there was an interview a while back where he said it was fairly easy. Something along the lines of coloring in a kids coloring book because the outline of the songs were so brilliantly put together. He said the hardest part was narrowing down the playlist. (it was at least 15 years ago so I don't remember the exact wording)
When they revisited this, but with another orchestra in 2019, the feeling was different. It was good, but the conductors (two of them) simply were not as innovative or talented. They were good, but not to the level as Kamen.
I was fortunate enough to have been there both nights. People never believe me when I tell them that to this very day, whenever I hear the intro to this and the violins come in, the hairs on both my arms and my neck stand straight up. RIP Michael. A true legend. We sure miss you.
Lucky! Saw them in San Antonio in 2017. I'm from there. There's something special when Metallica comes to town and even more special when it's YOUR town.
@@cantputmyrealname5195 they're called the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra so its both. Also symphony isnt a different term for an orchestra its just the music they compose.
This is the single most amazing way to end this concert. Battery, huge climax, cut it, "THANK YOU FANSSSS, YEAH!!" and then just roars. Chills. The love the SFSO gets is incredible. Well done all around.
the last era of Lars' live drumming. @ 4:21 Jason's back vocals got James' respect that night. When James comes back up to the mic he's looking over at Jason like fuck yeah
I know damn well he would have!! He loved classical music, and not only was this their way of trying something different, it was their way of paying homage to him. Imho, it doesn't get any better than that. #Metallicafan4life

Two things. 1. What the fuck, James. Imagine being able to play this fucking song and sing it at the same time. This song is hard to play in the guitar. So yeah. Fucking wow. 2. Lars sounds out of this fucking world. I love the sound of the drums here. Remember, this song is hard to play, fast and easy to loose the beat, and being the last song of this concert. Wow. Say whatever you like about Lars today, but here, HE'S THE FUCKING GOAT.
As I may have said. I had 33 boots (bootleg CD's of Metallica ) 83~94 title: Tearing your insides out And it was put out by an Italian company called kts Well it turns out it's the miltin Keynes. Just a killer concert Like the 2 cd 93 concert that DIDN'T, include sandman
If S&m3 happened, I would love to hear a version of Metallica’s one, with only James on Vocals! I think it would sound really cool if they did the whole song with just James singing with just the orchestra behind him.
How is there only 33 comments on this video, the only explaniation is that everyone that watched it went on a headbanging rampage about town and forgot.
Even Michael Kamen couldn’t hold back with the “Fuckin Batt-er-y!” Mad respect for that man.
4:32 And Kamen was like "fucking BATTERY!" xD
Amazing
😅😅😅💪
Man this intro was something epic... Rest In Peace Michael Kamen, One of the great composers.
Whole song should be like that
Too right he did an amazing job here especially
💯
Shit sounds like it came outta Vivaldi. So beautiful.
Epic goddamn intro, man. Kamen was a genius.
Kamen was such an fricken amazing composer! I couldn’t agree more
Way different than S&M2, Michael Kamen was an absolute intelligent.
James: “cannot kill the”
Jason: “BATTERY!!!”
Jason's energy on this track was always huge!
The intro should be part of a movie!
Zelda
its in project x lol
Reminds me of The Prince of Egypt lol
Yeah, and call of the cthulhu should be the Main Theme of a Monster movie
Jason’s grin and head bobble at 2:30 never fails to delight me.
It’s his favourite song to perform
@@jackmin6397 yeah cuz this song actually has bass in it
That intro gives me goosebumps every, single, time. 🤘😎🤘
This intro and the intro for For Whom the Bell Tools are the best in S&M!
It’s beautiful and epic
As a composer for fun I can’t really fathom how Kamen came up with so many countermelodies for pre-existing songs, it’s super impressive

That background scream, man. I think Rob is a perfect replacement for Jason, but Jason's backing vocals are sorely missed.

The album version from puppets is perfect. This is perfecter.
I love Jason and all... But with Cliff it would have been perfectest!
Ola k. K
Who, Michael Kamen?
Perfectest description
@@JeremiasDK Cliff would've probably pushed them to do an entire studio album and tour with an orchestra at some point
4:43 to 4:55...
The outro riff mixed with the violins...
Fuckin' Spine-chilling!
Metallica ruling the World since 1981!
🤟
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this song. Sounds so amazing with the orchestra. Very powerful and moving. The first S&M was soooooo much better than the second S&M.
HEY THIS IS A SYMPHONY NOT AN ORCHESTRA

@@cantputmyrealname5195 Sorry. Just enjoying the magic they both have created here.

He says "thank you friends, yeah".
the best intro ever.
for me this is the coolest song of that show, amazing collaboration and great idea to mix 2 genres.
Yes
the last era of Lars' live drumming.

Jason’s vocal contributions to the live Metallica sound will always be underappreciated.

Fucking battery, chuj
2:57 that metal handshake of the century
YEEAH LARS ! THAT DOUBLE BASS KICK ASS
I love the entirety of the S&M album but the intro bassoon solo still makes my hair stand on end. Love this song so much
jasoooooooooooooooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn we miss you
The beginning of this always gives me goosebumps till the day.
One of the most tight performances.
As someone that bought S&M as a kid as a bit of a Greatest Hits collection: this was my gateway into their thrash era
2023 is going to be the "battery" 's year , the lyrics are so powerful ....
the harp is beautiful
@4:29 gives me fucking goosebumps and chokes me up. James’ look over and the scream that came from Jason as he kinda faded back from the camera…. Man
OMG I'm speechless. I miss jason
favorite Battery rendition live..so sick..intro so good
Any rock band who plays well with an orchestra is a great band in my book.
Cool intro by the orchestra battery rocks
I bet Cliff would have loved this!

the Best Battery song version.
I am a fan of Metallica,I have everything good to say about them.
i hear the double bass from lars very good. yeah
The orchestra in combination is just fit with guitar and dram
just one word for them. "monsters"
I love the little growl at 1:16
Best damn Energizer bunny commercial hahaha
Awesome tension building up there in the intro 💯
Feels great to be alive and yes I will show you jam3s alex lightning
I absolutely love this version!
The intro always reminded me of Super Metroid, Brinstar Red Soil.. if it was orchestrated
