Wow that collision at the start is impressive even by war thunder standards, they were going different ways and decided to go cross eyed for the same target
This is easily my favorite P-38 just because it can mount the A-36 gunpods, so I can mess around and turn my brain off for a bit if I get stressed out.

Honestly the repaircost isn't even a hindrance, the plane is a joy to use and easily at the very least trades, 3 kill or more matches aren't too uncommon either
How effective were the Gun pods? Did they not hurt your performance too much?
When you are engaging AAA units in convoys it is a lot easier to attack them coming down the road they're traveling on, hope this helps.

My Grandmother built 38's in Burbank, CA... she knew everything about that plane
My Grandfather also worked on both the P-38 and the Hudson Bomber at the Burbank Facility. An old family tale is that they had trouble seeing and securing a fastening point inside the wing to the center nacelle. He took an acrylic rod (at that time acrylics were brand new to the scene) and carefully heated and bent the rod and then secured it to the front of a flashlight which then could reach up in and illuminate the area that needed to be fastened. Kind of a precursor to today's fiber optics. Our family still has the small Lockheed P-38 Lightning pin that was given to all who worked on that project.

Personally I thought this P-38L was very good, good climb rate, a LOT of ammo, turns okay, very goof flap performance at low speeds, and an airbrake to top it off, was the perfect beginner plane to learn maneuvers.
This is the plane I started enjoying RB in, but I see quite a bit of hate for it on the comments lol

Fighting A6Ms, A7Ms and good Spitfires is everone's nightmare though😅

Holy Shit Def, those flaps against that Ki-84 was the sickest P-38 drift ive ever seen, at one point you where basically standing still while the plane just rotated in space.

@@liamboyle9199 Same. I usually end up at 8000km alt and then realize that there are no enemies at high altitude and then i have to try to get down from there :DD

Was getting sort of sick of the endless uptiers in the P38K so I gave this thing a go and its an absolute joy to fly. Performance difference didn't feel that big and scaled down extremely well into the lower brackets. Fondest memory in it was winning a frantic and desperate 1v2 against 109s on the deck while crit, which by all means I probably should have lost.
With the gun pods is an absolute unit of a plane

yoooo, i had a collision like that before, i was in a 2v1 and i dodged them both from head on, they took opposing turn circles around me and collided like a shot out of some kind of action movie, made my night, i quit immediately and played something else.
I gotta say Defyn, ever since I’ve been watching your videos, I feel much more confident in Air RB. I’ve got my first 6 kill game yesterday with the American FW-190 A-8. I’m much more vigilant with my energy and my nose Authority not to mention how to aim/lead more efficiently. Keep up with the great content!

This is the exact issues I have with the P-38s I’ve flown, they’re excellent planes to fly once you get it right, but at high speeds keeping the nose on someone’s six is extremely difficult.
The plane would compress really bad irl too. That’s why the later variants had air brakes so you wouldn’t overspeed.
Again, it shows that if you know your aircrafts capabilities, your opponents strengths and weaknesses, and make good decisions, any plane can be made to work. Now me, well I get bored too easily, and do stupid stuff just to get to the next match. I also, at my age, have a difficult time keeping track of all the enemies. If I get in a one on one dogfight, and get left alone, I do pretty well. But add that second guy to keep track of and I doomed.

P-38 is one of, if not my favorite WW2 fighter and I like playing it, but playing this thing against turn fighters is just hell on earth
this planes odd handling is a good thing for console gremlins like me because it lets you line up shots and manouvers slighlty easier than with normal twin engines

I remember having a lot of good times with the Chinese P-38L, but I haven't played the American one. Don't think there's a big difference though. Using it as an interceptor is always fun, if enemy bombers exist. I don't enjoy dogfighting in planes like this though, nose authority is too important.

either you're good with the P-38, or they changed the flight model, but last time I checked, it was a mistake to dogfight in a Lightning. Possibly both. Yeah, not quite your average shooting score. Phlydaily phlew one with blue metallic skin that made it one of the most gorgeous plane ever to me. I just love the way it looks. Very enjoyable thank you!

A6m5 are such a pain to deal with because they are so difficult to hit and they can just pull some absolutely ridiculous aerobatics and get guns on you.

Yeah, this plane is very frustrating to play because it has all the flight performance you want but the guns are so sluggish to aim you always seem to miss your shots

Hey defyn I have recently gotten the F100D and have been struggling with the su25 spam of r-60’s and I think it would be cool to get a video on it again since the last one was years ago
I’d just get the f104 or f105 as they are so much better, the f104 now that it’s 9.3 is amazing

@@holeefuk6719 the problem is that the in the f100 everyone does somthing better then you do you are always on the back foot, and it’s only out liner are aim9E’s but with the amount of upteirs and premium attacker spam even that isn’t the best

I will agree, angling and aiming the guns at high speeds with turn fighters is a bit frustrating but whenever it connects, it's rewarding.

Defyn it is time to revisit F104A/C, with 9.3 BR basically no one is catching you. Watching 3 mig15 on your 6 and can do nothing against you it a out of the world feeling.
i tried palying the FW190 A8 recently and it refused to make a smooth turn. Instead of just turning with mouse aim, it kept wobbling the wings. Just awful

If you are in a plane that does not have a very powerful gun, going into the merge head on with another plane (like the p38 for example) with better guns than you is not a good idea to stay head on in the merge to hopefully shoot the other plane out before you even start the merge. instead, use maneuvers to make sure that the other plane does not hit you in the merge. Most of the time, when doing maneuvers, the plane will not hit you and you will be able to get in the merge. Usually, the way war thunder works is that planes either trade gun power for turn time or turn time for gun power. This means that when entering the merge, your turn time will be greater than the opponents plane and you can get the kill. If you are going into a merge with a plane that has the same gun power as you, the choice is yours to either maneuver or go head on. If you are in a plane that trades turn time for gun power, (like the p38) it is best to stay directly head on with other planes as the P 38 Canon can destroy planes quickly. Although, like I said earlier, this means your turn time is not as good as the opponents, this means that you have to make sure you destroy the opponents plane before having the merge. This is usually pretty easy to do unless the player knows how to maneuver, but not many people know how to so yeah. considering the immense fire power of the P 38, it's pretty likely you will get the kill before the merge begins. If you have any questions, let me know in the comments and I can gladly answer for you.
Do you ever use a stick - stick/throttle gear? Or have you found the KB-M better for you? I've used sticks or stick/throttle gear for fifteen years and only wind up getting better stick/throttle gear over time. 8 )

@@DEFYN I started in HTC's Aces High back in '05. I pulled out a few years ago because they stopped advertising and subscribership piddled down to numbers not worth playing.
I miss the game. The flight and damage modeling I believe is still the best out there. I felt it was worth the $15/month. Over the years I trained hundreds of players. At one point the squad (a bomber squad that focused on the Ar-234) I commanded maintained more than 100 members with a newsletter and web sight. Oh well, that was then lol.

They are a direct copy paste of the F2A Buffalo. Should be a fair bit lighter with a slightly weaker engine but Gaijin just did the lazy thing.

@@TheLazyKat Guns are the same. As for why people are hyping about it? 2 reasons. First the tech tree in question doesn't have a lot of good planes in it and second it is still a good plane. It might be on the slower side in terms of level flight speed but it has a good climb rate and is quite maneuverable.

I love prop dogfights but air rb is just too slow. Much prefer taking fighters out in ground where there is no spotting and you dont climb for 10 minutes

Stay with mouse aim. I have always been an Xbox player and started on playstation. You are at a massive disadvantage if you don't. It never gets easier to aim. If you do insist turn up no linearity on pitch yaw and roll(if you don't have an Xbox elite.v2 controller where you can adjust stick curve and smooth it out. ) Learn simulator mode only for a more fair battle. Use a bumper for a shift. Key for alternative commands etc
