, it just needs to fit around the bearing and whatever you plan to use to connect it to the drill with, in my case a bolt.

  • @shannenmitchell3281
    @shannenmitchell3281 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    You could make up a jig so the drill sits on a neat fit without holding the drill .

    What type of place to buy one of these needle bearings?

    • @clifman2

      I got everything from amazon. My original just broke yesterday! Lasted 5 years so not bad. I just ordered these 2 parts from amazon today. If they work I'll update my links in the description. They are a lot cheaper than my originals. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08J3R94JH/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A1THAZDOWP300U&psc=1
