"Done is better than perfect." "Clutter is a Constant To-Do List and leads to Decision Fatigue." "Your closet at the end of the day is a tool for you to get dressed ...in a healthy, non-stressful way. Set yourself up for success... don't start the day in a panic." "Clutter is directly related to stress." WOW. YES. AMEN.

The biggest ahh ha moment to me was when Tracy said "Clutter is a to-do list" I spend all my free time trying to move clutter around, organizing it in boxes, deciding to keep it or not.... This is it for me. It is gone. By this weekend it is gone. I will donate and give away till I'm blue in the face, but this is NOT consuming my life anymore. My next to-do list will begin with taking my grandson to the zoo, planting that new plant outside, giving myself a facial.... what a waste of precious time things have robbed me of.

Wow, I really like what she said about and does with backpacks. I was that "foster kid" that she's speaking of. It got bad when I was 12 or 13. I was moved in and out of 5 foster homes in the matter of 3 years. Talking about and actually donating her backpacks is doing a huge service to kids that dont have all that much, including a father or mother, to love look after & provide [backpacks] for these kids. It means sooo much to foster kids (As I was) when stuff like this is donated to them. I really experienced kindness and love from communities that didn't even know my name. Even after being in the foster system for a few years, I was still in crisis mode and once people found out my situation and why and how I became a foster kid in the 1st place, a lot of people wanted to help me anyway they could, not with $ but with positivd relationships mentorship and odd jobs to take my mind off me losing my whole family. So, thank you very much. You hit a soft spot in me when you said this and you are 100 percent with what you just said. God Bless You

Westside Dannyboy...your story is so sad. When a friend of my son (they were about 11) was dealing with an alcoholic mother, and no dad, my son came to me and asked if his friend could stay a few days. Long story short, my husband and I took foster parenting classes (much of which INFURIATED me!) just so this kid would not have to go into the system, but stay with us, and on his birthday, December 23, and 2 days before Christmas, we got actual custody of him. All of us were so happy. He had an amazing b'day and Christmas that year and was with us until he graduated high school and a bit after. He still comes and sees me and is still "bro's" with my son. I feel so bad for what YOU went through, but I learned that the training that they give to/for foster parents is absolute BS and just plain lousy, and NOT conducive to the love a young person in trouble needs. I am so sorry we failed you, and I pray that God will bless you as you go on the rest of your journey! Take care, my love...

16 years ago, I moved into my current house; this house was my husband's house (and his exwife and kids' house). Even though he threw out his ex's belongings he was holding onto the crappola that belonged to his kids in their childhood. I had some of my kids items there as well. When quarantine started in March 2020 I went through EVERYTHING and gave things back to all 5 kids and if they didn't want them I sold them on Facebook marketplace or donated it or threw it out. SO liberating and felt SO good! Don't be afraid to declutter - it's a freeing event. If there's 'something' that I'm not sure about giving up, I put it away and re-visit it some time down the road and make a decision at that point.

It's an elegant shape, but the color really pops. I find that wearing the coat is a mood enhancer! People stop me all the time, just random strangers, to smile and say how much they love the color of this coat. "It's so cheerful" or "it brightens up a winter day" etc. Children smile on the subway. I feel a boost from seeing them smile and it makes me smile. This wa a great show. I knew a girl whose house burned down...a big family home stuffed with things from decades. She said it so liberating they all determined to have a much simpler place. I don't think people even question the "Affluenza". Family members who bring is stuff and expect the one housewife to look after it all alone are showing great cruelty. People who stack stuff all over a dining room table are telling others to keep their distance. I hate to get all shrink talk, but I learned after years to read people's actions, not their front. Then there are those who stack their meds and health issues everywhere....the housewife or caregiver MUST have a retreat place inside their own house to get away from the shrines and collections of family members.

Best description of clutter I've heard is "visual noise". Clutter is loud! De-cluttering with compassion is when you listen to what each piece is saying before getting rid of it/keeping it. Tends to be a lot of emotion when it's problematic.

Missy...so very sorry about your losses. Life is a road that is not always easily travelled. I recommend watching Laura Moore (clutter clarity) as a start- she really helped me. It is not about our stuff but our relationship with our stuff. Clutter truly is delayed decisions. There is so much you are working through it’s no wonder you are overwhelmed. Start by taking care of yourself first...I’m not sure of your disability or limitations but there are many resources available. I use online books from the library and enjoy the audible books. If possible talk to your doctor/ counsellor about the emotional clutter you are working through. Maybe look into joining a community social arena...coffee club, book club, knitting club, or card playing club (when safe to do so of course. The physical clutter you need to start small...one purse, drawer, tabletop, shelf or room at a time. Before you purchase something try not to impulse buy- I have waited several weeks before I buy something to see how much I really need it. If possible sell what you don’t love on Marketplace and then set up a retirement fund or wellness fund (massage, chiropractor, yoga classes etc) for yourself. Try not to live in the past (depression) or the future (anxiety) but stay focused on the present (that is why it is called a 🎁). Meditation is something I’m trying.
❤️ Your loved ones past and present want you to be happy. Know you are not alone and there are so many people who are struggling with the same things you are going through. Ask for help and advice from the people you trust. Decluttering isn’t something that is done in a day but a life-long process and needs to become a daily habit. Go easy on yourself it’s a personal journey looking at your past self, present self and what you want your future self to be. Remember to enjoy the ride. 🤗

I am sorry for your loss. It sounds like your boyfriend is adding to your stress and to your clutter. Your statement that you don't think he cares about you is concerning. What are you getting out of the relationship? Are you being used? I don't know your age, but there are organizations in some communities that have lists of volunteers who can do odd jobs around your house. When I was in my twenties a few of us from our church got in touch with the local senior center. We used to volunteer to cut grass, clean house, fix gutters, or whatever the person needed. Sometimes they needed help once, other times it was weekly. As we worked it seemed like the most important thing that people wanted was just to talk and know someone cared about them. There may be others who are older but able bodied and would gladly help out if they knew your needs.

      @ltraina3353 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

This reply is a year after your original comment and I truly hope you have made progress in cleaning your house.
I can relate so much to what you wrote, except I’m not disabled, so I don’t really have any justification for not clearing out my house. I’ve just always had too much stuff, too little storage and too little motivation to tackle the problem. I look at an area I want to clean and I don’t even know where to start….so I don’t.
When I was a kid, my bf and I would go to each other’s house to help clean. It’s so much easier to clean someone else’s place.
I wish I could find someone I trust enough to not judge me, so I could ask for their help.
I wish you the best, just wanted to let you know that you are not alone. Peace!

A slow-cooker and an Instant Pot are NOT the same thing. The Instant Pot has a slow-cooker button on in but the heating elements are totally different and in a different place and it can burn your food. the Instant Pot is really designed to be a pressure cooker and that's where it shines. A slow-cooker is designed to cook all day and not burn the food. They only appear to do the same thing to someone who doesn't do a lot of cooking. This was an awesome video, thank you!

My take on this: For birthdays and Xmas - start with giving something that doesn't last, something that the receiver doesn't keep for too long, but do know the person. If you happen not to know him/her, just call and invite him/her for a walk, a cup of tea, a night at the cinema, or the like. If he/she is too busy, then tick it off, the ball is now in their court and the next move is their's. Writing a simple (!) card is also fine and not intrusive!

I had a similar experience with asking churches for help. THREE churches actually!!! Not one has called me with an offer to help…and money wasn’t an issue…never asked for any financial assistance whatsoever, and wouldn’t even if I needed it. In fact, I offered to pay them to more than cover any transportation costs, as well as 40% of anything of value they sold. People who try to appear as real Christians, many are NOT! Christ consciousness is inside a person, not in the church building…the building stands there for all to see, but the love, compassion, empathy, kindness and genuine goodness inside a human being is not so easily visible just from the outside. I empathize with you on every issue you brought up. I too am a senior widow without family, with physical challenges, and am slow. I have been listening to Abraham-Hicks often, and Law of Attraction talks, which seems to be helping me with the depression. I continue to love Jesus, and all the wonders of divinity, but have understandably become very disillusioned with “religion” and the “church “. Thank you for being so candid with what you’re going through. Just knowing there’s someone else who understands is helpful in lessening the pain of all this. I’ll think of you with encouraging thoughts…👍🏻 👋🏻 🙂

OMG I can't make decisons to save my life on a regular basis, even what to order at a restaurant. Its a brain issue I have bad ADD and struggle to complete things. I have been eating TERRIBLE lately and get irritable. This makes so much sense. I want to eat healthy, even buy the food, yet I grab chips and string cheese. Ugggg. thanks for this video. This is what I need to hear, it is killing me and affecting my life on every level.

I used to struggle with that due to not wanting to make the wrong decision so I’d buy all the shoes or none but I hope it will help you to know that rarely will a decision be life or death. Just make a choice in the moment and allow yourself to be human and if not thrilled with that choice, you can choose differently next time and it’ll be ok. 💕🌞

I'm in the process of minimalizing and "Zen-ing' my home but have downsized from a house to a beautiful 2 bedroom/1 bath condo with living/dining area, washer/dryer/dishwasher and huge wrap around deck. I've gotten rid of lots of stuff from over the years and after raising a family, but it never seems to end despite that I don't have as much as others. But during this pandemic Amazon has been a god-send because I'm 72 and have MS, a disability and can't drive! Haven't been to a mall in years and never really liked them, the crowds etc. I only buy what's necessary for the most part, but am a bookaholic. Have passed on some of those as well. Amazon is not only a god-send to me but millions of other elderly people and disabled people who can't get out to shop and get it delivered right to their front door! Minimalized my kitchen and it always feels good to clear things out! Donate your stuff when you can, someone needs it! Gave a fairly new blender to my oldest granddaughter and an ice cream maker and frying pan that was too big to my oldest grown daughter! "charity also begins at home" old saying! BTW, a lot of us Baby Boomers are still around, alive and kicking, still young at heart! We're not all dying off...yet! lol Thanks for another great video, didn't know about the link between clutter and high cortisol, but not surprised!

I was shamed by my parents for getting rid of the things they gave me and for declining the items that were my grandparents. I feel that my granny’s things and my parents things are the things they like and it’s ok for me not to want them. I don’t even have photos or any of my kids schools stuff. I don’t need photos, I have a memory that can recall moments.

The church by my house has a free little library type ordeal that's always open and there 24/7 where the community donates pantry items of all sorts. It's such a lovely idea, I see the homeless happily munching on items that would have probably gone bad and it just warms my heart. I find myself going at least a few times a month and it helps keep me from wasting foods that will go bad soon and makes me feel good about not having had wasted money on it (:

Now, I wish I had kept more of my L.A. Weekly newspapers!!! I have a few and treasure them.
After Covid, there are no events coming up soon, in L.A. & I used to look forward to Thursdays for the Weekly, a week of possibilities, music, art, social events, ect.
I found a page lately, it was full of ads for events that I would wanted to go to, and wished I had saved more. Beautiful newspaper! Great writing, editorials, reviews. It's very bittersweet. I don't want to forget my life when I went to concerts, ect.
I had a problem with them piling up. who's to know what you will want in the future. Save a lot, save nothing? So hard to know.

I do think it's important to ask people in the photo (if you can) if they want a picture. Just decluttering for oneself with no concern for the others in the pictures....isn't kind. They may really value that image and not even know you have it. Also, with increased interest in ancestry, one 'bad photo' may still be the only physical artifact of an ancestor's appearance and become very valuable to someone in the future. But if one doesn't want to store them personally, scanning and saving to disc(s) and sharing with others in the family makes sense to me..

Instant Pot ≠ Crock Pot. I tried using my Instant Pot as a slow cooker and it was a fail. If you haven’t yet figured out how to convert a slow cooker recipe to a pressure cooker recipe (or don’t wish to do so), then an actual slow cooker is a must. The thin stainless steel walls of an IP don’t have the same effect as the thick ceramic walls of a slow cooker.

Correct, these Kitchen items ARE NOT "Identical." They operate differently. I had an Insta Pot Knock off (a YEDI) IT BURNED MY BEANS AND ALSO RAN OVER AT THE TOP. I GOT SICK OF THAT QUICK! NOW, I make beans in my slow cooker, small batches, (1/3 large bag)I keep them on "warm" and get three or more days of using them as meal "add-ins." I can do this safely as I start with pure water, 3 soaks and water change, draining and refill H2O in 12 hours SOAK. Then, I put them on high heat, bring up to hot, and then turn on low, then warm. I do not "pick the beans," I do not add spices or cooking oils. I season them only as I actually serve them heated! I finally make Refritos (Refried Beans) at the third day. I mash them and refridgerate, then grease them up and add spices at last use, 4th day. We never get any food poisoning, or sick stomach issues. Some f@rts,/gas, not bad though, It works for me, as it is easy to "dish" up a filling meal as needed! LoL 😉
