Ouch. That was harsh.
Harsh but True, though.
I assume that is the case, I remeber playing perfect dark on n64 and on gameboy colour. It was a special cartage, it needed a battery of its own to run.

Do YOU understand why "modern" AAA game developers hate and insult us so much, then expect us to buy their game?
ESG came from the investors and finance groups with the scores and quotas (and the "incentives"). Some one or some group is pushing this from up top for sure... motive is still unclear.
@@ZirilianHint #1 money. Hint #2 control.
They don't expect us to buy their game. I believe they are not trying to convince gamers of anything; I believe they are trying to destroy the gaming industry.
It appears these developers have no concept of supply and demand. There is no demand for products where developers insult their customers. I would expect this sort of behavior from a young child who hadn’t learned to get along with other people.
@@Zirilian Divide and conquer. Even gamers aren't safe from the Elite's agendas. It's obvious there isn't a financial motive...
As a gamer, growing up in the 00s, I was used to people calling gamers names and blaming us for the world’s problems. I never expected developers of video games to hold that same sentiment
We got game devs hating their audience before GTA 6
I totally understand how you feel.
Funny story.
They are one in the same.
The people who used to call you a loser for playing games realized how much money is in it and now make them while still calling you a loser.
the way I see it, the people who used to blame gamers simply joined the gaming industry because it became a booming industry,
We have traded the christians and older gens hating something they don't understand for the people who make our games to become the very thing we sought to be free from.

Company fires other people
As someone who dabbled a little bit into the realm of level design, the absolute most interesting thing about it to me was solving the "puzzle"... and by "puzzle" I mean finding ways to guide the player with "signage" that wasn't obvious. You really want to help guide the player in the right direction, but you know that it is of the utmost importance for the player to experience that "Eureka!" moment where they feel they figured it out on their own, whether that be finding the spot the treasure is buried in or finding the room where the PC they need to hack into is... the player hates feeling like their hand is being held, but they also hate feeling completely lost with absolutely no indication of where they should even start.
After that, the second most important thing to me was telling a series of miniature stories through design choices. Call them mini Easter Eggs if you will. Small details that the player can put together to infer what may have occurred in this space prior to it being the scene for their current objective. Making an office building look used, or a home feel lived in. Why did someone leave that dirty plate by the sink instead of washing it and putting it away? Who left that dress caught half way in the closet door? The feeling of knowing you're not just crafting playable areas to tell the intended story of the current mission, you're also crafting mini stories to help make the place feel alive. It's not just some mostly empty liminal space, it's a real place inside the story that other characters often occupy and do things in. You're not just crafting a sterile, fit for purpose, 3D game space. You are world building.
You have already shown you have more understanding of level design and are a more appropriate employee to fill the role of level designer than Kolbe.
Great example of that worldbuilding through level design, and I'm sure you've already heard of it: myhouse.wad. If not, I can highly recommend the (lengthy) video titled "MyHouse.WAD - Inside Doom's Most Terrifying Mod" by Power Pak.
It's also impressive on a technical level.
You passed game design 101 💯.
Bless you, you actually understand what gamers actually want!

Company hires talent to create game
Company spends $100 million overall
Employees intentionally creates a game no one wants to play
No one buys game
Company loses $100 million, receives bad press from fans, and fires employees
Honestly, I don't know who's more at fault; the developers or the company who hired them. Both are responsible.
🤔
Yeah, I don’t get it.
The step that is missing is that company fires employees that talks down to their potential consumer. Where did that part go? All the company needs to do is to say: This employee does not work for us anymore the second this kinds of things goes out. Do some damage control, get someone new in, fix the problems that the employee that they fired mess. Than show that thing off and they are off to the races. Where did that thinking go? An employee that talks smack to the people that keeps the company runing, is still on the payrole, that means that the company accepts this kind of behaviour.
They all got their checks. Devs got paid, CEO's got paid, and they got money from Blackrock at lower interest rate cause DEI boxes checks. And investors DO NOT LOOK at the company they are investing in. They give their money to Blackrock, Vanguard, Statestreet, and wash their hands of the rest.

Gaming industry is doing the same thing. They are complaining about declining sales a lot lately.
This is why gamers are becoming nonbuynary, pre-orders and devs like this have burnt too many, too often for precious money to be wasted on something not made for gamers.
I'll stick to my Chinese mobile games at least I'll get a few hundred hours of enjoyment out of them before I get bored and move on to the next one and if I find one I like I'll drop 60-100 bucks and consider it my game purchase for the next few months

@@JohnnySarault-h2r For sure! I've had ideas for a Detective Batman game, where the focus is more on trying to solve crime/mystery and then prep for the mission once solved. A Batman game with harsh consequences for failing might not appeal to broader audiences though. Anyway, I rant, my apologies.
UE 5+ looks promising and it may have the multiplatform connectivity, for a special game related to a beloved IP, which would allow for VR/AR, mobile, console and PC to all play together.
It’s depressing being a gamer these days. I wanted to be a game dev ever since I was a kid but finances and lack of support never really made that come true so I settled on just being an artist for fun. But games were always one of my sources of inspiration especially during the 2000’s and even the 90’s with so many series that mostly are around while others have been abandoned or worse forgotten their identity
The industry is trash, but indie games stil shine......for now.
Same, i thought i just didnt had the skills and that the people involved in it were too good. Then i got some nice skills, went into a few game jams and the interest is pretty dead for now. Game devs also actually acting like clowns is a killer too.
Life lesson: Dont idolize people and what they do.
I always wanted to make my own games, but I dislike programming and definitely don't want to see me fixing bugs.
Hearing how the gaming industry is in flames now just motivates me even less.
It's crazy how much more creative and inspiring games felt back in the day, even when I play them today and have never played them before they just give me a different feeling from games of today, feeling far more passionate and interesting.
After I returned from my first deployment to Afghanistan the only thing that got me out of the house other than work, was gaming. Midnight releases were the only thing I looked forward to for a long time. Eventually gaming online helped me communicate with people with similar interests. Talking to them gave me something to look forward to. Gaming gave me a sense of normalcy after something difficult. And I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels this way. So I tend to hold gaming and gamers in high regards. That being said, people attacking potential(friends, supporters, customers, voters ect.) Seems to be a poor model for success. Maybe respect or at the very least, civil discourse, is how we all start to get along when we have real differences. For example the game designer in the suit I like to watch. He's a good example of how to act. Please keep being a good example.

Now gaming is filled with those activists who do not care about the hobby attacking those developers who loved gaming are now replaced with those who want to push their politics and hates gamers, we have activists in gaming journalism who only cares about a game if it fits their politics and gender ideology instead of seeing if the game is good.
Yeah it's crazy how polarizing the contrast is between gaming journalism back in the 90's 00's and gaming journalism in the 10's and today.
Well you know this year has actually been really interesting for me. Too often i go for the safe AAA games but with developers all saying pretty much that they don't want my money anymore, i've found a good amount of great indie and AA games. Only problem i have is that i won't have time to play every interesting title out there but that's a good problem to have.
That's an insightful perspective. It is bizarre they value twitter likes over our trust and support as customers.
I couldn't agree more! There are immense amounts of indy games available and in this day and age their production values rival those of AAA.
Yeah AA really makes the sort of games I used to look towards AAA for, and now AAA just feels like overproduced passionless slop.
@@mrjohnnyk yeah triple A does feel really soulless often. It doesn't take much risks with storytelling or gameplay these days. Just copy paste what made money last time and try to make it blander so it "fits for wider audience".

I applaud you for giving a voice to those who don't always have one. And speaking of being a disabled gamer and studios movie or otherwise. I've never once thought "I need to see someone like me in a game or I won't play it." Developers are missing the point of movies and games. Most people partake in those activities as a form of escapism. I have to live in a wheelchair why do I want to play a character who's in one too.. Sorry for the mild tangent. It's certainly more comforting to think that. In my experience these are very misguided, not very bright people that fell into a cult.

I just do not understand this even slightly. Like it makes no objective sense to make a product that is not for the consumer. A lot of retail worker hate working with customer despite their salary are somewhat came from customer.
But for those corpo game dev, it's a little different story, their salary come from investment not customer's money while customer money goes to CEO, shareholders and investors
Because of this, if the investors or shareholders don't mind producing slops after slops, the corpo devs won't care either.

@@dood52751 I dont think you've been paying enough of attention to the investment space. Investors are pulling out, atleast when it comes to the gaming industry. If its touched with DEI they want no part in it.

Children are so non-threatening. I biggest threat I ever got from a child while in an industry of working with children is, "You're not my friend any more."

Is it not bigotry to make taboo of female form? The hypocrisy is brain-melting. There might be something of a culturlal shift on the horizon, but video games are where DEI will still insist. Flop after flop, closure after closure, lay-off after lay-off. How much more is this industry going to erode before something changes?
You got Marvel Rivals over here dominating the hero-shooter scene as a F2P because, oh, hey, they care! Fun, immersive gameplay, golden-age character designs, no DEI elements. How could that possibly be??😳
Well said. I've got my marvel rivals video going live in an hour or two!
The great thing about video games is how no matter what's going on with them today, it has no ability to affect what was made before.
Great info look forward to working together in the future!
The biggest issue with modern video game studios is that they get the bulk of their developers from "Video Game colleges" which results in developments involving hundreds of people with a very mediocre skill set who have never fully studied art,or quantitve science or literature. In Turn you get very expensive mediocre products with mediocre coding, writing and art. A group of unspecalized people can achieve great things if they are lead by focused talented leadership but otherwise you get the current result which is expensive overly hyped mush.
It seems like video game companies don't care about hiring specialists which would require competitive FANG wages and instead they would rather exploit passionate people who attend video game colleges.
That and most people were chosen for superficial features as opposed to genuine ability.

What is actually really sad is that I firmly believe that there are genuinely people in the studio who DO play games themselves and want to deliver a good product that would gain even a fraction of he popularity of Path of Exile 2 or Wukong or Stellar Blade, but their efforts are sabotaged by activists like these and they even risk losing their job as the game fails and the studio is shut down. They cannot harm the gamers who simply wont buy the game, but they almost always hurt their colleagues who were sincere in their work and wanted to put forth their passion. No wonder we have whistleblowers, who are just trying to protect their job. Or, as we have seen time and again, the people who are actually talented and passionate are leaving these companies and starting a small studio/project on their own with a band of like minded people. Soon, all we have left are just bunch of activists who cannot make a quality game and had to resort to using modern day-isms to try to sell their game to the yet-to-exist modern audience. This level of self harm is commonly seen in drug-addicts to be honest.
Marketing team: Lets spend more money in marketing tham the actual game.
A single dev: Let me ruin that.

Just saying I'm glad someone as calm and level as Sungrad started talking about this stuff. A lot of the other channels are just rage machines that go off on knee jerk reactions to farm engagement and say the kinds of things that hurts everyone trying to make a reasonable, coherent point and give the activists the brushes to paint us all as actual villains.
Props to Kabrutus for cleaning up the DEI Detected Discord too. There were some awful actors that made everyone look bad in the early weeks, but they got sorted.
Even if they deliberately try to destroy some of our main means of recreation, it's not a well thought through plan because people are now more aware and sick of it than at any point in the last couple of years. They're pretty much just destroying themselves and the companies that are stupid enough to adapt to those politics. This shifts the customers' attention to the companies that don't do politics and insult customers. So no matter what their reasoning is, the outcome remains the same.
They will never be able to take it all away from us, that I'm very sure about.

He should start his own company instead of wasting it on someone else's expense.
Never going to happen as his failings would be directly linked to him - accountability and dealing with consequences for your incoherent actions is something these kind of people avoid like the plague
Interesting business strategy these days. Creating products so customers won't buy them. Amazing!. I would never have thought of that.
As an amateur level designer in counter strike I can confirm that listening to feedback isn't very important, it might not even be in the top 5 most important things. The most important thing is probably visual communication (ie. incentivizing players to go a certain way using lighting or blocking a path with a fence). It would have been a lot better if he said some thing like "considering every players feedback" since most players won't have the same overarching idea about the level as you do but a few ideas will be good so all things should be seriously considered.
Further, since this is a single player game they will ship the levels on day one so the only feedback he can consider is if they do any playtesting.
It is obviously you understand level design significantly more than Kolbe Payne. You would be far more appropriate an employee to work on this game than Kolbe.
And another game I won`t buy, thank you Mr. Payne. Sungrand love how you call out those industry children on their dumb takes. I would love to see you also talking about positiv examples. As an idea Jonathan Rogers on poe 2. He did a ton of interviews with youtubers big or small and talked in-depth about his company design decisions, why he did things one way and not the other with actual substance. Sometimes he even took away some suggestions to in a professional humble manner. So i think it would be a great way to showcase how you SHOULD act to become successful in an adult mature way.
Honestly I am glad at this point that they are telling us that they are curs makes it so much faster to avoid their turd at this point I feel that the golden age of gaming is far gone with small gems of studios still reminding us of what we lost
Definitely. But then again this sort of feels like movie industry in the 70's, when the big budget productions and big names fell, opening the door for new passionate creatives and smaller productions to flourish.
I’m relieved you didn’t punch down on that poor child. It’s bad enough that the cult has snatched him up at such a tender age and brainwashed him into such hostile and self-contradictory stances. We should start a go-fund-me to adopt him out of that cult. At least do something! Think of the children!

Even while on a much more powerful console. It always depressed me that, while fun, PDZ as clearly a drop in quality from the near _actual_ perfection that was Perfect Dark.
Spread collar with a full- windsor. Classy choice, sir.
every week we get a new one ruining their own game
So true lol, saving me money though. I am totally disinterested with new games for the most part now. Well done industry!
This reminds me of a quote I heard yesterday. When you have the freedom to believe everyting you want, no matter how absurd or preposterous, people usually do.
This AAAA The Initiative game will crash hard, especially considering the budget
It makes no sense and it's beyond frustrating. They enter a workspace that hates the audience, an audience that BUYS your product and they get angry when their game bombs financially and critically. And they do this thinking they're the hero
My favourite game studio is Nihon Falcom. It is a small Japanese rpg developer with less than 100 people, despite being one of the oldest studios in Japan. Their budgets are small, but they focus on great stories, lovable characters and fun gameplay. And, most importantly, they really appreciate their small but passionate fanbase.
People who work for AAA studios owned by billion dollar conglomerates need to start thinking like the people who work for small, independent studios. Though sometimes there is bad behaviour from devs at small studios, it seems like the vast majority of childish nonsense comes from AAA employees. It really seems like they have an elitist attitude that comes from thinking that, since they work for a billion dollar company, they are untouchable.
Nice. Yeah, I prefer games from smaller studios. Inti Creates is amazing and I buy whatever they make.
YS series is GOAT
It would be nice if a Marvel Rival character's design breakdown is on the way, that's my favorite type of video
"The most important thing about level design?"
Is it fun?
Sometimes I feel like people in the gaming industry completely lost sight of that simple concept. "Fun? What is that?"
thanks for sharing your expertise, as always ;)
Just one of several reasons why i'm retired from modern gaming: No Respect for the customer anymore. The owners, and developers will jump online and publicly trash their game's fanbase, then honestly expect us to show up with our wallet's open when the game releases. No sir. Ain't happening.
Yup, no longer supporting subscriptions or buying into AAA hype, I'm over it.
If I had a company and I had an employee who said stuff like this and outwardly showed contempt against the audience that we were trying to make our money with, they would be fired immediately. You aren't going to ruin my company and risk everyone else losing their job because you didn't get hugged by your parents.
I would take it a step further and fire whoever hired them as well.
Although I don't suffer from FOMO, don't buy junk games, and certainly don't pre-order, it's always nice when the devs pre-warn us that their game isn't worth buying.
There's £60 I can spend on quality indie games instead, and be happy.
(Or just keep it and work on the list of shame, maybe even install some of the games that never made it onto my disk).
Love the content! Keep it up 👍🏽
why don't games company's want consumers to want to buy their games, why keep insulting them
I genuinely want to know the answer to your question.
They got taken over by people who prioritize ideology and agenda above all. The industry needs to remove them from their positions.
I was so scared for that coffee and your attire throughout the video. You speak facts though! I haven't played a game in a bit, wonder why?
Hahaha thanks. Luckily the coffee didn't spill. It was pretty full.
Oh no, another developer attacking their potential customers...I never saw that coming. I feel like a lot of these developers are projecting. They are the bigots they fear so much.
Since this dev doesn’t like gamers and doesn’t want the majority to play his game, then he shouldn’t complain when the majority of gamers don’t buy the game
That's a real shame. I love immersive sims and the trailers so far looked kinda cool. They lost my sale tho.
Hope we'll see you soon with SmashJT on a panel together!
I knew that AAA immersive sim was too good to be true, time to replay System Shock and Prey.
Which Prey though? Prey, or Prey?
Yeah, don't you love it when they name the reboot the same as the original?
@EvenTheDogAgrees 2017. Yep, ZeniMax forced Arkane Austin to use that name, I think it killed the hype which is a shame because it's one of the best games I've ever played.
we need a list , too many never to buy from names to keep in mind
Like someone once said to me "when GTA falls... Western triple A gaming will end"
gta will never die
As Rockstar already stated, GTA 6 is intended for a "modern audience"
'NUFF SAID
@idkhonesty-78 probably, like any other game that is money making 🤣 but I kinda get what they are saying.
its not going to fail to many people love that game series and rockstar hasn't really said or done anything to piss off the public and I still haven't seen anything to make me think its going to be bad considering everything that has been in past GTA games they would have to do something crazy to tank this game and after spending over a billion dollars on it so far that seems unlikely, please rockstar don't prove me wrong
@@Sum_Yousah Well. It's a good marker but at that point it can mean nothing beside marketing bs. We see how it is when it came out.
"Thanks for watching"
And thank you for the video good sir.
Hello, thank you for the great content.
Imagen stepping into a bakery and the baker yells at you for wanting his baked goods.
I just cannot wrap my mind around the fact that people like this, we'll sit there and use every insult they can on their customers, and then give the Pikachu face when they're not making money hand over fist. I wonder if this idiot would want to give his money to say a McDonald's restaurant if they called him a bigot if he didn't buy a Big Mac from them? If he truly thinks gamers are a mistake then he has been in the wrong business for all his life
Exactly. They don't even need to insult and attack us. Their cult echo chamber has conditioned them to think that way.
EVERYONE is over it. It’s not just gaming. It’s EVERY FORM of media
I can’t even watch a commercial without being lectured
I'm way ahead of him.
So glad i subbed to this dude. Too tier class my man.
I GUARANTEE that the ENTIRE studio is right behind him shouting "TALK TO 'EM FROSK!"
-Gamers are a mistake,
-WHY IS NO ONE BUYING MY GAMES, MUST BE THE GAMERS
I think he was hoping for reverse psychology to take effect, while not realizing that the opposite of the intended will occur
'Don't buy our game!'
Thanks for saving me money.
I got plenty of other great games to look forward to like Monster Hunter and Kingdom Come.
To be fair, "listening to feedback" could also describe the process of playtesting and learning what works and what doesn't.
I really like your calm, logical take. The neat look adds maturity and respectability. Very well done. You are what people need to see. An adult response to children.
I appreciate that. Thank you for watching and appreciating the video.
I legitimately thought it was that Hansen fella from the Avowed debacle. I swear to God these people are starting to look all alike.
I’m just amazed that there is a new one of these people EVERY SINGLE WEEK. The year is almost up and we might still see a couple more😂
