My best mate had a lot of students from Philippines when he was working as an instructor in driving school in Riga. Very nice people. Now he's a pastor. God bless You.
House of the Blackheads was like a corporation in those days. It was like a club of un-married merchants and sailors where they could meet, have some drink, discuss business, make deals, and so on. Latvia was a part of Hansiatic League then under German rule. Thank You for showing my native City. We, Latvians, take pride of being unique with our southern brothers and sisters, Lithuanians in language and culture. So, please, don't think of us as of some sort of Russian branch.
Sadly a lot of Latvian Jewish heritige has been lost, that was their homeland. We all know what happened, a lot of latvians and germans took part in these crimes during those horrible times. Daugavpils was basically a jewish city and others as well. Yes, there are still some synagoges left in daugavpils, rīga and elsewhere in latvia but a lot has been lost as well. For example the beautiful syngagoes of liepāja and jelgava. In kluldīga it has been preserved and is still standing. Thats the sad part, a lot of that latvian culture has been destroyed. Also a lot of baltic german culture has probably been lost also due to war related reasons, that was their homeland as well. In latvia we see their heritige all over the place
@@dreamthedream8929 Yes. That terrible war was perpetrated by both Nazi Germany and USSR alike who divided Europe amongst them. Latvians were sent to Siberia or killed. Many Jews were collaborating with NKVD, so there's no wonder Latvians were sour about Jews those days. Jewish peoples sufferings were terrible I agree. But they were not alone. Besides Jews have always leaned in favor of what ever regime comes to power. Such a renegades... War was terrible for All Latvian people. Not the Jews alone.
I was just about to ask about the long layover, but you answered my question, I am going to do a very long trip next year, I haven’t been out of Europe in 20 years🙈 so I was thinking about doing something similar as I have to have a layover somewhere but I didn’t know how to do that, good idea!😁
Glittering bling bling Katrina! I LOVE Riga! Such a beautiful city! I did a Baltic tour some years ago. All 3 capitals cities are worth visiting! Each to their own vibe. Tallinn was my favorite ( Oops my Lithuanian collegues might disagree..) Riga has a beautiful Art Nouveau district! Great vlog! Curious to learn where you guys are going next!
Yep, we live in Latvia, in the 2nd largest city, called Daugavpils, which is 3-hours southeast of Riga, close to the border with Belarus. We're teaching English here in a smaller (70,000 pop.), quieter, and more culturally Russian part of Latvia. After 3-months, we are finding this part of the Baltic States to be quite welcoming, affordable and located in proximity to such great and often ignored places such as Lithuania, Estonia, and even Poland. Yes, you'll need more than 18+ hours in Riga to do it justice...but thanks for a nice tour. You guys have a nice style.
Thanks again! Happy you enjoy. We did a couple videos in Western Poland this year, but so much more to see. We are trying to visit every country in Europe on the blog, and need to get to Lithuania, probably in 2025. The Baltics are not very well know to us Western States folks… lots to learn! ;-)
Love the sparkly nails. Totally missed an opportunity to advertise for the onlyfans channel with the deep fried sausage. 🤣 Thank you as always for another great city tour.
We have In Latvia coffee vending machines italian Lavazza everywhere around country.. It is realy good coffee not like Americana drip coffee.. It is italian style..

Google flights updated the site a while back so you can for the system to only look for long layovers! It’s pretty cool. We did this with our Oslo video earlier this year. Thanks for watching!
Interesting visit... But about Nate's eye.. I hope you don't have such issues more often. If so I'd suggest you go to an Eye Doctor and have your eyes checked properly.. Why? I've had issues for many years and now facing some procedure to help heal my eyes, which I could have prevented by consulting an Eye doctor earlier.. I guess you're on Duch Health Insurance so that won't be a big problem.
Thanks you! Yeah… it got worse as the trip went on… so you know.. THREE more videos with my eyes all messed up. Doctor called allergic type conjunctivitis. Fun. It is all cleared up now, thankfully, but seeing myself while I edit these next videos is rough… 😳😱
@@nateandkatrinadotheworld - so you thought I meant the Katrina in the video? I wouldn't dare to :) The miss spelling was put in there for free association - and Miss Pronunciation needs an occasional tease too.

9:45 It is Cheburek!
Cheburek is from somewhere else in former Soviet Union. Intertwine of cultures is not a bad thing at all.

Great city. Miss it. And the meat pie is CHEBUREK🤤. I would give my ipad for the tasty one)))

What happened to your eye Nate? After dinner you had it
Great video guys 👍❤️
So… it only gets worse in the next few videos. Doctor thinks it was allergic conjunctivitis. So… really and pink eye… It was not fun. 😵💫
Where are you going to?😊
North!
Latvija was founded in 1918. 18. November and rigged independence in 1990. 4. May
Sweet video, love your chemistry! :)
✌️ Thanks for checking our video out!
You did your best! And that is enough. 18.5 hours is not much.
Totally… we have already been discussing a road trip through the country!
