What a fun episode. You guys seemed to have a lot of fun doing this one. I liked the detour you made at the mid point to talk about how different the 80's was for movies. Also, Tricia killed me with this one 15:17 (I do too!).
    My favs:
    1. Back to the future
    2. Predator
    3. Aliens
    4. The Terminator
    5. Empire Strikes Back
    6. Raiders of the Lost Ark
    7. Total Recall
    8. The Last Crusade
    9. Die Hard
    10. When Harry Met Sally
I found the Indiana Jones movies difficult to place. I feel like I haven't kept up with them over the years. I'll have to watch them again.

    Ok. Here's what I have.
    1) The Empire Strikes Back
    2) Raiders of the Lost Ark
    3) Die Hard
    4) The Princess Bride
    5) Return of the Jedi
    6) Castle in the Sky (Laputa)
    7) Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
    8) My Neighbor Totoro
    9) Chariots of Fire
    10) Romancing the Stone (mostly for the opening sequence. It makes me feel seen as a writer and it gets so many points for that )
Except for the last one (again, in because of the opening), these are all movies I can't live without. I find them essential to my sense of self for one reason or another. There are so many other good movies in this decade. But these belong to me.

*Chariots of Fire* definitely deserves to be on the list, and it is not one that came to my mind.

Can tell you all are younger. Being in my 20s in the 90s, the movies beside Star Wars / Indiana Jones was Breaker Morant
    Thief
    Top gun
    Terminator
    Romancing the Stone
    First blood
    Children of a lesser God
    Ordinary people
    The outsiders
    - [ ] Die hard
    Urban, cowboy
These really hit us at the time. I remember people that watched top gun …over and over and crying when goose died. Urban cowboy-everyone went to country bars and rode a bull even college folks. Romancing the stone merged adventure and rom com. Created a new genre of rom com. Terminator was all the talk. You couldn’t go into book store without hearing soundtrack of terminator being played. Breaker Morant was first foreign film to capture office workers. Ordinary People shocked folks that idolized Mary Tyler Moore .

Gotta say, I'm sad that no one has David Lynch's Dune on their list. Y'all, I know it's got problems, but I love this movie so much 😅

    9. The Naked Gun
    10. Midnight Run

Cool episode but I'm surprised that there is almost no foreign films mentioned. Were you limiting the selection to American movies?

Loved this episode. Strange that everyone snubbed Scarface

      @abstractdaddy1384 ปีที่แล้ว +3

It's not strange at all. Scarface isn't known for actually being a good movie.

@@abstractdaddy1384I agree. It has a few quotable lines and memorable moments, but it isn't a great film imo.

I can't believe "the breakfast club" makes it into these top10 lists. Can someone explain it to me? Is it just nostalgia? A bunch of incredibly stereotypical characters. They spend a day together, open up 100%, cry a bit and learn to understand each other. Yeah sure, very believable. What else? School = prison. Parents bad. Ah, a double romance story, one post-sexual harassment (OK, it's the 80s but seriously? snob girl falling for the bad guy?), the other thanks to the girl getting her make up done (mmm). The movie dragged on forever for me, zero engagement. 5/10 would not recommend

    • @abstractdaddy1384
      @abstractdaddy1384 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Did you listen to the part where Michael talked about it? It answers all of your questions, and it obviously isn't nostalgia for him because he just watched it for the first time like 2 months ago.

@@abstractdaddy1384 he didn't say much in this video but I found they did a podcast on it just a month ago so I'll go and check that. I am genuinely puzzled by the acclaim of what I perceived as a very mediocre movie

That's fair. Certainly best thing to do is check out the episode they did on it.

Shame on you! Just kidding. Sometimes we just can't help what we like and don't like. I couldn't stand Everthing Everywhere All At Once, but it seems everyone else did. Go figure!
