A note to add on the commentary about Plastcrete Catalyst "sucks". A perhaps massively overlooked aspect of the OC is that the AOE damage and size increases by 50% when shooting the platforms. That is a significant amount of extra damage. I really like running all electricity with EM refire booster (all 2's, but can be changed here or there for preference), because it's really good at crowd control and slowing down crowds without giving up your damage or your reliability like EM discharge or micro-conductor. Despite using the same OC as the build in the video, it's practically a completely different weapon. Micro-conducter gives a lot of survivability to engineer imo. It's always been my toughest class to stay alive, but with that overclock, if I'm getting flanked, I run, shoot a plat down and electrify it. Doesn't require that much planning, just shooting plats on the ground and running in circles works beautifully in many missions.
This video was a treat for me, a engi that usually only uses the warthog. Ill give the stubby a try. I hope more videos are like this in the future and that you keep the fish.
Glad Stubby's getting its due diligence with this vid, my favorite Engineer primary with the Micro Conductor buffs. I love how it makes me feel like I'm setting up TF2 stickybomb traps

Oh my... you're work never goes unnoticed or unappreciated. You are the greatest at giving us the weapon content we need. Thank you so much Electric Fish! Well, you too Sniss.
Why nobody is talking about how cool empty mag spins after you drop it!? One of my fav weapon in game. Also always loved your videos - you trully appreciate this game and its details. I hope you make more of them.
Micro Conductor Add-On was what really got me to like the Stubby. I used to only use it for the sake of Weapon Maintenance skins, but now I’ll gladly use it whenever I feel like the opportunity is right.
For Micro Conductor Add-on, I can recommend an alternative: 2-2-2-1-1. This makes the stubby versatile for different situations, and makes the electrified platforms more ammo efficient as the increased electrification chance means less ammo spent to get the arc. I opt for better accuracy (T2) and weak-point damage (T4) to provide utility for flying & distant targets. For T5 I prefer having the mag size back. The build absolutely rocks with Plastcrete Catalyst. I tend to run SSGs with it, mines are overkill. It is worth noting a few extra things about the zappy platforms. 1. they give off a fair bit of light. 2. They really suit a mobile parkour style of play, not just defensive. You opt for more ammo (good for parkour) and as you are hopping between platforms just zap em to electrify which kills/slows anything near you. I often electrify a platform above me when mining to cut back on surprises, you can also ring supply drops and electrify those to give breathing space to dwarfs topping up. Slapping down a couple platforms and electrifying them will bring a detonator to a crawl. Destroying the platforms does not remove the arc, but plastcrete catalyst is also a big AoE & damage buff without necessarily detonating the platform. It's a great build for Salvage and Escort, but also for run & gunning parkour playstyles. As for meeting that Engi that loves the build, pleasure to meet ya. :)
i'm surprised the stubby is hated, or at least has low pickrate. not from the start, but with time it grew on me and it's my go to on engineer. it feels simple and it feels good, and with some overclocks (specially new ones) it can do some funky stuff too! hope more people start loving it with this video. as always, love you sniss :)
I always loved the stubby, especially with exploding turrets. An extremely ammo efficient weapon, capable of both single target, and AOE damage. I had no idea that there were reasons not to like it.
I personally like Em refire with 23222 for CQC, I call it the "thunderclap". Pulse the trigger for long range while you cross your fingers. Also pairs well with "bug grinder", spinning death 12122 for particularly messy engagements. Menaces be damned.
It became my favourite when I used turret em discharge, I can’t get over how efficient the thing is when you use this overclock like I’ll not need a resupply for a HOT minute just because turret go boom now
Don't know if you chose the "coast shot with mountain skyline" at random or how my hometown landed in this video but, always nice to see a slice of home make it to the international stage (Can never mistake the Cape Town skyline for anywhere else)
I gotta say, this converted me. I used the shotgun and occasionally the Lok-1, but never really gave the Stubby much of chance in the last 100 or so hours. But that first build genuinely feels great to use and I think the Stubby is going to be one of my go-to weapons after I get a feel for it. Thank you for letting me see past my greenbeard prejudice.
my main engie loadout with the stubby is em discharge with hyperprop. whatever you can’t kill with the discharge aoe, you probably won’t kill by spraying it with the stubby either, so just hyper prop it.
I've always had a soft spot for the Stubby, so I was happy to see it get some attention in Season 5. I also can NOT believe this Plascrete Catalyst slander, it's one of my favorite OCs.
Came across this vid today and INSTANTLY subbed. Your editing style is so chill and creative plus your voice adds such a lovely vibe to it. Keep it up!!! edit: not to mention the great DRG weapon tips!! Cheers!
Thank you for making this video!! Seeing stuff like this really does make me want to play a wider range of builds, and honestly now I'm going to sit down and make use of the many loadout slots for each class. I definitely have considered making builds for different mission types and I think this is inspiring me to do that.
Hyperalloy Assembly and the reworked Micro-conductor Add-on made me appreciate the stubby way more than in previous seasons. With those I can definitely say that every weapon in the game has a playstyle that I really enjoy and the I can switch between any of them without dreading it.
My favorite for stubby is using em refire booser and specking fully into electricity and firerate, along with feedback loop on the shard diffractor. It just mows down hordes of bugs and can still do some pretty good single target damage, it's my favorite build in the game.
i mainly play engineer in DRG and mostly using the SMG, and i LOVE IT, people might complain it doesn't feel satisfying enough or smth like that, but i love using it all the time with the EMP oc, it just does everything, wants crowd control? EMP. DPS? EMP. wave clear? EMP. longe range threats? SMG normal fire mode lol. Debuffs? STUBBY VOLTAIC SMGGGGGGGGGGG, of course, i like the other primaries, but the voltaic just does so much for so little... it's just the perfect engineer weapon AND oc(althought, i don't think i would be using it that much without the OCs...)
Been using that last build (or at least something similar) for years, one of the best crowd controls on Engi imo as two turrets near one another make such easy bug chunking. Always recommended it to folks whenever they hated on my baby Stubbers.
Didn't even know the stubby was considered bad - I've used the stubby to varying degrees of success. It's just about finding how to make it work efficiently with the right mods, overclocks, and practically using it.
I was very surprised to learn that people dislike the stubby. First friend who said they didn’t like it said it’s because it runs out of ammo too easily. And then I was even more surprised, because with the build I usually run on it (and the other primaries), the stubby was by far the most ammo efficient. Honestly haven’t experimented with my loadouts that use it in a while, so maybe I’ll try one of these.
The two games I have been playing the most in the past couple of months are DRG and SDV. So when I heard the SDV music but saw the DRG graphics my brain melted.
Just tried out an electricity focused build earlier today with the Stubby, I put down a bunch of platforms when a wave is coming, put down two turrets, and when the bugs arrive I shoot the platforms so they shock any bug that steps on them, shoot the bugs a little with the Stubby just for fun, and then I switch to the laser beam secondary (forgot the name of it) and just watch their health bars vanish, it's really satisfying! 😈
Been my favorite Engineer primary practically since I unlocked it - of course, that may also have to do with unlocking EM Refire Booster as my first engi overclock, so it's basically always felt like an awesome little bullet hose to me!
Hyperalloy assembly has caused the Stubby to become my favourite engineer primary. its so consistent. super fun! Build for pure damage. not electricity
before the video even starts, GOD i love the stubby. and i can't wait to learn even more here. it's my favorite primary because of just how CONSISTENT it is compared to the others; it's pretty easily applicable in every scenario comparatively, and it is not bad damage-wise or ammo-wise. with the right builds, like any other DRG gun, it can do its job and more. edit: after watching, i am delighted to see that both build 1 and build 3 are basically what i swap between on this thing, haha
This is my favorite primary for Engi because of one thing, I always fell that all the other weapons don't have enought ammo, so when I tried this weapon I loved it because I never felt that I had too little ammo
This has always been my favorite engineer weapon. My love for SMG’s has existed since the UMP in MW2. Side note I like the editing of the video with the extra fish tips.
Hey sniss, been watching your videos for 2 years now, and you never disappoint. You are seriously one of the most talented variety content creators on youtube right now, and this has only set the bar higher. The Cult of Eric™ approves of this video!
Getiing build tips didn't convince me yet that stubby isn't the worst objectively of the options, but that doesn't mean it's bad. The main appeal for me is that it's fully automatic, meaing you can just spray whatever you like with any build, something the shotgun and lok-1 don't give you so easily. I hope GSG understands that too and doesn't turn any of the other primaries into automatic rifles with little to no difference by making an overclock that makes the gun automatically fire locks and speed it up enough to make the firerate seem pretty fast, because that's just kicking stubby down when it least needs it
Pretty much my second most used Engi weapon. Loki's the first. As for OC I mostly run turret discharge. Makes the gun vary good at locking down choke points or just ignore anything swarmer related

This was my first time learning some people dont like certain weapons in drg, I use and love all of them equally
Oh my... you're work never goes unnoticed or unappreciated. You are the greatest at giving us the weapon content we need. Thank you so much Electric Fish! Well, you too Sniss.
The turret arc overclock rework was a welcome change. Being able to electrify turrets and platforms gives you a lot of options.
Stubby is my favorite Engineer primary.
The Stubby is my favorite Engie primary. I stacked all the ammo mods I could on it, so I barely need to resupply.
Stubby is one of my favorite weapons tho…
I like to slap a clean overlock on it and abuse the electricity bonus.
my main engie loadout with the stubby is em discharge with hyperprop. whatever you can’t kill with the discharge aoe, you probably won’t kill by spraying it with the stubby either, so just hyper prop it.
I've always had a soft spot for the Stubby, so I was happy to see it get some attention in Season 5. I also can NOT believe this Plascrete Catalyst slander, it's one of my favorite OCs.
I’ve always liked the stubby because it’s effectively chain lightning and it makes me happy
I love stubby. Medium to long range consistent damage without the hassle of a loki, more amo efficient and has fun oc’s
Came across this vid today and INSTANTLY subbed. Your editing style is so chill and creative plus your voice adds such a lovely vibe to it. Keep it up!!!
edit: not to mention the great DRG weapon tips!! Cheers!
Stubby and boosted Diffractor is a monster and my favorite combo.
I had no idea that so many people hated the stubby. I’ve been using it for ages and it’s been in of my main engineer load-out for a while now.
With those I can definitely say that every weapon in the game has a playstyle that I really enjoy and the I can switch between any of them without dreading it.
the editing in this is so smooth! very fun vid
Man, you just make really solid videos! Your effort and care shines through, well done
Ever since the rework to one of its overclocks I started using the stubby exclusively. Making platforms into tesla coils is always fun.
THEY DID IT. THEY ACTUALLY MADE THE STUBBY VIDEO
I was very surprised to learn that people dislike the stubby. First friend who said they didn’t like it said it’s because it runs out of ammo too easily. And then I was even more surprised, because with the build I usually run on it (and the other primaries), the stubby was by far the most ammo efficient. Honestly haven’t experimented with my loadouts that use it in a while, so maybe I’ll try one of these.
it's nice to see someone else who injoys the stubby, it deserves a better reputation then what its got IMO.
The two games I have been playing the most in the past couple of months are DRG and SDV. So when I heard the SDV music but saw the DRG graphics my brain melted.
Genuinely surprised by this! The stubby has been my favorite since I started.
It would be really cute to see cartoon stills of sniss to go along with his employee 😊
- Useful info? 👍
- Adorable fish gag 👍👍
- jokes 👍👍👍
- Marimba bing bong noises on nice meditation backgrounds for builds 🥵🙏💯👍👍👍
Been my favorite Engineer primary practically since I unlocked it - of course, that may also have to do with unlocking EM Refire Booster as my first engi overclock, so it's basically always felt like an awesome little bullet hose to me!
Test room green screen test room green screen it’s so good! Amazing title cards : )

Hyperalloy assembly has caused the Stubby to become my favourite engineer primary. its so consistent. super fun!
Build for pure damage. not electricity
the stubby is literally good sometimes you wanna hold the button down at bugs and not think so hard
Space Beach Party may be done for the year but Sniss is still putting out content with Stardew Valley summer music
before the video even starts, GOD i love the stubby. and i can't wait to learn even more here. it's my favorite primary because of just how CONSISTENT it is compared to the others; it's pretty easily applicable in every scenario comparatively, and it is not bad damage-wise or ammo-wise. with the right builds, like any other DRG gun, it can do its job and more.
edit: after watching, i am delighted to see that both build 1 and build 3 are basically what i swap between on this thing, haha
I'm an engineer main and I think I've used the stubby once. I don't even know if it's bad, but the warthog is just so perfect.
Praise be the stubby!
I hope GSG understands that too and doesn't turn any of the other primaries into automatic rifles with little to no difference by making an overclock that makes the gun automatically fire locks and speed it up enough to make the firerate seem pretty fast, because that's just kicking stubby down when it least needs it
Man.. your Video Editing is so Clean and Neat! Great work dude! My life for ROCK AND STONE!
Pretty much my second most used Engi weapon. Loki's the first.
As for OC I mostly run turret discharge. Makes the gun vary good at locking down choke points or just ignore anything swarmer related
