Again, one of the few early reviewers that does some real world overheating tests instead of all the air-con, room-temp tests of everybody else... :)

It's so weird that the a7Siii has such good heat management with no fan or vent, yet none of these new cameras have it. I even record wedding ceremonies with the a7Rii, and it's never overheated... not once. That camera came out 8 years ago!
A7R II: only 4k 24fps, 8 bit, 4:2:0, h.264 < A7S III: 12MP < A7C II: 33MP, downsamples video from 7k, smaller body < A7CR: 61MP, downsamples video from 6k, smaller body. Makes sense. Sony is making the tiniest full frame cameras that have: IBIS, 4k60, 10bit, 4:2:2, h.265 internal. All of that = heat. Downsampling from 6k & 7k creates more heat then from a 12MP sensor that does not downsample to 4k. Shove it into a smaller body = more heat.
Hello Matt, I'm curious about what has changed with the new models. I have an A7SIII and an A7C. I use the A7C regularly for outdoor weddings in California Las Vegas, and AZ. I have never had any of my cameras overheat at any frame rate. Is the new sensor or new technology somehow causing this issue? Thank you again for your great videos.

does the sony a7cii heat up and shut down when recording at 4k60fps?
I would love to see an overheat test while using the HDMI port for an external monitor. And maybe using the USB-C livestream.
How the 4k 60p in crop factor mode on the a7cII compare to 4k 60p on a FX30/a6700 when regarding low light? are they virtually the same or a FF sensor is still better even in crop mode?
The fx30 has 6K oversampling, so better details. The A7C2 has a higher ISO range though, so it really depends on how dark your scene is.
@@fromia1 so the FF sensor still retains its better ISO range even in crop mode, right? and thanks for the info about the 60p not being 6k oversempled, I missed that

Yours are the first reviews I've seen today that mentions overheating. Of course, yours is the only one shot in Texas. (The Art of Photography didn't take his cameras outside, and he's mainly a stills guy.) This isn't a surprise, given their small size. Physics remains undefeated! Overall this is a good review. I keep reading that the EFS (electronic first shutter) affects the quality of the bokeh? Can you test/demonstrate that?
I’ve been using the A7c for weddings and has not let me down yet. Thinking of upgrading to the A7cII but because of your review, I will pass and maybe upgrade to the A7SIII. :) great review as always!

@@kuramafox1290 The A7c is a very good camera for content creation and photography. I use it for photography and videography for newborns, weddings, engagements and events. The dual card slot really is not a big deal unless you really want to make sure that you have redundancy for client work, but I have not had any issues for 2 years now. This is my work horse and is pretty good.
You also want to buy SD Cards from the trusted brands for reliability.
Is it possible to install false colour settings on the Sony A7Cii
Lightroom can't read the A7c2 now. Do you have any suggestions 🙏
hey , great videos , what do you think about FX30 ? in being an APSc making that kind of difference for video compare to something like A7C mk1 or A7iv?

I thought the a7cR didn't have 8K abilities, but you showed some "8K" footage around the 8:00 minute mark. Was this intentional?

Appreciate you making a real point of bringing up how important a second card slot is for paid work. Too may TH-camrs are glossing over that point in order to sing the praises of these cameras. Which I find disingenuous because these same reviewers scorned Nikon for a single card slot in their mirrorless cameras. Anyone say ...sponsorship??

Seems the A7c ii is only a couple of hundreds less than an A7iv. So the only reason to buy the C is to get an ultra compact body.
A second sd card slot like a micro sd slot similar to the nikon zf would have made this perfect

For ceremony edits, 30minute long record times outside I knew I couldn’t go with the Sony zve1 due to overheating so now thinking about purchasing the a7cii what’s your thoughts
I’m just so stuck my price range is $3000 or less that’s a 4k 24fps slog3 camera that can last 30 minutes in the heat with no issues for ceremony edits
I currently have a a7siii and was thinking of using the Sony zve1 as a main camera on the gimbal on the wedding day and then my a7siii on the tripod during ceremony
All I know is I sold my A7C (which I never had one problem with) to get the A7C II, and it overheats SO QUICKLY and drainssss the battery like I've never seen before 😢 it's sad

Tough choice! Probably the zve1
As someone who has the zve1, there are times I miss the evf for certain conditions. I do like the smart features and touchscreen functions. I also like having 4k 60 with no crop unlike my a74. If you do 50/50 (photo video), the a7c2 may be the better choice. If more video, the zve1 for sure.
@@nolepholife2843 wow this is helpful. I do more video surely (semi professional for my channel) and pictures are more for my medical presentations. But I often end up finding myself in relatively lower light conditions. That’s why my inclination for zve1 too - though I wonder if the low light of a7c2 is also “good enough”
I believe on paper, the lower megapixel count of the zve1 allows for less noise, which is why the a7s3 and fx3 tend to outperform other alpha models. Curious what the native iso of the a7c2 is, but can't imagine it being better than 640 and 12800 (a7s3, fx3, zve1) @@agambhatnagar
Ah if only Sony would update the a7IV with these new video features, like LUT support, it wouldn't feel like I’m wasting my money with these new camera releases..
They will, just not until next year or 2025 in the A7V lol.

It's a s*it hole! Outskirts of Norway is where you wanna go. And that starts like 30 minutes away from Oslo. So it's not the most terrible of ... holes... But that boat ride you must've been on is a treat. And kinda proving the point of 30 minutes away from Oslo is... better, hah :D @@whoismatt
Would you rather have the A7CII or the Panasonic S5 IIx?
I’m exactly in the same situation and the conclusion I came upon after doing a lot of research is that if autofocus and lens ecosystem is your biggest priority and you can deal with overheating then only go with Sony otherwise lumix S5ii is better in every possible way

@@diegocaracasfc even I haven't used A7cii myself (that's kinda obvious) but since the last one week I'm only watching TH-cam videos of different camera reviews and since A7cii has almost the same body as ZV E1 and no built in fans I'm assuming (and a lot of youtubers too) that the heating would be more or less same on both these cameras. And ZV E1 is known for its major overheating problems so much so that if you are in a 28°C or above temperature and shooting in direct sunlight it lasts just 20-25 minutes in 4k 25 and that is extremely disappointing. But if your workflow involves shooting in lower temperatures than 20°C or you don't shoot for longer intervals at once than this overheating issue become non existent. Although with Lumix S5ii, you can literally shoot in 38°C and still not have overheating thanks to its bigger body and built in fans
Single card slot = hard pass for me.
If Sony released these side by side their bigger counter parts, no one would be upset but they pack smaller ones with more tech

Feels like the a6700 is the better value for hybrid shooters.
Im so disappointed. I just sold my A7C that has always been so reliable and never failed me once, and got the A7C II and it overheated within 20 minutes, im thinking about returning it 😭😭😭 But it sucks cause it has so many new features, and now id take a hit by buying a brand new A7C if i need to. The only thing i can hope for is a firmware update that helps fix the overheating......... God willing 🙏🏻
I think Sony is just creating these cameras for just content creators, not for professionals, I prefer to buy Lumix or canon than sony

Thermal performance is what got me away from sony. Seems I will stay away.
Conclussion, no cameras without an active fan are reliable for professional jobs

Was thinking about selling the a7RIVa camera and upgrading to the a7CR, and after seeing no “tilt screen” I was disgusted at Sony and I’ll never purchase a non-tilt-screen camera, PERIOD END OF DISCUSSION
