@@BirdKeeperToby once you started talking about how towers and how “we don’t know how the towers got burned down” that’s all I could think about! I was waiting for you to say it lol
If Kamado's hometown *was* related to the Lake of Rage somehow, it would have been a nice homage to the opening of DP given that Barry taking the player to Lake Verity to see a red Gyarados is basically what kickstarts the whole game.
True, it layers that! And it also layers the Hoenn games as Beni (Wally's ancestor) is from the same region as Komado, and in the start of RSEOrAs the player moves to Hoenn from Johto.
As much as I love Platinum, it always disappointed me they changed that opening. Realizing the Sinnoh story is happening at the same time as the Johto story was a jaw drop moment.
Laventon is literally wearing a Nepalese sherpa hat. Hes wearing his culture on his head. His ancestry is definitely from an Indian inspired area. It could be a situation where he has a parent from galar and parent from this unnamed indian region if we assume analogous history with the poke world to our world. Which sort of lines up due to Hokkaido references in hisui
I think looking at Laventons skintone and then at irl british indians tells us what the situation is He or his parents immigrated from the india region to Galar- alot of british indians call India their motherland and that could easily be stretched to 'homeland' like he says in the game
I’m not sure about Ekruteak, but definitely Johto. Beni also seals the deal - Mahogany Town is a town of Ninja. It’s very possible that, even if Beni wasn’t born in Mahogany, that others with his talents made the village.
I mean withought getting to into like the not so great history of it all, The UK and India have always had a lot of connections. Obviously India was a former colony of the British Empire but also here in England we have a lot of people from Indian backgrounds. This can be seen in the Curry Dex in Galar as Curry is traditionally a more Indian food but is also super popular in the UK and is one of (if not the ) most commonly eaten dishes in the UK. This doesn't relate to Kamado much but I do think having Indian things in Galar makes a lot of sense and it is perhaps people from a poential Indian Region that brought Kopperajah to Galar.
I still think Laventon could be from another region. Copperajah isn't native to galar, and it actually doesn't say on the website that he's from Galar. Furthermore, him being the ancestor of Hop and Leon kinda proves nothing about his heritage. Where his ancestors are from probably has nothing to do with where his descendants end up.
@@TheZebbga speaking of stereotypes, do you know where people get the idea that the UK is obsessed with curry? I’ve lived here my whole life and never know a single person who eats curry, nor have I seen a place which serves curry lol.
@@WeebShinobi I have also lived in England my entire life and have the exact opposite experience. I see A LOT of Indian Restaurants around and most of what they serve is curry. It is a popular takeaway food and if you look it up it is one of the most popular foods in the country. Maybe if you live in a Village or a Town and not a City maybe? I can't speculate because I don't know exactly where you are from but it is statistically a fact and not a stereotype.
Now that you mention Sumo and Cianwood city, HGSS expands on the Whirl Islands, saying they used to be a single island that was disputed by 2 countries, causing Lugia to intervene and split the islands by force. There is no specific time period for this event but perhaps Kamado was part of this event, the islands are in the middle of mainland Johto and Cianwood, which seems to be from a different landmass.
It would make sense that he would be either from Cianwood city or Olivine city, seeing as both cities are connected to the sea (Olivine even has a port in modern day Johto) and funnily enough, the secret medicine used in Legends arceus to cure psyduck headache is produced by apothecary in Cianwood, but the request tells you to ask about how to make the medicine in Jubilife city.
Finally, somebody who actually double checked actual dates. I've been saying this game has to be roughly 150 years in the past since the beginning. Thank you Toby.
I kind of just always thought Kamado was from one of the Japan regions because he wears a Kimono and loves sumo. Also the character break very much reminded me of how they handle dialects in anime subs.
Just pointing out, you technically can't get snorlax in johto. Also, you never touch on Beni and Kamado having Japanese names. Laventon, who is specifically not from the same area as Kamado and Beni, has more of an English name, reinforcing the theory he is from Galar. Granted, he (or his family) could have moved from one region to a second before Kamado came to Hisui, but in that is pretty rare today, let alone back then with limited forms of transportation, unless you were one of a specificallynomadic group. Kamado doesn't strike me as being a nomad.
While I'm not fully convinced that the burning of the Brass Tower is the event that destroyed Kamado's village, him being from that area makes sense because they are close to the port areas. The Galaxy Team arrived by sea, which at first glance rules against Johto being where they are from because we already know that Sinnoh and Johto are connected thanks to the Sinjoh Ruins in the HGSS Arceus event. But both maps show an abundance of mountains between the areas.where they would connect, mountains that would be near impossible for a group like then Galaxy Team to pass, so boat would be a better travel option. I think they either first traveled to Cianwood Island or were even from Cianwood. One way or another, they decided this island wouldn't be a good fit for them, either because this is where Kamado's village was destroyed, they had trouble getting resources, or the area was already settled. They knew about the land to the north, so they sailed west from Cianwood curving up north until they found Prelude Beach.
And given Laventon also knows about the Ride Pokémon in Alola, he seems to be well-travelled, so it's not surprising that he's from somewhere else compared to Beni and Kamado.
Since he also has braviary, it's safe to assume he only has pokémon from johto OR hisui. also keep in mind there could have been snorlax in johto 150 years ago, as they're already shown to be rare, they could've died out in a short amount of time
Actually there is a posibility that would make sense for the idea that Kamado went to a diffrent region before. He was a refugee. Lets go with the idea that he is from Johto (Personally I think it's likely Johto and Kanto were one region at the time to be honest but that's not the point), if Johto had business relations with Galar at the time and there was war or some sort of calamity (Like a bunch of Pokemon suddenly attacking villages) Galar temporarily taking these people in as refuges would make sense. It would also explain how the Galaxy operation even got founded. It wouldn't make sense for the same region that can't rebuilt or rehome people after a pokemon attack to be able to afford a colonial operation to that scale. It also would explain why Cyleen and Laventon seem to be the next ones in the official chain of comand, they both have somewhat english names implying they are most likely from Galar.
@@safidraws I agree, but the team hierarchy doesn't work as you described at the end; Commander Kamado oversees the whole thing. Beni acts as his secret right hand. Cyllene, Tao Hua, Zisu, etc. are the captains of their branches (corps) Laventon works under Cyllene as the only professor, part of the survey corps.
Mahogany Town, which is located near Ecruteak City, is "a hiding place for ninjas" and the only ninjas in pokémon are Koga, Janine and Beni who and Kamado are from the same village. Even more connections to Jonto.
Thank you for reevaluating your theory and correcting yourself instead of just doubling down and insisting that Kamado was from Galar when there were far more signs that hinted he and Beni were from Johto originally. I’m not sure if Ekruteak would have been their former home, though, since I always thought the lightning that hit the tower was a natural occurrence rather than the work of a Pokémon, and it seems like only the Brass Tower was damaged, for the most part.
I think one very apparent thing that points to Komado being from well...a japanese village, is the fact that he has a japanese name and Beni is very clearly a Ninja and there is a Ninja themed Gym in Kanto, just one region over. I don't really buy the time frame to be just 150 years, it just doesn't really make sense to me considering the amount of terra forming there had to take place for modern Sinnoh to even remotely look that way. It's also to note that he specifically stated a pokemon destroyed his town. While some retellings of the myth say Lugia caused the storm, I doubt that's something the people at the time would have been privie to. I think it's more likely that it simply was a angry pokemon that reacked havoke in the village, perhaps after it's habitat got destroyed. Also I think a war being involved still holds up. In X and Y we learn about two canonical wars that Kalos participated in. One that took place 3000 years ago and one that took place 300 years ago. I think it could very well be that Johto and Kanto were involved in the later due to business relation's with Galar which was most likely also involved in said war. It's also not likely that Komado immediately went to Hisui to built a new home either. What I think probably happened was that he and Beni became refuges in Galar where they served in the military and Komado after the war got married. I personally don't think it makes much sense that he lost his wife, because 1. why wouldn't Beni mention that, litereally this game has not been shy about stuff like this and 2. Not only do we not see his wife, we also don't see his kids in the village, he's a direct ancestor of professor Rowan so he needs to have had a child at one point. He seems to be already in his late 30 to early 40 and I don't think he would be the type to remarry very soon after losing his wife. I think it's most likely that his wife is in Galar, probably set to join him once things are more stable. Maybe she even has a newborn child and therefore it's too dangerous for her to join him in Hisui until said is older. There don't seem to be any babies in the village, not even any mentions of any. Granted that could be because they didn't want to make any models for them, but that's still a interesting thought.
This makes so much sense!! Thanks for another super plausible theory Toby! Been working on my first pokemon theory for a while now, about connections between Johto and Sinnoh, and with all this new info from Legends Arceus now just might be the time to explore that finally...
I changed my mind! BTW This time tomorrow I'm gonna be live over on Twitch for the Pokemon day announcment at 1PM GMT :D So come hang out, I'll also be doing my first Legends Arceus challenge run :D
What exactly do you mean by this comment? Did you change again meaning you don't agree with this video or are you just saying you originally thought he was from galar and now you don't?
Btw lavantan could be from an Indian region as we don't know how many years if it's 100 years or less then he could be from galar (as cooperaja arrived in galar 100 years before the galar games) But if it's before 100 years then he's definitely from an Indian or other Asian region.
As someone who vehemently believed he was from the Lake of Rage... Yeah laventon's word choice definitely debunks that idea lol. Even if they were trying to allude to that without getting too explicit, then they wouldn't have said "ancient texts." Unless Laventon is a liar, which he doesn't strike me as. Unlike Prof. Oak. I don't trust him.
"His home was burned down by an enraged pokemon" If he's from Johto, didn't the tower in Ecruteak City containing Suicune, Entie and Raikou get burned down by a bolt of lightning?
Ecruteak City is still around and only the burned tower was destroyed during that storm or attack, possibly Lugia flying to whirl Islands to not destroy stuff well flying over and destroyed the tower, regardless It's probably the lake of rage, there was a town before garados destroyed it in a fit of rage.
@@Justic_ None of raikou's dex entries mention that its an embodiment of the lightning that struck the tower, it only mentions that it's "said to have descended from lightning", which sounds more like a folk legend than lore.
@@Justic_ Hm. That might just be fan speculation, mistakenly added to the wiki. Unless we can find a source. This is a little irrelevant though, since Thunder is a move that pokemon can learn.
But what pokemon destroyed Kamado's home village? I think the key to solving this mystery is Pokedex - or its dex entries about Gyarados, the most ferociously violent Pokemon. These entries tells us how, in the ancient times, one huge and vicious Gyarados enraged and rampaged for months. It annihilating entire city, destroying all with hot Hyper Beams and turning everything to ashes - until it had demolished everything around it and left only blazing ruins in its wake. And any place where Gyarados appears is fated for doomed and therefore people call it as “the deity of destruction.” And then the another thing. The ghost girl - who gives us the Odd Keystone - tells us that Spiritomb was first sealed years (note the plural) ago and our job is to sealed it again. So, in PLA, we are not sealing Spiritomb for first time in history as some fans suspect.
When you mentioned Johto, I immediately remembered that anime/manga often localize kansaiben with southern accents or thuggish/rude accents, like Joey Wheeler from Yu-Gi-Oh who doesn't use honorifics at all and was given a Brooklyn accent. Kamado could be from Kyoto (Ekruteak City) and thus speaks with Kansaiben, but became a samurai, moved to Edo (Saffron CIty) and got married but tragically lost everything to a rampaging Pokémon as stated by Beni. It doesn't need to be a Gyarados but it could still be if Kamado had confided it in Laventon and didn't want everyone knowing his past. Fuchsia City is close to Saffron City and ninjas were often hired by the samurai as spies or assassins.
@CP D2191 I don't know, just stating the fact that in the Galarian Armour, Kamado looks like he could be a samurai. Ninjas are a staple in the games already whether it be the ninja kid trainer class or Koga and Janine referring to themselves as ninjas and using techniques to confuse and poison your team. Assassination. The move Night Slash is based on a ninja technique in which they would hide on the side of the road and slash a passerby with a new blade to test it. The only place time the context is hidden is with localisation.
Hmm, I think the dead give away about Kamado true origin. It is the kimono. He’s the only character who where outfit in a traditional of the outfit. Jhoto and Kalos are the only region where it the fashion in style. But if I could use a slight grasping… In Pokémon Master during the New Years event the two characters who kimono were me and Lance. Look that inspired by kimono in actually Jhoto.
Another evidence might be in Pokemon Masters. In the new year event in 2021, Lance and Lilie get traditional johtonian kimonos. Lilie get her from Lance, but his was from his hometown. On this kimono we can see Gyarados, and overall style of this outfit resembles Komado's outfit.
The brass tower was not burnt down from a war. It was from a bolt of lightning, it is shown by the fact of the 3 beasts ho-oh resurrected. Raikou is to symbolise the lightning that hit the tower, Entei is to symbolise the fire that raged and Suicune is to symbolise the rain that put it out
I agree about Johto mainly because of Beni, the only region that makes sense for both Beni and Kamado is Johto You could argue Hoenn or Johto for Beni, and Galar or Johto for Kamado, and we know they are from the same town
Laventon having dark skin and being from Galar doesn’t connect him to Hop/Leon. If you look at the concept art for Laventon (which includes an image of him without his hat), his hair doesn’t match either of theirs in either color or style. There is also no information on the website to suggest this proposed connection. How can we be sure that the town mentioned in Gyarados's dex entry in PLA is referring to the Lake of Rage? Gyarados could have rampaged before then as well. The Burned Tower was struck by lightning during a storm. Unless a wild Pokémon kicked up a storm or struck it with that lightning, it was a natural cause. Plus, Tin Tower was still standing; Ecruteak as a whole was not destroyed. As such, I think it’s safe to assume this was not the event that led to Kamado and Beni having such grief. If they are from Ecruteak, it’s due to a completely separate event.
I always thought that Laventon facial features resembled Iris more than they do Hop/Leon. The only problem with that is Laventon seems too meek to be a part of the Dragon Clans
I don't understand the theory of Laverton being a ancestor of Leon/Hop, other than skin colour they have no similarities. While Leon/Hop are hardly the only characters with a darker skin tone in Galar.
Just because the armor look and come from Galar, and speak more regular English. Doesn’t mean he’s Galarian. He’s probably from Jhoto, it makes alot sense because even in Alola people from Kanto and Jhoto went the region too. And thought the entire game people from Kanto came to Hishi, Kanto and Jhoto are connected to literally each other only…
Dude your prolly like my favorite TH-camr period now Toby thanks for addressing the professor leventin thing and I actually straight up agree about kommado
His wife is from Galar. He got the armor from his wife's family. It's a momento and wedding gift. A common thing in medieval and renaissance wedding gifts.
I just figured that their home is where the Lake of Rage is. Especially when they explicitly talk about a rampaging Pokémon destroying their home, and Gyarados' Dex entries having talked about destroying villages in rampages for years now.
I really liked the idea here but I wanted to point something out about the kimono! The Golduck on the front is based on the Japanese kappa, and guess what kappa love to do? SUMO WRESTLE! Ps I think you should do a video on time travel in Pokemon in general.
There is one problem with that He only has Pokemon from Johto except for Braviary. Snorlax, Heracross and Clefable are all catchable in Galar and Kalos as well.
Not sure. What could the sinjoh ruins bring is for extra content (except for when it's a really small part of DLC.) I don't think it could be a full DLC of just sinjoh ruins
@@jamie36 You must have missed it but one of the old verses/poems (most likely written by Cogita) say Sinjoh is a land, so it's likely it's own region, which we didn't think till recently.
everything in your theory about kamado coming from Ecruteak City makes sense, except one bit. beni says their town was burned to the ground specifically by rampaging pokemon, not the burning Brass Tower.
5:18 Toby? I think you inadvertently discovered another descendant of Komado’s besides Prof. Rowan… Edit: It’s very nice to see you again, Ruin! I’ve recently been thinking about the Oblivia Region from Ranger 3, with Ho-Oh, Rasp Cavern’s Trials, The Armors, Grisceous Orb (in the DLC mission), The Past Missions, and the Sky Fortress (AZ’s Ultimate Weapon, eat your heart out. This was Pokemon’s *first* real superweapon). Turns out earlier Pokemon Regions that aren’t a Generation’s Main Region could provide more conmections that any of us could predict. With the Kimono Girls and Draconids possibly being in the Fiore Region at some point, maybe the Sevii Isles and other Ranger Regions could have more potential materials to further speculation amid the Pokemon Community.
0:07 I never thought that. I'm pretty sure Laventon is the only Galarian on the team. His emblem while clearly being a depiction of the Arceus symbol and the three Lake Guardians, appears to be a reference to the real-life 3 dragon scale emblem of the Hojo clan. This lines up fairly well with the evidence considering that the Johto region is based on Kansai which was where the Hojo clan held influence up to the Meiji restoration when power was centralized in Tokyo.
I think you're wrong. Laventon is Literally saying "My homeland". Its possible that he is from india, but moved to the UK at somepoint in his life or that his family is originally from there and he was born in the UK. Copperajah is an indain pokemon confirmed by the Raichu dex entries. Considering this is a few hundred years in the past i think its safe to assume somewhere between legends arceus and SwSh that copperajah and its preevolution were brought over to the Uk and now they're native there or at least a sizable amount exist in that region.
Glad to see I'm not the only one who considered the possibility that Commander Kamado is from the town that once stood where the Lake of Rage is. Your evidence makes a lot of sense though!
This was excellent and - no offense, Bird Keeper Toby! - clearly a Ruin Maniac Files theory. The amount of research done between games is staggering. Bird Keeper Toby is a very close 2nd place in his research for theories, but no one can touch The Ruin Maniac Files. Also, his editing is hilarious. I really hope he posts some new theory videos soon. They change the way I view the story of Pokemon
lavantan could be from an Indian region as we don't know how many years if it's 100 years or less then he could be from galar (as cooperaja arrived in galar 100 years before the galar games) But if it's before 100 years then he's definitely from an Indian or other Asian region.
I don't think you're quite right, but I think you're definitely close Beni and Kamado are definitely from Johto based on essentially everything you said, especially the Pokeballs. My theory is that the town they're from, just doesn't exist in the modern day, hell it no longer exists as of the ending of Arceus. Where in Johto it was, I couldn't say, but my personal theory is that there was a war between Kanto and Johto, which resulted in casualties for both sides, destroying towns and lives, including Kamado's wife seen in a picture on his desk, which caused the survivors to see no option but to flee the region, lest Kanto would destroy their villages again. They travel north to a region talked of in rumours, a region with deep connections to Johto, referred to as Hisui. (I'm referencing the Sinjoh ruins here) On their journey north, they start figuring out how they'll handle their new life, and create the Galaxy Team, and Laventon becomes aware somehow, asks to join as a researcher (or is asked maybe? I personally think Laventon is an experienced researcher who travels a lot, but just sucks at getting close to Pokemon. Being from Galar, he wouldn't have as much knowledge as Johto-born characters, thus pokeballs are even newer to him than Kamado, and regions like Unova, being America, just haven't had the technology shipped over yet) Upon reaching where they decide to settle and research, Kamado attempts to seal away his past, hence not seeing the armour and speaking in a more "neutral" dialect, and news of the new civilisation starts to spread back to Johto, and even Kanto (such as the clefairy quest guy), Alola (from the A-Vulpix quest), and possibly even Hoenn, Galar beyond Laventon, and Kalos. I think Unovans are too up themselves at this point in time to come over, since NY to Hokkaido is a pretty long trip, might as well just travel their own massive country. With the creation of the Origin Ball, Pokeball technology starts to evolve further than the apricorn style seen in this game. More modern technologies are created and intergrated, making harder to make by hand balls, eventually only highly skilled craftsmen like Kurt can do it, otherwise you need mass produced balls from Silph, Devon, or whatever the company in Kalos was called (did they get a name?). The reason the Origin Ball sparks it, is the concept of "what other materials can pokeballs be made of" But yeah, that's more or less what I'm seeing so far, excited to see more, and perhaps even learn more about other regions yet to be seen, like Copperajah's homeland referenced in SwSh (which is seperate from Laventon's homeland where Copperajah reside)
What if he is from the town that got destroyed by arceus in the movie arceus and the jewel of life. He looks like Damos from the movie and The movie has many parallels with the game raging arceus(alpha pokemon)/ancestors/time travel/space time destortions AND THE ENDING IS THE CHARACTERS LOOKING AT THE SUNSET JUST LIKE IN DAYBREAK
I think, assuming that Copperajah is a Galar Pokémon is a mistake. As we had both introduced before and after have different homelands than were they first appeared. Think the Bellsprout tower in Gen 2, or all the Dark types in the Kanto region. Likely Copperajah was imported to Galar during its Colonization period. Its also mad to assume that every character is a direct link to a current character. Instead they may just share a past ancestor. Example of this outside Laventon is Beni. Alot of people immediately got Wally but for me I saw Aaron of Sinnoh E4. Or how many get May from Palina, but I get Glacia. Then there is Gaeric whom looks closer to Brawley original design before they gave him a beach tan like Marlin.
He could have been from Jhoto originally then went to Galar where he got his armor. Then his village burned down causing him and everyone he met there to go to the Hisui Region. It would link up with your other theory. I just can’t see him moving due to the tower being burnt maybe he moved to Galar when he met his wife? Could explain the picture looking so formal and the armor being a gift?
@Dojo Breaker why are you commenting this on so many replies, and from two different accounts? Your theory is plausible. But, it is honestly just too cheap to really seem like something GF would come up with. You also keep mentioning "it says a lot about his character" Buy, Kamado has shown he is a very respectable figure. He only banishes you from the town because of his fear that someone he has given agency to has brought about a calamity that could kill everyone he is supposed to protect. Then when he is proven wrong he shows you respect and asks for his forgiveness in a way to show exactly how humiliated he is. His character is extremely strong and absolutely in no way a facade. Beni as a ninja wouldn't have followed some lowly farmer across the ocean and just watch him run everything.

What if that old man is the commander and he time travels when the main character tells him about his hometown being in the future so he goes to finish out his life in his hometown with the help of the main characters dialga
I've got a theory that Legends Arceus came about because they were going to make Sword and Shield like this, they couldnt quite finish the engine/machanics in time and ended up using Sun and Moons engine on Switch for Sword and Shield instead because they wouldnt get the game out in time. Alot of the houses in Legends look quite Galarian but touched up to be Hisuin and the Galarian Weezing would have been added to this town early days and they just rolled with it. This explains Legends Arceus coming out pretty soon after and only having one town area, its a beautifully made Sword and Shield beta, touched with with a great story. Then when they finally got the hang of the engine and assetts they were excited to reveal Gen 9 in this style and that's why we got it so soon.
The Darkest Day happened 3000 years ago, Pokémon Legends Arceus take at a maximum of 300 years in the past, Kamado's grand grandfather wasn't even born when the Darkest Day happen.
In the real world, Japan was obsessed with adopting western culture after the Meiji period to project to the world stage that Japan was a modern country. They adopted western fashion, architecture, music, everything. This is also the time where the caste system is abolished. It's not a stretch to imagine that, prior to being a commander, Kamado was a lowly farmer who finally got the chance to live up to his full potential and to project authority and modernity, he adopted a persona that combined attributes of both traditional Japan and The West. Anything to make him look like a Rennaisance man. Which says a lot about Kamado's character! Which I think is neat. I'm glad you made this video, Toby, this is a detail that not many people would have been able to appreciate without someone with a big stage announcing it. So, to recap, ironically, any evidence that someone could be from Galar or Unova in Legends: Arceus is more than likely just a reference to Japanese obsession with westernizing themselves. Unless someone specifically says they are from Galar and/or specifically has a Bri'ish name, assume that they're actually just from the Japan regions.
Maybe at some point after the canon of Legends: Arceus, Komado is sucked into a space-time distortion and transported to the G/S/C/HG/SS period, and resides in Ecruteak city for nostalgic reasons, and has just kind of been living out the rest of his days in his new home. Also his team can be closely linked to Ecruteak city. Geodude can be commonly found in Mt. Mortar, slightly east of the city. Ecruteak has connections with the sky in the 2 towers, and according to the Pokédex Clefairy fell from the sky. Heracross appears from headbutt on route 42, the route directly east of Ecruteak. Hisuian Braviary is a Psychic and Flying type Pokémon, identical in typing to Lugia, which the Brass tower was built to worship. Snorlax, when you beat it, "lets off a big yawn and returns to the mountains", meaning theres a possibility it lives somewhere in Mt. Mortar, though not specified in the games.
Johto’s Pokémon work pretty well for being the reason someone needs to find a new home bc the Pseudo of Johto is Tyranitar and it literally says after a Ttar rampages that maps must be redrawn afterwards.
I am SO glad a big name theorist is finally putting to bed that Kamado is Galarian. like, the number of people who look at this jet black haired, kimono-wearing and Japanese-name-having man (as well as the Literal Ninja also with a very Japanese name) and insist he's actually a white/western dude. like, really? half of this game is about people traveling to the Hisui region from other places and yet some people really be acting like he too couldn't have started in a different region, as if you can only move countries once. I think the real story is that he started in Johto, likely with Beni, and then together moved to Galar, where Kamado met his wife (noted by what looks like a wedding photo on his desk which is in western clothing), and it's a town there that was destroyed by raging pokemon (likely dynamaxed pokemon, and likely that ruins leading up to the snowy city that had the arceus plate and no other explanation on what happened or why it was there) where he also lost his wife, and so he has now made it his life's mission to make a safe town where no one has to fear for their lives from pokemon, where no one has to suffer loss like he did. plus, another sign that having that armor doesn't inherently make you Galarian is that we know it from Wikstrom, who tells us his family through and through is 100% Kalosian, and so is his armor, which is a family heirloom. one or the other (or both) could be mistaken about the origins of their armor, or it could be a retcon. but I don't think the lorekeepers at gamefreak would do that. I think there's more to it than just "everyone's actually Galarian". I find that idea to be super lazy tbph, and I'm so happy to finally see someone looking more into it instead of jumping to very weird conclusions.
I never really thought that Kamado was from Galar; his form of dress always gave me the impression that he was Japanese. I've suspected that the Galarian armor was possibly part of the dowry from his wife. The picture on Kamado's desk also has him in what looks like a suit with who I'm guessing is his wife. If his wife/her family was from Galar, that would make sense why he has the armor (and wearing a suit in the photo) even if he isn't from Galar himself. If Legends Arceus takes place roughly 150 years ago, it would make sense based off real world history, too. Japan had cut itself off from the rest of the world for around 200 years before re-opening its borders in the 1850s.
While playing the game I somehow got it in my head that Kamado was from Johto. Idk what gave me that idea but that kinda became my own head canon. It’s cool to see that there’s evidence to support it!
My headcanon is that Laventon is an immigrant to Galar from the India region, so he considers India his homeland but has all the other hints to being Galarian. Kammodo also moving to Galar, where it gets his armor and befriends the non-Galaran in say Hammerlocke makes sense. Then when he returns to Johto/Ransei and is given a commission to colonize Hisui, he invites his friend to join him as a Galarian advisor. (Japan used a lot of European advisors in their industrialization)
I like the version of the Brass Tower destruction story where the storm starts the fire, because that lines up with the idea that Entei, Raiko and Suicune represent the three aspects of the tower's destruction; the lightning that started the fire, the fire itself, and the rain water that eventually put the fire out.
What I find interesting/irritating depending on the day is that legends arceus makes pokeballs with only one kind of apricorn but various minerals, where as from what we knew the apricorn colour was the important part of what type of pokeball it was, also, revives are a sort of amber/ resin? That have nothing to do with revival herbs?
Regarding the apricorn balls, it could be that only brown apricorns grew in hisui and the various tumblestones provided weight (or lack thereof) and nothing more. If I remember correctly, Kurt's balls were more modernised, fitting the apricorn with the technology needed to sync with the PC while retaining the desired effect. That may also be why the effect of the original heavy ball changed between 120-140 years ago and 22 years ago, the black tumblestones were replaced with BLK Apricorn
4:38 That could literally be from his job as a Gym leader, A highly respected role in the pokemon world that allows people to challenge the upper levels of trainers aka the elite four then the champion. He's likely pretty famous being a gym leader hence a autograph unless there's more hints in pokemon masters since I don't play it.
I still think it was at the Lake of Rage. I am currently playing Pokemon Crystal. One of the Scientists states that the Rocket HQ in Mahogany Town was originally a ninja hideout. Being in close proximity to the Lake of Rage and being some of the only evidence of ninjas in Johto makes me think there has to be a cleaner connection. Plus there's nothing in the Pokemon canon that says an event can't happen multiple times in history. Gyarados are very hostile and could have destroyed more than just their village in the past But these are just some thoughts.
i personally like to think that laventon came from copperajah’s original homeland since copperajah’s pokédex says the galarian forms traveled to galar long ago
I don't necessarily think Surge is an actor. I think Surge is legitimately an American serviceman. Military personnel. I guess that makes him from Unova??? Idk. But I say this because the real life Kanto region in Japan is home to huuuuuuuuuuuge American military bases, and when the servicemen go out into the country they stick out like sore thumbs. And also because in the Japanese version of lets go, Surge speaks in this broken half English half Japanese type of language. Like. Bro is an American.
I always thought he was from kanto, given that many of those that traveled with him have/had or knew of kanto pokemon. The biggest example to me is the bandit sister, charm, who likely came from the galaxy team unlike the other two, as they incorperate parts of the other clans in their clothing. Charm also has two kanto pokemon that link her to both agatha from kanto's elite 4 (gengar) and bertha from sinnoh's (rhydon). But being that kanto and johto are so close historically, it would make sense if she came from either region and kamado came from johto.
I have a theory in regards to Legends Arceus DLC: Beni will move to Hoenn and send back the missing Sinnoh pokemon and possible people that can be found in the Hoenn region. Then we'll find an ancestor of Roark and Steven Stone among them.
Maybe kamado and his wife were originally from Galar but moved to Johto like a lot of military families do... and he loved the region and culture so much that they stayed after his service was up... and then the fire in the tower happened and they traveled north to Hisui... The main clue to him being originally from Galar is the way his wife is dressed in the photo, looks like the Victorian style of the UK... which would also explain where he would have met and connected with Laventon, because after settling in the Hisui region he would have traveled back to Galar to inform his wife's family of her death and met Laventon and the Galarian people that came back to Hisui with him.
Pretty sure the Brass Tower burned down because of a lightning strike, not from a war (unless a Pokemon somewhere used Thunder and tragically missed). But I'm with the theory that Kamado is from _somewhere_ in Johto. Mind you not all the towns and cities would've existed that far back in time.
Similar to how in Gen 2, we had to give Kurt a black apricorn for ultra balls or a pink one for the love balls… I was disappointed we only got a generic apricorn to use to create all the balls on Arceus.
Imagine in an Legends Jhoto you reaserch with Kurt's ancestor to develope the pokeball and through out the story he comes up with new stronger designs.
Laventon is most likely from a region based off of India, since in sword, Copperajah's pokedex entry says they came from another region long ago. I think Laventon went to Galar before going to Hisui.
Something I think you should be aware of, Toby, is that Beni's use of the word 'comrades' may not actually be meant in the militaristic sense. While I don't know the original script in Japanese, I have the feeling he used the word 'nakama', which has no official English translation. Instead, it's often translated as 'friend', 'ally', or 'comrade', depending on context.
Hurry! He's being kept at Estadio Monumental Antonio Vespucio Liberti in Buenos Aires, Argentina! If we act quick we can put a stop to Team Snooze and Toby's sinister shenanigans! He's somewhere in the stadium!
Isn’t there magikarp on the galaxy headquarters building built into the architecture? I think I remember there being dialogue about specifically choosing it over Gyarados for the architecture but I could be misremembering.
His character break when he starts talking in a different dialect reminds me how dialects are usually handled in dubs. A character with a Southern Japanese dialect in the original gets a Cockney or Texan dialect in the dub.
In the Japanese version, he sometimes speaks in a Kansai dialect. In the Korean version, he speaks in a non-standard Korean accent at times too. I think that the original game wanted to hint at just being from "elsewhere" and then every subsequent version (including the English translation) needed to change his dialogue to a non-standard dialect in the translated language.
What if the brass tower got burned down from Arceus thunder when we get sent back in the next legends : Johto? ?!?!!
Woahhhhhhhh! Omg I hadn’t thought of that but that’s actually wild!
@@BirdKeeperToby once you started talking about how towers and how “we don’t know how the towers got burned down” that’s all I could think about! I was waiting for you to say it lol
Do you speak of the same lightning that made all the nobles frenzied?
@@yeetboy8671 from the same source yes, arceus.
@@midlowhigh I thought Giratina was the one who made the lightnings because it got banished by Arceus
I think looking at Laventons skintone and then at irl british indians tells us what the situation is
He or his parents immigrated from the india region to Galar- alot of british indians call India their motherland and that could easily be stretched to 'homeland' like he says in the game
England is not known for its food, that's for sure
@@itsnotajokeitsahazard8700 That is indeed the stereotype.
Aw thanks ^_^
I kind of just always thought Kamado was from one of the Japan regions because he wears a Kimono and loves sumo. Also the character break very much reminded me of how they handle dialects in anime subs.
Yup. The dialect is Kansai, right? Kind of seen by the Japanese as the equivalent to Hillbilly/Southern Hick?
@@safidraws I agree, but the team hierarchy doesn't work as you described at the end;
Commander Kamado oversees the whole thing.
Beni acts as his secret right hand.
Cyllene, Tao Hua, Zisu, etc. are the captains of their branches (corps)
Laventon works under Cyllene as the only professor, part of the survey corps.
Head Theory: Whenever your character challenges Kamado in the Post Game, they just sit there for about an hour and wait while he puts his armor on🤣.
The old man in Ecruteak did't say he wintessed The Event, he said he saw a big winged pokemon. Maybe he just saw Lugia/Ho-Oh casually flying by.
oh trueeee
Between that old man and Drayden, I think maybe humans in the Pokemon universe can live to be over 200 years old?
Mahogany Town, which is located near Ecruteak City, is "a hiding place for ninjas" and the only ninjas in pokémon are Koga, Janine and Beni who and Kamado are from the same village. Even more connections to Jonto.
Johto and Sinnoh are super connected, its so cool. From the Arceus lore to the humans…love it! And his kimono is kinda gold and silver itself
Aw thank you :D
I changed my mind! BTW This time tomorrow I'm gonna be live over on Twitch for the Pokemon day announcment at 1PM GMT :D So come hang out, I'll also be doing my first Legends Arceus challenge run :D
What exactly do you mean by this comment? Did you change again meaning you don't agree with this video or are you just saying you originally thought he was from galar and now you don't?
Btw lavantan could be from an Indian region as we don't know how many years if it's 100 years or less then he could be from galar (as cooperaja arrived in galar 100 years before the galar games)
But if it's before 100 years then he's definitely from an Indian or other Asian region.
"His home was burned down by an enraged pokemon"
If he's from Johto, didn't the tower in Ecruteak City containing Suicune, Entie and Raikou get burned down by a bolt of lightning?
Ecruteak City is still around and only the burned tower was destroyed during that storm or attack, possibly Lugia flying to whirl Islands to not destroy stuff well flying over and destroyed the tower, regardless It's probably the lake of rage, there was a town before garados destroyed it in a fit of rage.
did you guys watch the video?
@@Justic_ None of raikou's dex entries mention that its an embodiment of the lightning that struck the tower, it only mentions that it's "said to have descended from lightning", which sounds more like a folk legend than lore.
@@Justic_ Hm. That might just be fan speculation, mistakenly added to the wiki. Unless we can find a source.
This is a little irrelevant though, since Thunder is a move that pokemon can learn.
@@Justic_ Interesting.
And any place where Gyarados appears is fated for doomed and therefore people call it as “the deity of destruction.”
And then the another thing.
But if I could use a slight grasping…
In Pokémon Master during the New Years event the two characters who kimono were me and Lance.
As Japan was in the process of industrialization at the time, dressing up in European style of clothing (armour in this case) is not uncommon at all
The brass tower was not burnt down from a war. It was from a bolt of lightning, it is shown by the fact of the 3 beasts ho-oh resurrected. Raikou is to symbolise the lightning that hit the tower, Entei is to symbolise the fire that raged and Suicune is to symbolise the rain that put it out
I agree about Johto mainly because of Beni, the only region that makes sense for both Beni and Kamado is Johto
You could argue Hoenn or Johto for Beni, and Galar or Johto for Kamado, and we know they are from the same town
@@crimsonemperor2219 Iris is Hop & Leon's cousin according to Pokémon Masters.

Kamado is from Johto. Change my mind.
Yeah, this sounds like a possibility
I was thinking he was from the Lake of Rage
But, a war in Johto might make sense
I have one counter argument. :P They said in the game that his town was destroyed by a rampaging pokemon, not a war.
Probably lugia or ho-oh
It was the accent thing that made me think he was from Johto.
Shoutout to the Yakuza franchise.
His wife is from Galar. He got the armor from his wife's family. It's a momento and wedding gift. A common thing in medieval and renaissance wedding gifts.
Guys the coordinates that Ruin gave are for a stadium in Buenos Aires. WE'RE COMING, DUDE!
9:49 Laventon didn’t own any of the starters until you captured them. You catch them in normal Poké Balls, not their home balls.
Plus, Beni is a ninja, and two modern-day ninja, Koga and Janine, are from the Johto region!
Those are some interesting co-ordinates at 1:37. I'm at a loss as to how it links to Pokemon though.
You can find them all in Hisui too, so...

everything in your theory about kamado coming from Ecruteak City makes sense, except one bit. beni says their town was burned to the ground specifically by rampaging pokemon, not the burning Brass Tower.
Maybe the town burned too? Just cause they didn't rebuild the tower doesn't mean the town wasn't rebuilt
Lake of Rage makes more sense. There was a town there that got destroyed by Gyarados.
And during that incident only the tower was burned, and was caused by a lightning from a storm, not Pokémon.
Porygon has never been so ominous
5:18 Toby? I think you inadvertently discovered another descendant of Komado’s besides Prof. Rowan…
Edit: It’s very nice to see you again, Ruin!
Nah Laventon is Galarian.
In an Alternate Universe is a person called Bear Keeper Toby, he's so popular Game Freak personally ask him to help promote Pokémon Adverts!
They change the way I view the story of Pokemon
lavantan could be from an Indian region as we don't know how many years if it's 100 years or less then he could be from galar (as cooperaja arrived in galar 100 years before the galar games)
But if it's before 100 years then he's definitely from an Indian or other Asian region.
I don't think you're quite right, but I think you're definitely close
Beni and Kamado are definitely from Johto based on essentially everything you said, especially the Pokeballs. (I'm referencing the Sinjoh ruins here)
On their journey north, they start figuring out how they'll handle their new life, and create the Galaxy Team, and Laventon becomes aware somehow, asks to join as a researcher (or is asked maybe? I personally think Laventon is an experienced researcher who travels a lot, but just sucks at getting close to Pokemon. Being from Galar, he wouldn't have as much knowledge as Johto-born characters, thus pokeballs are even newer to him than Kamado, and regions like Unova, being America, just haven't had the technology shipped over yet)
Upon reaching where they decide to settle and research, Kamado attempts to seal away his past, hence not seeing the armour and speaking in a more "neutral" dialect, and news of the new civilisation starts to spread back to Johto, and even Kanto (such as the clefairy quest guy), Alola (from the A-Vulpix quest), and possibly even Hoenn, Galar beyond Laventon, and Kalos.
The reason the Origin Ball sparks it, is the concept of "what other materials can pokeballs be made of"
But yeah, that's more or less what I'm seeing so far, excited to see more, and perhaps even learn more about other regions yet to be seen, like Copperajah's homeland referenced in SwSh (which is seperate from Laventon's homeland where Copperajah reside)
great job on this video bro
What if he is from the town that got destroyed by arceus in the movie arceus and the jewel of life. He looks like Damos from the movie and The movie has many parallels with the game raging arceus(alpha pokemon)/ancestors/time travel/space time destortions AND THE ENDING IS THE CHARACTERS LOOKING AT THE SUNSET JUST LIKE IN DAYBREAK
"YA DUNCE" is a mood
PSA: Don't sleep on Ruin Maniac Files. Some of the best longform videos on Pokémon and they are criminally underviewed.
You also keep mentioning "it says a lot about his character"
Buy, Kamado has shown he is a very respectable figure.
@@matthewdavenport9549 Simple. I have a TH-cam channel and after I replied to two comments with basically the same content, I realized that it makes a pretty good stand-alone comment as a stand-alone if it's applicable to so many other comments and I should probably just comment from my TH-cam account.
Sorry, I was under the impression that you were the same person as Matthew complaining about me having later reposted the same comment elsewhere so I removed the comment. Ah well. You can see me repost the same comment with some adjustments elsewhere on my TH-cam account.
What if Kamado's war was the darkest day? Eternatus's raging could've easily destroyed his hometown.
I also assumed he was from the Johto region too when I saw his clothes.
Man, you are such an inspiration for Pokemon Theories
I've been under the impression that Laventon was actually related to Rose, what with the flower name and all.
Flowers for Pokémon charecter names is actually really common. Look to the Alola region. It’s all flowers
I see that better than him being related to Leon/Hop, he looks nothing like them.
What a good theory. I suspected this based on his back story and his kimono as well, but I was thrown off by the galarian armor and his accent
Also I believe the cherish ball was introduced in the Johto region, so the professor developing it is pretty interesting.
That's the canon version, this video is just wack.
@@Iskaid possibly but i still find it curious
4:38 That could literally be from his job as a Gym leader, A highly respected role in the pokemon world that allows people to challenge the upper levels of trainers aka the elite four then the champion. He's likely pretty famous being a gym leader hence a autograph unless there's more hints in pokemon masters since I don't play it.
Technically LT Surge fought in the Gulf war.
Editing at the front was awesome
I still think it was at the Lake of Rage. I am currently playing Pokemon Crystal. One of the Scientists states that the Rocket HQ in Mahogany Town was originally a ninja hideout. Being in close proximity to the Lake of Rage and being some of the only evidence of ninjas in Johto makes me think there has to be a cleaner connection. Plus there's nothing in the Pokemon canon that says an event can't happen multiple times in history. Gyarados are very hostile and could have destroyed more than just their village in the past
But these are just some thoughts.
i personally like to think that laventon came from copperajah’s original homeland since copperajah’s pokédex says the galarian forms traveled to galar long ago
The sign outside his Gym literally refers to him as "The Lightning American".
His armor is super similar to wikstroms armor, does that mean wikstrom is also from galar?
Possibly or just that that’s where Wickstorms armour is from
I’ve been wandering about that war people in hisui keep talking about. Can you imagine Pokémon giving us a war game.
The talk about the Pokéballs just reminded me… I really wish they would have made it to where we needed specific apricorns to make each ball…
Ecruteak City is not actually that far from the Lake of Rage. What if the Lake of Rage town was destroyed and then rebuilt as Ecruteak City?
His character break when he starts talking in a different dialect reminds me how dialects are usually handled in dubs. A character with a Southern Japanese dialect in the original gets a Cockney or Texan dialect in the dub.
While Kamado could be from anywhere in Johto, Beni definitely is from Mahogany, the town that is described to be the hiding place of ninjas.
