This LITERALLY just saved my a**. THANK YOU. 🙏 Had a really high-performing ad, which I stupidly tried one of Meta's suggested 'Actions' on, which edited the photo and therefore got rid of all its engagement (thousands of likes and hundreds of comments) of people saying how great the product was (which was driving sales). Have now been able to retrieve the original ad's post ID with this method. I also have the weird glitch where you can't preview the post. 🤬But I knew the date the ad was posted, so just tried all the post ID's until I found the right one... Thanks again. 🥰
Hey guys, I was struggling with the same thing and found a working solution, only thing is that someone needs to have liked or commented your ad prior: 1. Log in to the account where the page is running, for some people the page is ran on a separate page account. 2. Then go on the notifications and if you had engagement you're going to see something like "Marie liked your post", click on it and make sure that's the post 3. click on the date when it was posted its a hyperlink, the URL will change, take the story_fbid value and thats the post id hope I could help someone
How do you know the DCT is not working? what metrics do you usually look at . Do you still transfer the AD from losing DCT to the winners adset then create a new DCT?
If it's not drawing at least 40% of spend at a better CPA than the top ad then it's not working and I'll turn it off. The Winners ad set is only for winning creative.
@@cam_perdiem What do you do now? I was able to get around it by simply creating another ad and paste what I think the ID is in the post iD. If it doesn't match, I just guess again. Last night took me about 2-3 three tries but found the winning ad that way
Thanks for this method. I usually took the first post that was shown as it is the highest engaging one on facebooks eyes Now it is not sorted anymore like this sadly. Do you know a workaround maybe? I couldn't find one Did you get an answer from the FB support if this will stay like it is?
No problem. Be careful with taking the ad with highest engagement as an absolute rule. There are times when an ad has less engagement but actually performing better. Spend is the most important factor, generally more spend = more engagement but I have seen, for example, the second highest ad in terms of engagement actually spending more and driving the results. You can filter breakdown by image/video and text to check what's spending the most and match it up. In terms of the response, FB said it was intentional, and I couldn't get them to understand how we are all using this feature. Since then, I've seen some new preview options in one of my accounts, so I think this could be why it's been changed. We'll have to sit tight but it's looking like it may not be coming back.
Thanks for sharing, very easy to follow! Do you know how to get Instagram post ID? I usually check on meta suite for post with the highest engagement, but I can't find a way on how to get the post ID
If Instagram was the only placement selected it wil appear in Page Posts with IG as the preview. If you use auto placements the FB preview will always be shown but once you grab that post ID and set up an individual ad, you can preview "Instagram post with comments" and will see that the IG post is actually connected to it. With enough spend and time, the top ad combo on Instagram is likely going to be the same as FB, or at the very least will have some engagement so you can identify it as the ad connected to your top IG ad.
Cameron, any updates? This technique no longer working, unable to preview post after selecting it, only thumbnails show now.... any additional workarounds? Thanks!
Meta are making a whole bunch of changes right now. Someone in my course provided another workaround they'd seen on Reddit, but it only works on some of my accounts - could be worth a try. Click edit on the ad / go to the 3 horizontal dots in the top right hand corner / select More options / click Manage Facebook comments. This brings up your highest engaged ad only and none of the others. As mentioned, it works in some accounts I have and in others it brings up the same error shown in this video.
What if I am trying to use an existing post in my dynamic creative ad that I hadn’t use previously? I am just trying to run an ad with my new reels from instagram. But can’t use existing post in creative testing
Very important question. I have the post ID however when I launch the ad it remakes a brand new ad for instagram and keep the engagement on facebook. I have no clue how to fix this problem. Think you could help? Thanks
The ad you are seeing on Instagram and Facebook don't share the same post ID in that case. There are a few causes: clicking the "Optimize Creative for Each Person" button, editing the individual creative placements in the ad or simply that a slightly different combo is working better on Instagram. To get the Post ID of your Instagram ad you'd have to get the corresponding Facebook ad, but you can only check it's correct once you'd added the Post ID to an ad and can preview Instagram post with comments. Painful, I know!
@@cam_perdiem Going into my DCT the Optimize creative for each person is turned on. So you are saying that because of that I wont be able to get the proper post ID so I can keep the engagement on both facebook and instagram? If I turn this off does it mean I will then get the proper post ID to use for both platforms? I am assuming that if I turn this off it will lose all engagement for the entire DCT cuz i edited the ad. Thanks for the quick response I really appreciate it
@@SolaceBeauty could be it then. You can still get the Post ID the way I mentioned in my previous comment. It's simply that clicking that button creates way more Post IDs, as Meta create a different Post ID anytime they make an edit as part of their optimizations. If you turned it off, you wouldn't lose engagement as the Post IDs are already created, but I'm not sure if the Post IDs would still be running. They do if you make edits like adding more creative/ copy but I've never really played around with the button. If you can't find the IG ad or it would be too much work, I'd personally just leave the DCT ad set on and simply have it as an additional one running evergreen until it dies.
@@cam_perdiem this is the same person by the way just different acct. I am still a little confused as to how to get the Instagram post ID. If you’re saying they are separate IDs then how do I get the IG ID from the Facebook post? When looking at my DCT I see 1 specific ad, text, headline that’s getting all the sales. I have the link to both the IG and FB ad of that specific version that’s preforming. It seems there the same but I guess they’re different IDs? Also, if the IDs are separate does that mean I’ll have to make two separate ads, one with the FB ID and one with the IG ID? Thanks for your help bro I really appreciate it.
@@Josh_reinstein Your Facebook Business page is what post IDs are attached to. Even if it is an ad on Instagram, ultimately there is a Facebook Post ID as the parent. Keep in mind, the spend breakdowns are a guideline, it’s not a 100% proof way of saying those are the exact three elements of your top ad. The reason we look at it is to get a starting point and have a good idea, but ultimately what’s getting engagement on a daily basis, is what’s being served and bringing you performance. The optimization could be something you wouldn’t even notice, like a colour correction etc. and made a new post ID - I don't really know if they go that granular but certainly the number of Post IDs is massively increased by checking the button. What I suggest, is looking at your comment notifications in Business Suite(or even on the IG mobile app) and looking at the elements of the ad where all the IG comments are going. There will probably be a few Facebook post IDs with that same combo, so create ads for them all and preview Instagram Post With Comments until you see the correct one, then can delete the rest. Usually the corresponding Facebook Post has a bit of engagement too, it just won’t be the one with your highest engagement as you’ve already discovered. And yes, you will need to transfer 2 Post Ids in your Winners - one will be working on IG, the other on Meta...but in this sort of situation I find the DCT will still just keep the spend, so don't be surprised if that happens.
Yes, not working anymore on my side too on a few accounts. Can't see the preview of the ads in the Page Posts and the ads are also not available when choosing 'Select a post'. And Meta does not know anything about this...
Hard to tell without looking at it. Is there a primary text box in the edit ad that has been left empty? It could be an ad combo that doesn’t have text if so.

Leave it on until it loses spend or performance drops. #1 rule - never turn off anything that is working!
