That max speed was way faster than anything I've seen on wide world of trains. And he's got some good location to shoot from
I have an A-B-B-A set on NYC sharks by weaver that I converted to PS-2 They also had a large gap between the engines, so I put in Kadee couplers and its perfect now.
What a beautiful unit, Ive seen video of that RF-16 in northern Michigan, it’s in pretty rough shape
The sharknose is one of the coolest diesel locomotives, and that paint scheme Is one of my favorites
I agree!
Is the paint scheme representative of anything in real life?
@craigjones2162 Yes, the prototype was a Baldwin Demonstrator RF-16
This is a beautiful addition to the fleet, and the paint scheme is awesome, it being a demonstration paint scheme adds something that is very unique.
Eric next year Gettysburg and Northern will bring back Passenger service and the train will be a nice cool dark blue with the matching dark blue diesel locomotive and when you will see it and hear the horn of the GP38-2 with the veterans patches under the cab window.
What doomed Baldwin in the diesel market was the reliability of their engine it was dang near bullet proof it was their incapacity for multiple unit operations with other manufacturers. Baldwin insisted on an air operating system when everyone else went with electronics. This denied them the ability to mate up in mixed consists with other manufacturers locomotives. So everyone stopped ordering from them.
Interesting. No planned obsolescence.
There's a video somewhere on TH-cam about the light bulb and how a bunch of companies got together and made sure no light bulb lasted forever.

Very nice locomotives. It's a good thing that Lionel started using the dummy couplers between units, as they did on the Post-war and MPC-era engines. The gap looks way better. Steam engines are easier to modify, as you can change or add another slot on the draw-bar. I almost always favor bell number one and horn number one. They are usually the most prototypical. My only criticism of modern Lionel has been with the crew talk. All of the beautiful features and prototypical look of the locomotives, running on such incredible layouts and they are let down by the goofy and unrealistic talk. It is what it is, I guess. Either way, gorgeous locomotives and a fine video, as always.
One of the coolest looking diesels, IMO
RED and WHITE were my school's colors. WIDENER MEMORIAL SCHOOL in Philadelphia
You picked another great set Eric.
Love that scheme on the Baldwins.
Really enjoying the new camera angles in your latest videos, keep them coming!
Thanks for noticing!
That is some great looking locomotive
And I agree the red and white looks great.
It makes the loco stand out more
Great overhead shots!
gorgeous set. horn 5 and its a tie for 1 & 3 for the bell
Love Baldwin diesels. This is a most impressive lash up ! Horn 5 and bell 3 get my vote ! Thanks
I enjoyed the new elevated camera shots. Nice presentation.
Sharknose is my favorite diesel. I model HO, So I am waiting in eager anticipation of my Broadway Limited AB set preorder going through very soon. This one looks great!
That paint scheme looks awesome !
Eric, I am amazed at the detail that Lionel is putting on their equipment now. Also, I really like the weathering you have done on your rolling stock!! It makes a plastic car look real!!!
Thanks for the video, Seeing this restores my faith in Lionel products. Conductor Dave
Its great we got 2 surviving Sharknoses around. Hope one day they get acquired by a museum or tourist railroad.
Yeah I hope so
That things is insanely fast. I wonder how much you could pull with all those powered units.
You're absolutely right about pointing out the good lionel has been doing lately. I mean look at their steam locomotive drawbars, they now have 2 positions in the drawbar for closer coupling which is great! The vision line GS class engines were INCREDIBLE to say the least, spectacular in fact. They did have some sound issues, but other than that, I've heard nothing bad about them except the usual price tag gripes. Can't wait to see the review of those engines soon. I know it can take a while to get a video of that many engines out like that.
# 5 Horn sounds very nice also.
That thumbnail😂 made me think of the Wayne's World Extreme Close-up scene lol
Definitely wouldn't let that boy play with the expensive stuff
🤣
Those trains are amazing. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Awesome locomotives!!!
Thank you very much!
That's a sharp looking set Eric.
3 on the bell, 5 on the horn. 5 has a modern tone/note. mho
Thanks for that tip on fixing the couplers on the 21" passenger cars.
I think I'm one of those vocal critcs of Lionel you refer too.
I still love Lionel Trains😉
Very nice!
Gorgeous locomotives, I the red and white too. Red engine are really nice, they really pop and stand on a layout. Love the horn, the 1st and 2nd ones specifically. The rolling stock stands out to me too, especially the 2 gondola cars with all the scrap iron loaded in them and that blue hopper with the graffiti looks awesome! Great video Eric!
Thanks!
Now if they could just make a PRR BP20, the big sharks!
Yeah
Great video Eric. After about 13 years of watching your videos I am finally making the jump from HO and On30 to 3 rail O by preordering the new Hiawatha set. I blame you!!! Lol
I like Horn #1 and Bells #1 and #5
Eric your ground shots are simply awesome ! !
Thanks!
I love these RF-16 diesels ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Talk about being in the right place at the right time, great addition to your collection 👍👍

There is a baldwin sharknose diesel locomotive still in existence, and its been hidden away for 40 years.
I was born in Escanaba and have those D&H Baldwins in my fleet!!!

Really enjoyed the sharks, they look great. Just they belong with your other custom runs. Thanks for sharing.
I've heard the 1205 and 1216 are confirmed for a museum, but they haven't specified where.
I liked #s five and one on the horn, # one on the bell. Awesome package/configuration/features, color, etc. (forgot the rest) "Comment" (click)
Thanks 🙏
Very nice set. Not a fan of sharknoses but that’s a great train
Nice! I have the Pennsy set from the old Century Club. The gap is definitely hard to ignore. I'm actually going to sell them soon on ebay.
Sounds great!
I want one
WOW! Can I feature this thing in my song remake of Nebraska66's 'Westbound train'?
I like the wider camera shots.
Again nominating Eric for the highest award for cinematography too,not just layout detail.
Thanks
NIce.
???awesome ! Is thier a hobo series like one getting on the train, camping in the jungle 😊 thanks for videos
my horn favorite is horn 1 and bell 1
my favourite horn its nummber 5 and Bell its nummber 5
The Baldwin Demo set, became the EJ&E...... they ultimately sold that set to B&O
Hey Eric do you think you could maybe review the 2101 Chessie Steam Special sometime?
Sure
Which horn and bell are the correct ones?
I was hoping you could do a review on the lionel Atlantic locomotive specifically the southern 1906 because I’m not sure what the whistle sounds like and I don’t know if it’s a really good product I’ve looked very far and I can’t find any reviews on it. It seems a little expensive, but I have enough money for it and if there was a review for it, it would be nice, so I would know which train to buy.
Uh, did you forget your BFIMO? What happened?
Everyone seems to pick on Lionel maybe because there pricey
But if they buy something from elsewhere
For less money even if it’s messed up they Say Oh !!!!!
The price was right
Horn number one in Bell number one are my
I love the Baldwin shark diesel it okay but not the engine it suck that led the end of production of the Baldwin shark
I have the EJ&E A-B-A
Nice!
how many takes did you need to get that intro nailed!
🤣
Bell 2, and Horn. . . 5? I guess? 😅 (bell 2 is fast)
Horn # 5
Horn 1 bell 5.
Horn 1 bell 1
Hi
Those kinda look like Appalachian and Western locomotives
Exactly
Horn 5, bell 5
Horn 5
The trains I want 📈
My wallet 📉
Honestly they all sound bad more criticism lionel just can’t seem to get it right sometimes which is rare they knock it home with a good sounding prototypical horn but never consistent. This also applies to there sound effects on there diesels - one example is the EMD sounds totally off major upset ALCO sounds not even close and so on etc. just an opinion on my part no one has to agree to each his own!!!
They look like they were designed to pull passenger cars not freight.
The “F” in the name means they were designed for freight. They ended up pulling passenger trains as well.
@@Ericstrains so Why do they design them looking like they should be pulling passenger cars not freight?
I live actually 15 minutes away from that store in the Concord Mills and have bought a bunch from there. Ive seen this loco set your referring to and I cant understand why this set was so great to put on your youtube video. I found it plain and quite boring and wouldnt spend the money for it compared to the other sets. Just saying....
Wow! Lionel Playworld. I grew up with that store. Way better than Toys r Us.
Ha, thanks
