Paule Robitaille takes us into the world of the wartime journalist.
Paule Robitaille is an independent journalist and refugee lawyer. Born in Quebec City, she is a graduate of McGill University Law School. She left law to pursue a passion for journalism.
Ms. Robitaille began her journalism career at the Quebec National Assembly with the Canadian Press, before moving to Windsor, Ontario, to report for the Canadian Broadcasting Corp/Radio Canada. While working in Moscow for the CBC and different media sources in Quebec, she reported on the collapse of communism in the former Soviet Union and Afghanistan.
She spent several years in Vienna, Los Angeles and Montreal, producing award-winning documentaries for the CBC on politics, culture and society. In 1998, she was appointed CBC Latin America bureau chief. Although based in Mexico City, she travelled widely throughout the region. She also conducted a rare in-depth interview with Cuban leader Fidel Castro.
Ms. Robitaille has won the prestigious Nieman Fellowship for Journalism which permitted her to study conflict resolution at Harvard University.
In January 2005, she returned to law and was appointed to the Canadian Immigration and Refugee Board as an adjudicator. Recently, she has returned to journalism, producing an acclaimed television documentary on post-earthquake Haiti and publishing numerous articles.

An absolutely beautiful and courage lady, it has always been a calling in me also, to be a freelance war correspondent , but I was about to become a father for first time, my beautiful daughter is now 20 years of age now, and a long the way I had two sons. Seeing these stories and watching the news from my safe and beautiful country, New Zealand, I can still hear my calling for numerous reasons, to be a freelance war correspondent. I am watching Syria with interest.
