I think the most impressive words she has used in songs are “Machiavellian” and “aurora borealis”

This song is about her depression. She felt like her depression will last for a long time. Taylor wrote this song about the bad things she was dealing with in 2016 (the whole Kanye/Kim Kardashian fiasco) she is the one writing a letter about what she’s going through in the song. She breaks down the pain she suffered through during certain months of the year. The song isn’t just about depression. She also talks about trying to get to a better place. Bon Iver’s verse talks about moving on with your life after dealing with hardship. They want to find light in a world full of darkness. He assures everyone that things will be better. She decides to change the song at the end so that everyone can feel hopeful about life.

He should react to all of the songs! Folklore and evermore are Taylor's best works in lyricism and every song is a masterpiece.

Technically, it is Big Red Machine (Justin Vernon and Aaron Dessner), Taylor pretty much sings the whole song.

This is my favorite song on the Evermore album. I love how it’s a sad song about depression but that it ends on a such beautiful positive note. Never lose hope; time does heal.

You should react to both folklore and evermore, the running joke is you will need a folklore and evermore starter kit, a dictionary. There is an interview with Taylor, she was asked about her unique word choices, and she told him that she writes down words that she would like to use in songs.

Taylor is a poet who just makes her art in music form. The info you had before on Taylor, like "she just writes about her boyfriends", is just the false media narrative from 2014 who has stuck with people, especially men, and those you don´t listen to her music, for such a long time. Taylor is a master songwriter, she was awarded Songwriter-Artist of the Decade by the Nashville Songwriters Association last year. You should listen to more songs from her foklore and Evermore albums if you like this.

Oh you’re a Swiftie now! Folklore and Evermore, her two pandemic albums are perfect. Even if you don’t love every single song, they are lyrical and sonic masterpieces.

Great reaction. You might want to check out the full Long Pond Studio Sessions video - I think you already watched the Long Pond sessions version of Exile. Along with the stripped down versions of her Folklore songs, there are some interesting conversations about the songs and songwriting and production process between Taylor, Jack Antonoff, Aaron Dessner, Juston Vernon and the mysterious William Bowery.:)
FWIW, I basically got pulled into Swifty world by Taylor’s collaborations with Justin Vernon - turns out Dessner and Vernon are best friends and have a side project that Taylor’s also collaborated with.
I realized in going back and listening to her other albums that her lyricism has been pretty incredible all along. You might also really appreciate her re-recording of “Red (Taylor’s Version)”. I particularly liked her previously unreleased “from the vault” songs, especially “Nothing New”, which she sang with Phoebe Bridgers. Most notable is that Taylor wrote that song when she was 22 about how the music industry treats female artists as they age.
You might also want to check out Midnights. It’s a more pop-centric production sound, but as much as I gravitate to Indy music I also really love that album. How can anyone fail to love lyrics that include tongue in cheek lines like “I swear - I’m only cryptic and Machiavellian because I caaaare”?

8:59 I don't necessarily think of it the same way, I think her part of the bridge makes sense on its own, also the lyrics he's singing are in parentheses, "And when I was shipwrecked,I thought of you, in the cracks of light, I dreamed of you, it was real enough to get me through but I swear you were there" he wasn't just there just in her thoughts, mind and dreams but he actually was there for her and so the lyrics switch at the end,.
I think it' very difficult to appreciate this song to the fullest if you don't know the context, she was canceled in 2016, around the same time she met her current boyfriend,
"motion capture, put me in a bad light" there was an edited video that made her look as if she was lying and trying to act like a victim, so it captured her in a bad light
"staring out an open window catching my death" basically #taylorswiftisoverparty was trending worldwide and people would tweet things such as RIP Taylor and would put pictures of a tombstone with "Taylor Swift 1989-2016"
I tried not to put so much details so didn't explain all the lyrics just to get a general idea and how intentional she is with her lyrics and even her words, she's very well spoken irl so it only makes sense that she chooses her lyrics very carefully

I agree that I don’t view it the same way he did. He paused the video just before she was about to say that line, so he kind of lost the momentum of the song and the train of thought of the lyrics. No biggie, it just seemed obvious that it was bound to happen. Also, I’m so used to reactors hitting the ‘rewind’ button before they press play again because one can lose a second or two of the song after pausing and trying to get back into it.

You should react to more of her songs from folklore and evermore if you like more songs like these that showcases her songwriting & voice. She wrote and released those two albums during the pandemic and worked on majority of the songs on those albums with Aaron Dessner so they are more indie folk.

Ahhh, evermore. One of my faves. it is about her depression in 2016. In my opinion this song is part of 4 songs that kinda go together, telling the story about the same incident and the depression / aftermath. There is a song she wrote for Big Red Machine called Renegade, Bon iver sings back up. Most people think she wrote it from the perspective of her boyfriend in 2016 trying to help her get through the depression. Evermore is from her perspective. This sound is more due to her collaboration with Aaron Dessner during the pandemic, although even the songs with jack Antonoff fit the aesthetic so its not entirely Aaron Dessner’s influence. Im an older fan, in my 50’s, and I started listening during pandemic with folklore and this is what I was waiting for. If you listen to Renegade, and if you like it, you should listen to some additional tracks from evermore and folklore such as My Tears Ricochet, This is me trying, Ivy, and a collaboration on her latest album Midnights called The Great War.
I would also agree to the suggestion by another commenter on the song Nothing New with Phoebe Bridgers written when she was 22 (2012) but released in 2021 nearly a decade later.
