I love how it's implied Aki saw that pile of flesh in a room, so he closed the door, walked back to the room they're staying, asked for a F*CKING cigarette, and only then he warned everyone about the devil, his calm amuses me
Aki has been doing this shit for three years. And he's clearly the most reliable and stable person in the crew. Even Himeno, who has been doing it longer than him, leans on him. She doesn't start to crack until Aki gets stabbed. So he absolutely saw that thing and decided "fuck this noise, I need a cigarette."
Aki when he sees the big ass eternity devil: "WHAT THE FU- I'M OUT OF CIGARETTES???!!"

In terms of adaptation, this is a section that really benefitted from being lifted into animation. they're being so cinematic with the anime and I'm really impressed so far.
It's so good to hear you guys laughing so many times during the episode, that's what I'm saying, this show grows on people.
It's often very, very funny. Like, funnier than most things trying to be funny imo.

Pretty fun that this is the first conceptual Devil. The episode was a lot of build up, It showed off Kobeni and Arai as useless under pressure, it focused on fleshing out the characters of Aki and Himeno, and it showed Denji actually seem to give a shit about someone else and panic a bit when Aki got stabbed.
Also their hasn't been a proper fight scene in two episodes. So i'm going to bet this next episode is going to be pretty wild.
Denji was the only one who kept his cool and figured out power could save him with her devil powers.
I love your Chainsaw Man reactions but they feel so short. I can't wait for the next one. You are part of those few anime only reactors that really get this series and it's humor.
I keep reading that Kobeni is a fan favorite...it must be one helluva 180 she pulls!

The deal was that to feed Denji to the eternity devil, so all of them should be free but only problem is that they forgot to make a contract. They panic and try to kill Denji. And Denji sacrifice himself to it. They probably will be stuck till Denji do something.

You brought up The Shining. I haven't looked into it, but that could have been intentional. Fujimoto, the mangaka, is a huge cinema fan. Classic films, blockbusters, American and Japanese films, B movies, and just about everything else. So it wouldn't be out of the question that this arc was inspired by The Shining.
Also, worth noting that Power is inspired by Eric Cartman.
Now I understand when fujimoto said that Power's personality was inspired by Walter Sobchak from the big lebowski and Eric Cartman from South Park
