  • Just showing that it IS possible to increase the squad size of the PC version of XCOM: Enemy Unknown. It is still very crude, and your extra soldiers sometimes spawn on weird places (sometimes even outside the map), but it shows that is not as hard-coded as it seemed... seems to depend mostly on map layout and spawn points. I would record more but the trial version of FRAPS only record 30 seconds.

    For anyone who is still interested in this, the newest version of the XCOM Tolboks mod allows you to easily change the squad size. You can get that at: xcom.nexusmods.com/

    How did you do this? I'd like to have a playthrough with loads of soldiers just to see how it goes! :D

    The game is for 4/6 squad cap, but it could be rebalanced for having 8/10 soldiers giving enemies more grenades,Stun and Fusion Launchers with AOF like they had in UFO Defense game. Stunned soldiers could get awake with Stim Pack (Which currently is not that useful).
    The use of SHIVS is actually discouraged in the game because soldiers are much more effective and polyvalent because of classes and perks.
    So at least for big missions we should be able to get the an extra space only for Shiv to use

    I'm going to play Warspace on Impossible IronMan, but I'm making some changes to make it more interesting:
    Council Mission each 15 days + 5 random days(20+7 before). UFO limit 3(2 before).
    UFO_INTERCEPTION_PCT=60 ; Chance that a UFO will require interception
    Increasing the UFO encounters. I'm lowering Alloys amount from UFOs and UFO_ELERIUM_PER_POWER_SOURCE=20 (25 before).
    Start soldiers in the barracks 15.
    Psi Training 360 hours but 5 slots.
    Higher UFO staying on Map before they disappear.

    how did you do this? I've always been pissed that you can only ahve a certain numbjer of soldiers and whenver they talk about balance, they always seem to forget that the ai is beast-please send me a walkthrough as to how to do this?

    squads with these numbers could work in this game if your squad had limited numbers of highly ranked troops per mission, say at most 3 squaddies, 2 sergeants, 1 LT, 1 CPT, 1 Major or Colonel, rest must be rookies.
    Otherwise you could just bring 12 squadsight snipers and overwatch till turkey day.

    Classic IronMan it's not that hard, the best thing you can do is start playing smartly, better tactics means less deaths, at least from PC players I expect this.
    I've seen console players that ridicoulously give tactics advises on videos, but makes tons of errors.
    I finished Classic IronMan in both Vanilla/Warspace Extension Mod, the mod is much better cause it improves the tactics/strategic layer, but it is easier, because aliens don't cheat with excessive aim/criticals %, research is slower.

    I do agree with you up to some points. But when you play Classic Ironman like a lot of us, you'll realise that after the third or fourth deployement you're going to lose entire squads at a time and not be able to finish the game. It's not even fair at this point. 12 is overkill and he did just to show us how it could be done, 8 Would've been perfect.

    Adding more soldiers may give you xcom "purists" a better taste of the original game, but it destroys the game balance. The game is designed around the 4-6 man squad cap. Changing this changes the game balance.
    Personally, I prefer the smaller squad cap. The larger the team, the longer and more tedious turns become. In addition, I find having to play with less troops, adds more depth, since you have less manpower at your disposal.

    Not that amazing. If someone code dives into it enough to add actual shot tracing into the game, instead of primitive and arbitrary dice rolls it has now - that will be something indeed.
