I need to work more on the groups of 2 or more ...😊 Great video with all the information needed to find and drive the drivable trails. One thing to note for people not familiar with PA mountains...snow sticks around a lot longer at elevation on North facing slopes. And can really turn that leisurely day into a long walk out. Thanks for making the videos you do. This is great information without the fluff...i love it!
@@BradCMSP on the PA DCNR site, they have public use maps that clearly show drivable trails. These trails also have corresponding signs at the trailhead and are not gated. You can also use the Purple Lizard maps as they collaborate with DCNR on maps created for PA state forests
We’ve been on a few of these. They’re not overly challenging, but can be quite fun. I’ve also been on some forest roads that are in rough shape, worse than the drivable trails.
Great info! For 2024 I going to [try to] peel myself away from NJ and do more wheel'n in PA. Weiser's Port Clinton tract is first up for me. Gives me an excuse to visit the Cabela's in Hamburg 😎
Cabella’s is fun. On the way to AOAA off-road park too. I’ve not been through much of Weiser, but am eager for the motorized recreation trails at the Catawissa tract to open.
@@moodsofoverland you just made my day... "The 5,541-acre Catawissa Recreation Area in Weiser State Forest in Schuylkill and Luzerne counties is being developed for motorized recreation. It will be the first in the Pennsylvania state forest system." This is GREAT news. PA I hoping is starting to get it.
@@moodsofoverland NJ is doing alright in my book. I spend most of my time in the Pine Barrens... 1 million square miles of public free to use off pavement areas for regular licensed vehicles. I'll take that over the ATV oriented PA scheme and having to pay for private parks. Of course, the ATV and SxS owners over there aren't happy so I get it (I meet a lot of people who don't license because they live close or just trailer in). You really should be able to use either. If PA continues to open up more areas to regular 4x4 vehicles hopefully it will encourage me to do more rock crawling instead of mall crawling.
@@KeithCPerry did you know in a week and a half NJ DEP is gonna publish a draft motorized use map that likely closes most of the roads in Wharton State Forest in The Pines to motorized use? I’m in The Pines all the time, but NJ is much less friendly to motorized recreation than PA. Here’s the link if you want to attend the public presentation or check it online. I’m encouraging everyone who enjoys The Pines to weigh in via public comment. nj.gov/dep/parksandforests/wharton/
I just found your channel and I’m just cross the border in New York. I would like to explore some of your forest. I have found the purple lizard maps but I don’t know which one to order and I’ve also been to the state website and don’t know how to find their maps, could you help me? Thanks!
this is exactly what i’ve been looking for, thx!!!

PADCNR website map shows this trail as hiking only. How can you confirm legality? I'd like to explore more but don't need to speak with a fish cop...

Yeah, most are not that challenging unless there’s weather. Always fun to add some to a trip!
Nice one! I liked the big mud puddle😁
Thanks! It was one of the more shallow ones!
Nice Informational Video Dave!

@@KeithCPerry I just wish they got it done last year as originally planned! PA DCNR definitely gets it. I wish NJ would wise up.

Are you permitted to trailer your side-by-side to the PA State forrest and ride these trails?
Good question. No, but some PA state forests do have ATV trail systems.

On each state forest page on the DCNR site you should see a link for maps. Download the public use map.
Get a Purple Lizard map for what forest you are in.
Yes! Awesome maps. They show the drivable trails as well.
