      I think it's just that progressive rock is a narrow field not for everyone, too complex. Supertramp sure has its hardcore fan group and has sold in the range of 75 million albums. Their records have been on rotation in my place for forty years.

    Goodbye Stranger is my favorite, but lyrically please also react to the “Logical song”. I think you’ll enjoy both. Supertramp is an amazing band with many hits and the songs are different because they had two totally different writers. Also these albums had top tier producers. Also there is a great 1978 concert in Paris if you want to see live. Goodbye Stranger from that concert is amazing.

    First discovered *Supertramp* unintentionally. Expecting *Ted Nugent* in a 10,000 seat concert arena, but I was *one of only twelve* that bought tickets to their *"Even In the Quietest Moments"* tour. Most professional band - performed full setlist, plus encored us with unreleased songs from *"Breakfast in America"* album. Live Concert or Studio Recording - sound quality equally the same, very rare!

  • @paullacroix527

    Supertramp was a great band with so many great songs. To those of us that were there we just considered them a rock band. I never heard these bands labeled progressive until a couple years ago. We just considered them rock bands. Some favorites: Crime of the Century, Give a Little Bit, Rudy and From Now On but many more. BTW the album on your display is one of the greatest records ever. RIP Marvin..

    Love, love, love that you guys are getting into Supertramp. They are an amazing band that I had the fortune to see live 16 times. I hope you do School or Hide In Your Shell next from the Crime of the Century album. They have basically two lead singers, Rick and Roger with Roger singing on most of their big hits. I appreciate their deep cuts more than most of the hits but you can't go wrong with any Supertramp.

    Ha! Great to see u guys bangin’ with Supertramp.
    They’re progressive pop.
    ST, back in the mid to late 70’s @PSU, was one of main musical food groups! Crime of the Century, Breakfast in America and Even in the Quietest Moments are among my fave albums of all time!
    If you blended Floyd & one of the pop greats, like Elton… you get Supertramp!

    I have said this before but it bears repeating.....
    The 1970s AM and FM radio airwaves were FULL...so full of amazing music!
    Mainstream radio spoiled us!
    We could hardly change the channel without finding a GREAT song!
    His vocals starting at about 3:15 are so expressive, so emotionally beautiful.
    I can't get enough of that

    If you guys do a full album reaction then this should be it. Hide in Your Shell is buried amongst these other great songs and is rarely reacted to. I think it is easily one of the best songs ever written by anyone, not just Supertramp. This album still gets regular play almost 50 years later, masterpiece.

  • @hklinker

    Play the Even in the Quietest Moments album start to finish. You probably don’t know the first thing about it, so it’s perfect. And the album is pretty much perfect, too.

  • @donaldfinigan8778
    @donaldfinigan8778 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Supertramp existed on the fringes of progressive rock in their early years. Discarding their 1st 2 albums, their next 3 - Crime of the Century, Crisis? What Crisis? and Even in the Quietest Moments are staples for FM classic rock. Growing up in Montreal, one of the first places to embrace them after the release of Crime of the Century, they are rock royalty here. Breakfast in America may be their most commercially successful album, but it was also somewhat of a departure from their earlier work in an attempt to break into the American market. Not to put down that album or the few that followed, but, it is a different vibe and certainly a different band following the departure of Roger Hodgson. In my opinion, Crime of the Century is in the conversation for greatest rock albums of all time.

  • @TheSteveDallas
    @TheSteveDallas ปีที่แล้ว +21

    The Logical Song is also amazing. Breakfast in America is a great album, as well as others. Supertramp is worth a deep dive. Rodger Hodgeson still performs.

    I'll say it again, guys, you really need to dip into "Even In The Quietest Moments". "Breakfast in America"outsold it, but for my money that's their best album, strongest melodically. *Such* a good band!

    • @bookhouseboy280

    And it is great to watch again with someone that have not heard them before. It's just like presenting them for a good friend when the album came out.

    Lead vocals on "Dreamer" are handled by Roger Hodgson; their lead guitarist. The other lead vocalist is Rick Davies. He sings lead on two songs I think you will both enjoy. "Goodbye Stranger" and "Rudy" are treats musically!

    I remember the first time I heard this. Just about to leave the house as a teenager it came on the radio. It stopped me in my tracks and I turned around and listened to the whole thing. I bought it that day. The B side was a good too. Made me head into old Jazz because I loved the sound of it, in the way Led Zeppelin had me getting into old Blues because I loved that too. Love the appreciation of the old tunes I came up with. Musical soundscapes have always been a joy to explore. Be well guys, and have fun.
