    Hi. I love watching your videos. I would like to see a test between fishing single hookbait pop ups with no feed vs a hookbait with free offerings to create a feeding spot.

    3 things here 1) big loop in the hooklink is for movement with mono you put a sleeve over it 2)a boilie needs to absorb water to release attractors contained in it you are not making it appear as its been in the lake a few days plus u add extra liquid attractant so really you have made it over flavoured as it will already be releasing its own attractors 3) bailiff said 14 wraps but if he isnt stood exactly were u are it will be different he could be a yard further bk or fwd from where u stand

    • @SimonDewCarpFishing
      @SimonDewCarpFishing  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      My three things in response 1) I tie a big loop to help stiffness near the lead and avoid Tangles the movement comes from a quick link on the swivel. 2) I add water to soften the baits as mentioned so it's easier for the carp to break them down and digest in the winter. A lot of this will be smashed by the large number of roach in the lake so the extra flavour is to leave attraction behind even when the solid bait is gone. 3) I've fished this lake before and written down 14 wraps to a spot I found myself with a marker the bailiffs said 14.5 to the far margin but it was slightly choddy on the bottom there and I was getting liners so I brought it back to the spot I'd found previously and caught my fish there. Nothing to do with where you stand as everyone stands at the front of the platform 👍

    I usually do pretty well with corn and pack bait made of old cookies & stale cereal. Experience has taught me that carp eat anything containing junk food, so it’s not necessary to spend much money for bait. I haven’t touched a boilie in many years.

    • @SimonDewCarpFishing
      @SimonDewCarpFishing  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sounds like you're fishing in the USA. It's a little different here where the carp become wise to anglers and you need to use bait that they can't resist 😉

    Modern carp fishing is dominated by bright pop ups , & not just in the winter. Think we are missing a trick not going back to straight bottom baits out of the bag, myself included.

    • @SimonDewCarpFishing
      @SimonDewCarpFishing  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes absolutely mate I've been guilty myself of only using bright baits and there's no reason to think carp won't take a straight out the bag boilie. If they're eating the freebies then they will eat a hook bait that matches for sure!

    • @PaulGSXR
      @PaulGSXR ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm a firm believer of using the same bait on the hook as your freebies. If those carp are going round hoovering up the exact same boilies off the bottom they won't think twice about it when they get to your hookbait. I understand making the hookbait stand out from everything else but I believe that can also have negative effects by making them wary of something different

    Pop ups catch the angler, bottom baits catch the fish

    • @SimonDewCarpFishing

      Both work mate but with everyone using pop ups these days I think bottom baits are an edge 😉

    I've never ever caught on a bright pop-up.
    I have, however, on krill pop-ups, just a dull brown colour.

    • @SimonDewCarpFishing

      They do have their place mate especially in spring. I usually try to fish something more subtle but have caught well on bright pink, orange yellow etc

    • @SimonDewCarpFishing
      @SimonDewCarpFishing  ปีที่แล้ว

      I've had most of my bigger fish on pop ups mate no matter what the bottom is like they do seem to work for the bigger fish but as this video shows bottom baits work to! I'll definitely be using them a bit more this year and perhaps compare results over the whole year 😉

    • @stevenjacobs5246
      @stevenjacobs5246 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SimonDewCarpFishing yeah they have their moments. But I’ve had my best results on bottom baits to be fair. But all lakes are different, that’s what makes it a head scratcher at times lol. But being confident in what you’re doing is the key 👍🏻.

    • @SimonDewCarpFishing
      @SimonDewCarpFishing  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@stevenjacobs5246yep confidence is the most important and the things you are confident in end up being the things you use more and catch on more so sometimes it's hard to tell if something else is better 😜

      @@SimonDewCarpFishing I quite often start with 3 different hookbaits, especially when fishing a new venue. That’s always a good starting point to gauge from. And doing something different from the norm can be good 👍🏻.

  • @JamieVauxnut1
    @JamieVauxnut1 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The result could have nothing to do with a pop up vs bottom bait, could be purely down to colour. Could have made both bright baits or both natural/drab to get a fair result

    • @SimonDewCarpFishing
      @SimonDewCarpFishing  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The whole idea if this test was to see if a bright pop up would out fish a match the hatch bait I may do a similar test with both baits the same colour but I just wanted to see if a bright one got extra bites which it didn't so interesting result really and I'll definitely be fishing match the hatch more often 👌

      @@SimonDewCarpFishing sorry but the title says different so assumed that was the aim, I did actually watch the whole video 😂 it's all speculation, we'll never know what's going on even with underwater. • @SimonDewCarpFishing
      @SimonDewCarpFishing  ปีที่แล้ว

      I've caught plenty of carp on pop ups on clear hard bottom and plenty on bottom baits fished in and around less favourable substrate. I just wanted to see which would get more bites in the winter as lots of people seem to favor pop ups these days since Ronnie rigs came about. Interesting that the bottom bait caught a fish that rarely comes out. Apparently on its 3rd capture in 5 years 🤷🏻‍♂️

    I usually try a rod on each on a new water & see how things progress, pop ups can also work well as singles in the winter but I do feel on pressured waters that bottom baits or wafters always have the edge.

    Hey Simon. I thoroughly enjoy your videos and you seem like a decent sort. However, I have a bit of a beef with Prologic. I bought some ( 3 plus receiver) SMX II bite alarms around 2 years ago and have had a few gripes. One of the original 3 failed after 12 months and days. Asked the retailer ( Angling Direct) about it. No luck. Out of warranty by literally 2 days. Emailed Prologic. No response. Bought a replacement - brand new - failed after 9 months. Emailed Prologic - no response... I have to say, I am a little disappointed with the customer service I have received from your sponsor. I don't want to drop this on you but I can't seem to get a reply from Prologic. Need to up their game IMO. Tight lines. Jason.
