Ironic you should bring that up about him wearing jeans. My sensei used to make us wear street clothes a lot. He'd allow us to practice that way so we would be ready at all times in different environments and situations. Which is actually a great way to learn. Cause fighting in street clothes vs a gi has advantages and disadvantages. So we learned with a gi one day shorts a next, then jeans. And also what Daniel did training his students in the heat then the cold.....we did that and trained in the dojo, my sensei's backyard, in the woods and on his basketball court which was also in his backyard. Honestly, I believe he did a great job training so we could be prepared for anything in any kind of situation.
I disagree that Demetri won through plot armor. The entire scene where the Miyagi-Do students trained in the storage room is related to this fight. To quote Daniel, "This isn't about who's fastest and who's strongest, this is about instincts." Demetri uses the Miyagi-Do teachings in this scene. He anticipates Hawk's attacks and is able to counter them. This goes in line with his improved reflexes shown during that very scene. Hawk may have had more experience than Demetri, but he was too focused on the offensive rather than coming up with a strategy.
This is why miyagi do is my favorite also this is why Daniel was able to win the tournament and beat people who had practiced karate for years when he only trained for a couple months
@@cagegames4755 That could be one of the reasons, as that would play into him not thinking of a strategy due to being exhausted. However, I think they were trying to show how much Demetri improved over time and his usage of Miyagi-Do teachings.
Never let your guard down because an enemy is weaker than you. Hawk went on the assumption that Demetri didn't know how to fight back and that's where it snuck up on him.
Demetri's kick was a victory for every school geek abandoned by their so-called friend(s) when their so-called friend(s) thought they had a chance to be cool instead.
SalemGhassanHanna Okay here’s my perspective on the Dimitri Eli friendship. From the earlier episodes Dimitri was the dominant friend. Eli was too shy to speak. Dimitri will make any rude sarcastic comment he can without regard for anyone’s feelings. So I’m guessing those comments would have been making Eli feel inferior for years. The one thing that improved Eli’s life Dimitri attacked over yelp. People see how Eli bullied Dimitri, but nobody thinks about how Dimitri bullies Eli.
@@hollysterling4681 I think Demetri's sarcasm is clearly a defence mechanism and he probably used it on behalf of both of them. I highly doubt Eli would have been a popular or cool guy before he met Demetri, so Demetri wasn't bringing him down or even holding him back. It took something radical (Johnny's leadership) for Eli to finally grow a spine.
SalemGhassanHanna I didn’t say that Eli would have been more popular without Dimitri. I meant that since they were friends Dimitri would have been making those comments for a long time. Go back to the first episode when Miguel first asked if he could sit with them. Dimitri’s sarcastic reply was laced with self loathing about their unpopularity. “Why Eli here is the prom king” he said. As if the thought of him ever becoming popular was outrageous to the point of laughably. The fact that Eli laughed along is an indication that he himself thought it laughable that he could ever be popular, or liked by any of his peers. I’m not saying that Dimitri intentionally tried to lower his friends self esteem, but those comments most likely did reinforce the thought in Eli’s mind that he would never get to be a popular guy, and feeding his insecurities. Yes Dimitri’s sarcasm is his defense mechanism, but maybe Dimitri had the bulling coming for years. I understand that it wasn’t right for Eli to beat up Dimitri (btw he never actually got to lay a finger on him) It’s not okay. I’m just saying that contempt didn’t come from nowhere. Eli first bullied Dimitri after he posted a bad review of Cobra Kai. This might seem to most as an overreaction but to Eli it was the only thing that made his life improve. It gave him confidence, and some control over his self image. To Eli Dimitri wasn’t attacking a Karate dojo, he was attacking Eli’s self esteem. In the beginning Dimitri already had a higher sense of self esteem the Eli. He spoke on behalf of Eli most of the time. This gave Dimitri control of Eli’s socialization. This gave Dimitri control of Eli’s social image. Humans need social interaction to me mentally healthy. Many of Eli’s mental issues could have been directly caused by Dimitri lowering his self image and making him incapable of speaking for himself, and having healthy social interactions with his peers. I also find the situation at moon’s party interesting. Dimitri sees his friend heartbroken after being dumped. (Witch by the way was cause by the Mall fight he had with Dimitri) then Dimitri immediately tells him to give up because he would never win her back, again implying that he’s not good enough to have a pretty girlfriend, no matter how much he loves her. Eli never even hit Dimitri, not even in the mall fight. At the party all he did was pour a drink over his head and insult him verbally. So Dimitri finds it justified to get up and tell the entire party all of Eli’s embarrassing secrets, damaging his reputation, and self esteem again. And again I’m not saying it was okay for Eli to fight Dimitri, but Dimitri definitely asked for it. If anyone deserved to win that fight it was Eli.
Interesting detail. Demetri is pretty savage with bringing up Eli's embarrassing things from the past but he never brought up his lip scar which is the thing that would get to Eli the most and Demetri knows that.
I felt really bad for Eli though because Demetri had embarrassed him in front of like 40 people at a party and to have Eli lose in a fight really made me upset that Demetri won.
@@wildguy219 Hawk deserved it after pouring beer on Demetri's hair in front of the same 40 people when he just was trying to be friends with Eli again.
True. I loved Hawk before he became Hawk, but honestly, he deserved getting his ass handed to him. I understand how Hawk is trying to make a come back, but it's the wrong and worst way of doing it. He pushed Demitri away, someone who actually cared for him enough to stand up for him when he first started Cobra Kai. For him to do that is very wrong and he deserved what was coming to him. Demitri definitely deserved a win and he did. I was rooting for them both to make a comeback, but then Hawk just went down the dark road and now I'm rooting for Demitri. Hopefully in s3 we get the real Eli back and a good 1 vs 1 fight between him and Demitri to settle the matter once and for all.
I believe Mr. Miyagi would agree that Dimitri was a true student of karate. He used to detest the idea of fighting, and only learned because he had to. He did his best to run away and only fought when necessary, incorporating signature Miyagi-Do techniques.
Guys let me say you something great the only reason demetri didn't join cobra Kai was because of Eli when Johnny made fun of Eli demetri was the only one who Said him to stop without any fear demetri is the best friend you will ever need
@@agnikaineverdies7646 a real friend wouldn't through years of friendship away over a yelp review. Second hawk could of told him how he felt, instead he attacks him and acts like a jerk.
lking1540, Demetri already knew how hawk felt, he knew hawk would come for him which is why he joined miyagi do, Demetri knew their friendship would end if he wrote that yelp review yet he wrote it anyway Secondly, Hawk did give Demetri a chance to remove the yelp review but then Demetri challenged hawk to a fight which is why he got beat up
For those people who are bitching that Hawk should of won, maybe this will give you some insight, Hawk is obviously the better fighter in this scenario, but #1 he was caught off guard by the fact that Demetri could even fight now and #2. Demetri just happened to hit him in a way that put him down quickly
Ikr, he followed Miyagi's ideas till the very end, at least he did before attacking Hawk at the football game, but he was the true Karate Kid for a while.
@@couldokun Untrue, he wants his friend to stop being a dickhead. His friend can be a cool karate guy as much as he wants, but it’s undeniable that ‘Hawk’ has become a major asshat.
I really don't understand why Demetri is disliked so much, he truly grows as a character and he does grow on you. People want this clear cookie cutter nerd who is angsty but secretly cool and handsome, the reality of it is, Demetri is a very realistic character in the very real world. He is neurotic, anxious and insecure, all this however is masked underneath his witty and sarcastic commentary. Overall he does mean well. He is a social outcast, but does want to fit it, and he does want to be with his friends. He is socially awkward and again this has a lot to do with I would say his anxiety and insecurities. He is not afraid to speak his mind and hold on to his convictions and that is something that should be praised, he is if anything honest but loyal, and like any friend is dissapointed of what his friendship with Eli has turned into. Is he perfect? Absolutely not he has his flaws and in fact is very self aware more so than the other characters, meaning he is able to see right from wrong and when things go way to far. He is often negative and again he is aware of this but he does make an effort to change and learn. He is in fact Hawk's foil in some ways, both were outcast and bullied, the difference is Hawk channeled all his pain into negative energy while Demetri held on to who he is and chose to use it to defend himself. Love both characters and both are equally fun to watch, but the severe slack Demetri gets is really awful at times.
i know, but some of the viewers seem to just be here for the fights and are indeed peanut brains. they're already trying to villanize people such as sam, johnny, daniel when finding a "culprit" has nothing to do with the show's message. it's about how there's no 'right way' to fight and that everyone makes mistakes.
Wow. I’m gonna say it. Dimitri might be an annoying millennial nerd, but in this moment, I was proud of him. He’s sure come a long way since we first met the whinny little weakling in season 1. I can’t wait to see these guys fight again in Season 3.
Nah, he is a cool character but honestly a "badass"? Lmao more like a mad kid with anger issues, he is the kind of dude that can mass shoot in a high school and believe he is a "hero" for carrying weapons and kill unarmed and innocent people
He probably won't as there is bad blood between cobra kai and myagi doo, especially now that kriese is in charge and he despises Daniel, same with miguel situtation hawks will never be a freind with someone who is a student of Daniel.
goeavs 1996, demetri suffers from a personality disorder, evident by the fact that he just says anything that comes to mind without care of how it may offend people
Demetri carefully avoided to say anything about Hawk's lips and the other really serious problems and secretes what he knows about him. I bet he knows more secrets what he revealed in public. All he wanted to show him that Hawk deep inside is Eli his friend who are in the really wrong way and it is ridicules to pretend someone to be that truly not him. That is why he mocked him in public because he hates how Eli became a bully an asshole what he truly hated when he was a nerd. I hope next season Hawk will realise that his true friend was Demitri, pure his mind and soul all of Cris sh*ts and they will be friends again. By the way Demetri has really deserved a girlfriend it would be great if he will get Jazmin. I am not sure but I think Jazmin really likes Demitri and loved how honestly and sincerely, kindly approached her. Just don't want to admitted to herself and that why she was so much dismissive with him.
Hawk reminds me of Hal Stewart from Megamind. Hawk is the type of guy who liked to hide behind other people but when given the opportunity for power he uses it for his own selfish reasons.
Hawk doesn't have balance and is always angry which is why he loses, which is the whole point of all the movies and this series. The sun is warm, the grass is green. If today Hawk-san get angry, just you repeat those words.
I love the way Johnny made hawk. Not how kreese changed hawk. With Johnny, we can see that hawk was still like Eli but more confident and popular. But with kreese, hawk he was just evil.
Honestly Dimitri might have way more potential to be a an amazing fighter. Probs even better than Daniel and robby. He just needs training. Dimitri is a very smart kid. He anticipates and can easily see through people and what they are going to do
Although Robby fought with anger, I love how Miyagi Do won Every Fight! But that switch up of Miguel showing mercy and Robby fighting dirty they're Definitely foreshadowing SOMETHING!
If Demetri had the same amount of experience as Robby, he could literally beat Miguel and Robby at the same time the fact he only laid one kick on hawk and withstood every hit hawk gave him which would normally knock the others out
Tee Tendo 64 that’s not true. When he fought Hawk. Hawk was confused and stopped thinking of how he should fight Demetri and that’s what was happening. And Hawk was already injured with cuts and bruises from previous fights he had with people whilst Demetri was being a p*ssy and running away. So a Hawk who had all his energy gathered up and was thinking straight would easily beat up Demetri. And Hawk was also recovering over the breakup with Moon.
@@awaisakhtarbois561 The breakup with Moon was weeks ago... and even if was shouldn't it fire Hawk up more to knock out the guy who ruined his relationship?
@@lking1540 Umm look closely enough, he had bruises on him before and Hawk had beaten half the kids down before going up to Demitri and clearly you may have heard this somewhere, "No matter how worse things get, you never throw someone under the bus with the personal stuff they shared with you". I don't remember exactly but pretty much this was it. Demitri backfired on their friendship by throwing hawk under the bus that too in the public. Tell me who wouldn't get angry if they were publicly pointed out and made fun of. Hawk had a dark past and was bullied he asserted dominance anywhere he thought he could so that no one messes up with him again. Hawk was bullied more than Demitri would ever be.
This dynamic is going to be SO IMPORTANT for future seasons. Hawk fully embraces "Strike First, Strike Hard, No Mercy" while Demetri shows us "Karate is for defense only". We saw cracks in Hawk's persona when he opened up to Demetri about missing his old interests, and when he sees that his behavior lost him his girlfriend and that she won't take him back the way he is. These are the things which can lead Hawk to just being a confident and physically fit Eli. But we see with Demetri that he doesn't want to fight, become a badass, he just wants to be able to defend himself if people try to hurt him. And that is exactly what he does, and he does it exactly as Miyagi would have wanted- he tries a non violent resolution by finding a teacher, he tries to run away, and only when he has no other choice does he fight back and he exclusively blocks until he finishes it with 1 hit. I have a problem with him doing a kick which requires precision, flexibility, and strength to knock out the best or 2nd best fighter in Cobra Kai which Demetri just does not have. They should have let Hawk's poor defense and high risk offense (like his occasionally used superman punch) run him into a more believable counter attack which floors him as he has already taken hits from his other fights. In season 3, Hawk is going to be on the hunt and Demetri can't get lucky every time. But since everything is so focused around Daniel, Johnny, Sam, Robbie, Miguel, and Tory, they may not be willing to devote the time and writing to the actually interesting character dynamics.
In season 3 teaser we saw hawk looking to ground and there were blood on his hands. My theory is they maybe did rematch and Demetri didnt win also Hawk shocked what he did to his friend
I have a feeling its Johnny, but we will see. Johnny obviously got in a SERIOUS fight with someone that landed him in jail until probably Daniel bails him out. And I'm thinking he went back to the dojo to confront Kreese and instead ends up fighting Hawk and either doesn't defend himself from the enraged teen, or legitimately gets beaten into the ground and Hawk is looking at what he did to the man who made him who he is and taught him almost everything he knows.
I like this analysis!! I didn't think about that when I watched the episode, that he literally resorts to fighting as a last resort (Demetri). But yeah I think alongside Johnny's relationships with Miguel, Daniel, Kreese ... Hawk/Demetri's dynamic and storyline lifts this show up for me. I really hope they get the focus and resolution they deserve, over annoying love triangles that don't do the girls justive either.
@@LydiaIsSweet across the series, we don't see many redemption arcs. Only Daniel in KK3 starts to go a tiny bit dark and comes back. So it would be great to see Hawk get brought back to being respectable and learning that better path that all the OG Cobra Kai fighters didn't learn until they were older adults.
Demitri outed him as a bed wetter, no matter how much you have beef with a friend, you don't do that. I have secrets about a friend that could destroy their music career, I'm taking it to the grave. Sorry, but Demitri wasn't the bigger person, he was actually behaving like a bully and wanted to embarrass Hawk because he left him. Demitri is upset that Hawk flipped the script and became confident, got the girl, has friends and a purpose. I'm not saying that Hawk doesn't need help, cos clearly he does but he's being manipulated by Kreese who has a knack for finding weak boys to make them Into macho men and controlling them. I'm glad Demitri defended himself but his behaviour is just as bad as Hawk's and the high school bullies.
No. Hawk didn't "just leave him" , he bullied and dismissed him Poorly. He's shitty. Kid thinks he's a badass but he's just butthurt. He could've gone from loser to Chad but he went from loser to WIMPY loser. The martial arts creates the illusion that he's badass but he's really just a terrible human being. He deserved to be called out. I noticed he kept his ugly mouth shut when he was being slammed by demetri. And that's what had to be done. (Sadly it only worked temporarily 🤣) but anyways...... You gotta be rough on people sometimes. besides , Exposing a bed wetter isn't gonna ruin their life. Eli deserved much worse. If this were irl he would've been humiliated all over social media for all this temper tantrum bullshit. Nobody irl thinks that's cute. He looks like a whiny bitch🤣.
Did you just watch this clip or did you see what hawk did before this. Don't forget hawk was his best friend who turned into a bully and multiple times tried to beet the crap out a him for no real reason. That's much worse then outing someone as a bed wetter. That being said its easy to see why eli had the biggest transformation he had it worse then anyone else and if he loses what he has now it could all go back to the way it was for him. That would mess up anyone
Hawk has not revealed Demitri's deep dark secrets, and D just wanted to bring him down a peg or 2 which is not being the bigger person and you just stoop to the same levels. He has to accept that Hawk has made this decision to flip the script and move away from being the bullied nerd. If Hawk ends up dark, with no friends that's his problem. Demitri is no better than him, he hates that he's lost a friend, a nerd buddy, he's alone and that hurts and hurt leads to this kinda behaviour. Yeah I've watched both series several times. 😁
Angie x I’ve been in the situation where I beat up my bullies and stopped being the bullied nerd. Quite like hawk I learned karate, and when my brother was being bullied by one of my bullies I stepped up. My nerd friend instead of learning to stand up for himself decided to double down (we ended up in different schools) . And no amount of help I tried to give him worked instead he pushed me away as a bad influence, why? Cus I abandoned the childish mentality we had. Hawk wanted demetri to get strong like him. But demitri instead wanted to bring hawk down and prevent him from changing out from the loser he was. Let’s remember demetri loved to remind them of how much of a loser they all were. And at every turn trash talked hawks transformation or cobra Kai which was having such a positive impact in him. It sucks to see your friend who was with you when you were low get jealous when you get out of the loser bracket. And it sucks worse when you feel he wishes to bring you right back In there for their own selfish reasons. Attempting to hurt cobra Kai knowing your friends patronage was supposed to do what exactly? The only real bully here was demetri who couldn’t leave hawk or cobra Kai alone.
I'm not from the US, but how the hell a guy like Demitri could be unpopular at the school? I mean, he's funny and very outgoing. Perhaps in the 80s the stereotype of the nerd was very notorious but today it goes unnoticed, there're a lot of people like Demitri
I really hated seeing Hawk lose to Demetri. It makes sense storywise since they somehow have to make them evenly clash in order to either break off completely the friendship or mend it later on, but as a fan I hated seeing Hawk lose to him. Demetri to me isnt the bullied geek who got betrayed by his friend, hes just the lazy geek who is jealous of his friend when he finally started making something out of himself. Hawk even tried to stick with him and to inspire him into staying in the Cobra Kai dojo, but Demetri just spit on it because it was too difficult for him. I do hope Demetri matures more on the next season, and that Hawk tones down on that suppressed anger he obviously has been holding on to for years, so that they become friends again.
Hawk turns into a major Asshole in season 2 though. Demetri is supposed to be wimpy and annoying but I think that's part of his character arc. I started hating Hawk the second he genuinely tried to beat his supposed friend over a bad yelp review. Nobody should care about yelp reviews that much.
Hawk deserved to get destroyed by Demetri. I was waiting for the moment they were going to fight & when I saw him get his ass kicked it was so satisfying. Demetri gave him way too many chances and at the party when Hawk poured his drink on Demetri I would’ve been like that was his last chance. He doesn’t deserve Demetri. Besides Hawk is crazy and so is Tory, they both tried to kill their opponents. They both belong in a mental hospital. Edit: Tory with a y
It wasnt just a bad yelp review in Hawk's eyes. It was a kick to a small dojo struggling financially that made Hawk happy, gave him confidence, friends and goals. And it came from the very person that dragged him down for years. Friends dont do that, but Demetri did.
Demetri was willing to give cobra kai a 2nd try but then John Kreese assaulted him. Cobra Kai just wasn't the right place for him and he needed someone like Daniel Larusso who had the patience and time for him. John Kreese is just a lunatic and should NEVER be allowed to teach Karate at all and if Johnny Lawrence wasn't daft enough to let him back in then maybe, just maybe Demetri would have joined cobra kai
@@Sexyoldgeraldorivera That's still no reason to gang-assault a guy you damn well know can't defend himself lol. Hawk is a maniac and a coward, and he deserved to go down. God, I wanted to tell Demitri to stop. But no. he went for the jugular with the roast. But as someone mentioned, not once did Demitri mention the lip.
Don't care of what u think. Hawk makes Demetri is pussy in season 3
No he won because hawk beat up 50 people before fighting demetri
@@cagegames4755 That could be one of the reasons, as that would play into him not thinking of a strategy due to being exhausted. However, I think they were trying to show how much Demetri improved over time and his usage of Miyagi-Do teachings.
Also Hawk definitely underestimated him. He didn’t expect Demetri to do anything back
Never let your guard down because an enemy is weaker than you.

SalemGhassanHanna, Dimitri is the one who betrayed hawk first by joining miyagi do u dipshit.
SalemGhassanHanna, hawk didn’t abandon Dimitri until the yelp review

True. I loved Hawk before he became Hawk, but honestly, he deserved getting his ass handed to him. I understand how Hawk is trying to make a come back, but it's the wrong and worst way of doing it. I love hawk but I knew this was Demetri’s moment.

I couldn’t explain it any better

The win in s2 made no sense.
Hawk was perfectly trained for that 1 on 1.
I could understand if robby was his last enemy in that scene.
But demetri
And what Demetri said in the review was absolutely true by the way. He is supposed to be the straight man in a goofy world where everyone suddenly knows karate and use it to fight like it's fucking duel monsters in the yu-gi.-oh anime, of course he is going to complain about an old man kicking the shit out of him for no reason instead of, you know, telling him to get out of his property like any sane human being would.
Kids murdering each other
The students: 👁👄👁🤳🏻
This is how you know Dimitri is savage
I was so happy when he did this!!
We just gonna ignore how Demetri took two blows from an engaged sociopath?
Enraged but tired, and Demetri was nervous and focused, it was an egg crashing against a wall.
Who’s Hawk engaged to? Moon?
The fact that Demitri wasn’t dead after that got me blown away
1:39 his Bakugou just came out
Stolen
DAMN THAT CRESCENT KICK THOUGH!!!
"No hard feelings" beats the sh!t outta Hawk (Eli) THAT'S MY DUDE
Stfu that was a lucky kick
I think you are just sucking on hawks place where the sun doesn't shine
I love math humor😭 lmaooo
"Sorry Eli."
SAVAGE DEMETRI!! 🔥
Demetri is the Real karate kid
Okay here’s my perspective on the Dimitri Eli friendship.
Yup, that was so lame to have Hawk taken down by Demetri. Total bullshit!
Eli had no body else except demetri, he was all alone. He joins a dojo and then he just ditches the one friend who was always there for him when no one else was. That's a bad friend, if it really mattered than Eli could of told dimitri how he felt, except no he ends up attacking them and acts like a jerk. Even after dimitri forgave him and tried to make amends.
lking1540 Exactly! He let his new appearances and skills define his attitude. He clearly stopped being friends with Dimitri and hates any fact Dimitri spat out. His ego was always hurt by the truth that he’s a foul, self centred bully
@@mrhaz8939 yeah, I get what you're saying.
lking1540 Thank you, this whole bully is the hero and hero is the bully nonsense that started since the original Karate Kid made me think there were no intelligent thoughts out there. Demetri is no saint but Demetri still tried to be Hawk’s friend even after Hawk changed but after he became more popular and let it go to his head, he abandoned Demetri and it was about time someone put him in his place, especially after his cheapshot on Robby in the tournament. Thoroughly enjoyed this scene. A highlight of season 2.
