Since I’ve been first made contribution at Crayware’s Shmups DEV Studios and very first indie game project made “Gunner Blade 1: Tales of Landscape”, Predicting with the Thanksgiving 2024 received first played by Bento_Vtuber, It’s very fun with amazingly journey 2024 memories.
@PIXELPILOTS-STG It'd be cool if you could do a video on the Brazillian video game scene. Haven't seen one really since that awesome Noclip documentary on Brazil and the video game industry back in the day (and current stuff up until 2017?). I haven't been back to Brazil in over 20 years, and seeing that video games even back then the way it was on the streets and small stores was awesome. A current video might be some good content to consider, even though the channel isn't doing content like that. Just an idea :)

Nice list; there were so many good releases this year that it's hard to disagree. Personally, I think Angel at Dusk should've made the list - overwhelming amount of content (which normally doesn't really matter for a shmup) and loads of thoughtful player- and user-friendly options.. Too good!
Yes, you're absolutely right! I just haven't had the chance to play Angel at Dusk yet, due to lack of time/money. It's on my wishlist, but I ended up prioritizing other games, but this "best of" was just the first one I made. I intend to include it in a recommendations video that's being prepared for 2025. I could say it's something that took me a lot of time to learn how to do, but I would be lying. It's a new preset transition on Davinci Resolve, and I love it too! :D I'm glad you enjoyed, and Merry Christmas!
You should give minishoot adventures a try! Some may say it’s not a Shmup but if Iron Meat is included in the definition then Minishoot would be too. It’s definitely a genre-blender but bullet hell twin stick shooter is its main vibe. My fave indie of the year 😊
I tend to be much more inclusive and tolerant when it comes to the shmup genre since I started writing about it (back in the blogging days of the 90s). I like to include twin stick shooters, run'and'guns, and games with shmup elements in the genre, because I believe that the target audience identifies with and consumes these games too, so yes, your recommendation makes perfect sense. @@SolCresta3405 Depending on what you are looking for, it's still a great cinematic experience. But most of its design choices in terms of gameplay go completely against arcade-like design choices. Not just in terms of giving you hp or having an upgrade system. But also enemies firing at you as they move off-screen, having inertia in your movement (making dodging less of a thing), having overly long stages; i.e. stuff that is not that player friendly either. Having said that, I'll play it early next year too, since it looks cool. If you want a breakdown of the game, Electric Underground has a larger video on it.
Usually the lifecycle is: Steam -> Consoles (digital release) -> Physical releases. I think there's a considerable chance of seeing some of those titles getting a physical release.

I don't understand the hate for CYGNI: All Guns Blazing and Raiden Nova... I was actually really looking forward to those. I mean, I kinda understand Raiden Nova probably won't be everyone's cup of tea due to suddenly going all Asteroids or Vampire Survivors instead of the usual vertical scrolling gameplay, but what's so bad about CYGNI? Also, Contra: Operation Galuga didn't even get an honorable mention in this video?
the short answer is that cygni doesnt really play much like a shmup. dodging and positioning arent as much of a thing, instead you collect energy to power your shields and tank a lot of the damage. a lot of the depth people come to expect from shmups is eschewed in favor of managing a single meter. on top of that the game is designed to require the player to grind for ship upgrades, which takes a lot of time, especially considering that the stages are really long and repetitive. some people like it, and thats great. most people arent really trying to hate on the game, it just dropped the ball for most people and thats why most of the shmup community is down on it. especially when it looks so appealling, people wanna help other people save their money, or at least know what they're getting into.
Regarding Cygni, I understand that many people hated the game, which wasn't the case for me. I was simply disappointed that it didn't give me the impression that I was playing a shmup when I tried it. As I said in the video, I don't think the game is inherently bad, it's just that the experience of playing it is, at least for me, very different from playing a shmup, both visually and when trying to control the ship. I felt like I was playing something like a top-down version of Everspace or another game where you have to keep swapping resources from one side to the other as the needs of surviving on the battlefield change, instead of a shmup, where you play much more reactively, improvising and dodging bullets. Not to mention that I found Cygni to be very confusing both visually and in terms of controls. Again, it's not that the game is bad, it's just that the experience it provided me was very different from what I expected. Maybe it was a mistake of mine to have placed so much hope in it, expecting it to be something more like a shmup, but I understand why people like the game. It's just not for me.
About Galuga: I haven't had a chance to play it properly. The game is very expensive by Steam/digital distribution standards, and I'm waiting for the price to drop a bit. The little bit I did play in the demo was quite interesting, but I didn't think it was enough for me to form an opinion.

Devil Blade Reboot is not just my shmup of the year, it's my game of the year overall!
It's an awesome game, I just wish it could be a little bit longer, but all things considered, it's still great!
