I read Interview every week, or however often it came out. A lot of it was fluff, fashion, colors on the page. But it was the best thing at the time. It was on newsprint, printed in bright colors, maybe the paper was a bit better quality than that. Not glossy. Just a medium-big format and whatever was in it was absolutely new. It was expensive for me, but I had to have it.

Even the studio version, which is one of my favorite pieces of music ever, would be unwanted in this video. And if I was trying to listen to that song I wouldn’t want to be watching or listening to the words of this video. The two just don’t go together. And a lot of people find coal train annoying under any circumstances. I am not one of them. Maybe you are? And if so, that’s your choice.

Lebowitz is an odd character: her reputation rests upon very little output. She's known mostly for two books, Metropolitan Life and Social Studies. Metropolitan Life is better; funnier and sharper than Social Studies. Now I learn that she has written a children's book, which seems oddly appropriate. She talks about having had writer's block for an extended period of time in other interviews. However, she seems to have had time to globe trot sharing her views on myriad topics. She's more raconteur than writer.

On a city street there are certainly many folks attending to their cellphones, but just as many are not. So it's no more accurate to say that everybody on the street is distracted by cellphones than it is to claim that everyone is driving a motor vehicle because the streets are full of them. We're more aware of cellphones because we're more likely to be hearing conversations on them or being jostled by their users. This gives Fran a leg up in the observant field, but not necessarily a monopoly in it.
Life involves getting away from your problems by listening to Fran it works.
