@Xela Flow WWI was the origin of nearly every geopolitical struggle and war which came thereafter. Without it there is no decolonization or Cold War, these being the instigator of the majority of conflicts since.

@Xela Flow the actual reason is world war 1 killed the political structure that had ruled the western world for the preceding century; the aristocracies that had ruled before had to find a new scam, because after a devastating war fought in exchange for (???) nobody bought that the aristocrats were a higher class of people by right of blood
socialism, fascism, and market liberalism had a brutal three-way battle for control in every western nation in the aftermath. fascism beat market liberalism where there wasn't enough wealth for the liberals to paper over liberalism's flaws, socialism beat them both where the fascists and the liberals couldn't get their act together to stop them, and then we spent until the fall of the berlin wall finishing the fight over which of socialism or market liberalism would get to grow fat, corrupt, and collapse like the feudal aristocracy did in WW1
it's weird, there's almost a perfect hundred-year cycle on this shit: the 90s are the dominant ideology at its peak, cracks start to show in the 00s, and in the 10s the whole fucking mess starts collapsing in on itself. we even have a plague at about the same time we did last time this happened!

@Glen Aitken no disagreement Trump is posturing as more virtuous than he is. But let's not forget:
      1. Trump came into office facing massive bipartisan and bureaucratic resistance. The system even took the unprecedented step of trying to frame him for treason right out the gate. So all of his actions have to be viewed in the context of trying to appease them.
      2. Trump has had many occasions to escalate military conflicts and has on every occasion chosen limited action.
      3. Joe Biden is not even pretending to be anti-war for second.
      4. Neocons are supporting Biden over Trump. The allegation that he somehow thinks troops "died for nothing" (because he's anti-war) is a classic neocon fascist smear. They said the same thing about the anti-war left from 2002 to 2008.
I look at those facts and conclude Trump is the more anti-war candidate.
