    Regardless of the negative comments, these motors run nicely. Not a powerhouse, but fun enough torque and just good reliable engines. Be proud to own one, they aren't around anymore, and you are literally working on a piece of history. Kudos bro! As a side note, I own a 1986 buick regal with one of these, sounds like a beast with 2.5" stainless steel dual exhaust, fools everyone !

      Thank you for being one of the few guys that just get it.
      Some of these keyboard warriors think everything is junk if it isn’t a 1000hp twin turbo LS. When in fact these 307 did exactly what they where intended to do. And this one does quite well. I got videos of some awesome posi shots and cookie cutting on the channel to prove it.
      The comments fuel me more to do more unthinkable stuff with an engine like this and put it in something it doesn’t belong in just to ruin someone’s day. 🤣

      @@BoneyardRevivals Sounds like a great plan. I have a 1964 283 and 2 speed powerglide transmission out of a Chevy Impala SS. Waiting to find a decent Monte Carlo roller to toss them in. Love some old school power.

    I played with a roller 307- I was going for economy and torque. Cheap!
    Port polish, remove the non working emissions, recurve the dizzy, tuned early carb....new gaskets and timing chain.
    wish we could have decked the block.
    What a difference it made , it really ran sweet and drive way better too. Mid 20’s + gas mileage was easy for this car

    In an Oldsmobile 307, the stock cylinder heads and intake manifolds from 80-84 307’s flow a lot better than those from 1985-90. Not quite race car parts, but with a bigger cam and flattop pistons, you will definitely notice a big difference.

  • @JohnGavagan-vi1or
    @JohnGavagan-vi1or 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    Never got to play with a 307 but I see it's 85-90 vintage. The main thing I would do is up the compression and leave the cam alone. That cam is already ground for mileage. The higher compression would give you a little more power and increase your mileage even more. A properly metered carb would help but an EFI would do the job too. with proper tuning you could get good performance and much better mileage. Good luck.

    They are a good torquey engine with a great reliability history. What helps them out is a good distributor with a better mechanical advance curve, good Quadrajet with a tad bit of richening. The pollution equipment, & calibrations was a huge hamper. Good dual exhaust helps. Its not going to be a very huge powerhouse but youll definitely notice a difference in power, yet the fuel economy especially on the highway will get you in the 20s depending on how you rear geared the vehicle.

    The best budget build for a 307 is to replace it with a 330, 350, or 403 Olds. Or you add some boost and hope for the best like I am doing with my 260 Olds 😂

    These are good engines...a properly sized turbo with 6-8 psi and maybe watermeth injection to help prevent any detonation and 5a heads with a cam to match and it'll be a reliable grocery getter and some adequate oomph and passing power

    The 307's up to 85 have, mostly, 5a heads. The roller engines have puny swirl port heads. The ticket is to use the roller block with the 5A heads. However, that engine will never be more than and every day reliable grocery getter. Yes, you can figure out how to go from 140ph to 240 or a little more but it's not worth it. IF you do go to swapping the heads and intake you could regrind the cam. Is this engine a Vin Y or vine 9?

      I though they were dogs too until I went from a 2.14 rear gear to 4.11s. It was a night and day difference. And it helped that 307 out a ton.

    What did this Olds 307 come out of? Supposedly, Olds 350 5A heads can be swapped on these, and Comp Cams does offer Roller cams for these, if someone wanted to make a performance version of a 307. Just in case you had to sell this to a potential customer.

    So many people are 307 bashers. Olds made a High output 307 for the 442 which has 180 Hp. I had a 1968 Impala with a 307 chevy engine it had 200 Horsepower!

    The Olds 307 is a very good motor. I have got 450,000 km out of an early flat tappet motor. Surprised it has cast iron exhaust manifolds. Most swirl port roller cam engines had tubular stainlesd steel exhaust manifolds.

    I own an 83 buick Riviera with one of these engines in it that needs a headgasket replacement so this video is super helpful and I'm glad you made it. I do have a question though, I've only ever worked on adjustable valves. So with these non adjustable ones I'm actually confused as to how reinstalling them would work. Is it really as easy as putting everything back in or is there a specific process to it?

    • @BoneyardRevivals
      @BoneyardRevivals  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There is a bit of a process to it. I have a video on a Small block Chevy build I did that explains how to do it.
      Just a side note, you don’t need the special indicator wheel indicator I used. You can watch the valves to know where you’re at.

    What do you recommend for an 82 olds 307 for a aftermarket intake and carb set up? Has 5A heads and 62,000 orignal miles has the emersions and eletrical carburetor on it now and want to get rid of it.

    • @BoneyardRevivals
      @BoneyardRevivals  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I personally never built a 307. My opinion is that the Oldsmobile platform is just not one of the best to build. It cost a lot more than other platforms like the chevys. Hence the reason this engine came out of my cutlass. The oiling issues with Oldsmobile scare me along with how much money it costs for aftermarket parts. That’s the main reason why I haven’t done anything with this one yet.
