    Baldwin did a excellent job with this design. Glad they came to the Michigan Northern Railroad. Lionel brought all this RR history together, The Sharknose is very classic. As always a well done review. Thank-you, for sharing your philosophy on life and the hobby. Looks & sounds great on the layout. Like the Michigan Central boxcar.
    • Cheers from Michigan.

    Eric Nice review. I like the KaDee coupler mod you did also. The sharknose units look perfect on your layout. As far a crew talk - I'm in your corner I like them, a littler cheeszy sometimes, but makes a chuckle to friends who thought that the only sounds were the horn and bell. Keep up the good review.

    Eric, ericstrains, once you did the switch to the Kadee couplers, how much did it reduce the turning radius? Maybe O-42/54 or more like O-72? I have ordered an "AA" set and I think your coupler idea is great. I have been doing some research myself to try and find out what the turning radius might be but I have not had much luck or just have found the right conversation on a forum....any thoughts? Thanks

    I have the B&O version, which I use for pulling 18 scale B&O coal hoppers on O-72 track. Your Kadee coupler idea really interests me, and I will definitely be looking into that. Is there a way to replace the front couple with a Kadee that will still work from the Legacy remote?

    Hi Eric
    I purchased the AA NYC set from trainworld but no one had the powered B unit except Lionel and they were cheaper than I thought, they truly are a lovely brilliant set. Thanks for the review anyway, I live in the UK and Lionel have brilliant crew talk sounds. I believe MTH do a set???? but will this run on legacy??
    Thanks for a great source of tips etc.

  • @michaelbezak5401
    @michaelbezak5401 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I realize this is a older video, I hope I’ll get a responce. When you install the AA to the legacy remote, do you address each A unit the same number or would you address them separately and create a lash up or train in the remote. I hope this all makes sense

  • @erniestammers5121
    @erniestammers5121 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Eric
    I have what may seem a stupid question, but as I have the Sharknose by Lionel A & powered B units how do I set up as a lash up? Does the powered A unit become the lead unit then the Non powered A unit and then the B unit or which way round should these last 2 units go please? as I can set up a lash up no problem but it is getting the lighting correct for direction that I am struggling with. I am really pleased with these units, but if I was to make a small criticism is that I personally think Lionel should have incorporated: Diesel sounds for the powered B and some crew dialogue between the non powered A and the Powered A.
    Great Vids by the way.
    I have ordered the Legacy Mohawk and a 4-6-0 ten wheeler should be here in May 2015.
    Kindest Regards
    Ernie

      intermodalman123 Ah the builder's plates. The reason they went inside in the first place. I would love to see the units go somewhere were they would be run though. They are beautiful, and no one seems to know of them. The warehouse is somewhere on Escanaba and Lake Superior Railroad trackage, but I couldn't tell you where. One needs a new traction motor, the other needs a prime mover rebuild. If I find the photos ill link em.

    I believe bachmann makes some very affordable models but they have the same problem that the lionel ones have but that could be fixed by a drawbar i think that Bachmann has the idea on the table of retooling them someday to address the problem. the only other places to buy HO RF-16s are in brass or from Broadway limited and that still is more expensive than the bachmann units.

    Baldwin's were known for lugging power and unfortunately railroad crews would lug them until the crankcase would explode. They're switchers and their road switchers outlasted the shark nose road diesels by decades.

    Eric, I’m hoping to get the B&O version of these engines for Christmas this year, and I want to get the A-A set and both the powered and non-powered B units to have an A-B-B-A RF-16 Sharknose diesel consist. The problem is that I haven’t had any luck with finding dealers in my home state of North Carolina that have these available. On the websites for most of the dealers I could find that had them on their list, I found that they were sold out, meaning there were none left in stock. I need some help finding a dealer that has the A-A set and the powered and non-powered B units in the B&O livery for the RF-16 Sharknose diesels in stock at prices that I can afford. I decided the best thing to do was ask someone for help, and you were the only person I could think of. Do you think you can help me find a dealer that has the A-A set and the powered and non-powered B units in the B&O livery for these engines? I also looked on the website for your favorite train store, Legacy Station, but I could only find one of the items for the RF-16 Sharknose diesels. Could you help me, please?

    It’s a shame that the only two survivors are sitting in a shed on the Escanaba and Lake Superior. I understand the owner wants to keep them safe from enthusiasts who want “souvenirs”, but if they don’t do something soon, it won’t be long before the Sharks meet the cutter’s torch.

    The reason they are locked in a warehouse if because railfans stole builders plates and cut electrical equipment resulting in very expensive repairs. It got to be so bad the railroad would put up signs saying railfans neither wanted nor tolerated. Like they say a few bad apples spoil the bunch
