I love the plates in the drawer! I think sometimes we just get so used to one way or the way it's been since the beginning of time that we don't often think of putting things in other places or doing things differently.
Plates in the drawer are practical! This decreases fall risks in the elderly. Many people loose balance when reaching overhead and it is easier on old joints.
When we moved to this house, I designed the kitchen storage so there is a drawer for the plates and bowls. It is larger, but it is holding a few more plates and bowls too. LOL Anyway, I love it! I put a special pegboard thing on the bottom with dividers put in to keep the plates and bowls where they belong. I love how your Grandma has her needed items close at hand. And I love, love love, how you organized her things in pretty bins with macro organization. Where did you find the bins with the photos in them?
Yes, happened in my current apartment - I had just one tiny cabinet up the kitchen counter which was also inserted into a nook so it was 1. too far, 2. too high. On the other hand, we have 6 huuuuge drawers where the left three are full of teas, coffee, spices, pasta, rice, cat food, etc. and in the right three, we have all utensils, plates, bowls, kettles and pans... I never even want to organize it differently from now on. :D

I've been keeping my plates and bowls in drawers for over 25 years. When I built my last house, I had special deep drawers put in to hold a service for 8 of my everyday dinnerware. I love it that way. You did a fabulous job for your grandma. She is absolutely adorable!
Some additional issues to keep in mind, just reminders: Lots of older folks cannot reach over their head very easily. Shoulder arthritis, bursitis, balance or other issues. For garbage, too, they often do better with garbage cans than with dumpsters - they can't throw a garbage bag up over their heads into a dumpster. Phone numbers & text for reading need to be double spaced. Most old folks can read small print if it's double spaced (or space-and-a-half). With knee or back issues, even occasional flare ups, they need things stored at waist height or eye height. They can't bend down well. Having her bar near the diningroom table is brilliant - she can sit to access everything in the bar. Well done! Having a good quality reacher handy (or more than one in various rooms) is priceless. The best ones I've found were at Menards hardware big box store for about $10. (Walgreens had lesser ones for $25.) Her condo looks open and airy but without the cold distances for her to get where she needs to go. Nice!
Just a fyi as a younger person I have a lot of work injuries from lifting and pushing pulling etc for 35 years as a ICU nurse and Im short. So I keep a grabber in my car to reach items on the high shelves in stores
Consider typing out emergency contact info and inserting the sheet into a magnetic clear frame that can be displayed in the fridge. It's easy to glance at the numbers for her and in case of an emergency and someone else needs to help her they can easily contact family members, doctor etc.
I've been watching your videos for a while now and I just love your laugh and positivity. I started watching this video and paused immediately at the memory boxes bc you can see they are just a bunch of framed pics put in containers and I'm living for it. It's real af. You didn't take the photos out, try to put them in one album, upload to some site to make a book, blah blah blah, just threw them in containers and labeled them. Real life. THANK YOU! Much love to you and grandma.
Isn't it great? Now, I feel hopeful for finishing organizing my photos and memories. I'm a "ladybug" so should just try the way Cass did it and not procrastinate because I want it to be perfect.

We just moved into a senior housing apartment. Our kitchen is even tinier than your grandmother's. So we extended our kitchen into the dining area, installed IKEA cabinets on the wall, and put a table on concrete blocks to raise it to counter height. That's my tea area. Our dining table fits well in our large living room, which is open to the former dining area. We're happy with that arrangement. (Our plates do fit in the cabinet, but we got rid of our dinner plates and use the luncheon plates. Neither of us eat enough to fill a dinner plate anyway. 😊)

A couple questions: 1) did y'all have professional cleaning done before moving in, particularly in light of the current virus climate? 2) I find myself disinfecting everything and still socially isolating, but everything seems very normal in this video - maybe it's different in Canada right now? I'm in the U.S. sooo...😬 Please note, this is definitely NOT a criticism, it's just that watching your video makes me think maybe I'm overreacting and am just curious about your perspective on all this. We renovated our kitchen, putting in as many drawers as possible. Nothing is hidden behind other things like on shelves.
