Hello Amber and Charisse and welcome to Voice of Baceprot! They grew up in a small rural village in West Java and faced many cultural/religious obstacles based on gender/age/music preference (rock/metal). They wanted more options than only early marriage or shop keeper, etc, so they started reading (a LOT, their early practice space had lots of books) and gained confidence in speaking up and questioning established doctrines. One of the books they read was Bukan Perawan Maria by Feby Indirani, an Indonesian writer. This book also questioned doctrines (so much so that the writer couldn't find a publisher initially) and inspired the song PMS. PMS (Perempuan Merdeka Seutuhnya) / Completely Free (Independent) Woman Standing in the arms of your mind Is killing all my time Your loud dogma is just a ruse To shackle all the fools Assenting all the filth you throw My inner voice starts to die Trapped in your heart that's hollow My differences, you vilify You're so high.. To even think that heaven was made for you Mock those in sight Demonize me, with hell you threw Chorus : Even though not as virgin(al) as Maria (Mary) I'm not a slave to your rotten brain Even though not as virgin(al) as Maria (Mary) I am free, completely free Yeah, I refuse your hell of lust And suddenly the world turns just Oh, how I long for a life of bliss And finally, put my mind at ease I never needed, all of your stupid fascist words What I long, is a peaceful world of colors
Me too... fan for both superbs Girls Power Trio's - Voice of Baceprot from Indonesia and The Warning Rock Band from Mexico. Both Band have owned unique identical sounds of music 🎶. Lively and entertaining joyful watching and listening to both groups.
PMS stands for Perempuan Merdeka Seutuhnya [ women who are completely independent ] This song was actually written by Marsya (vocals, guitar), Widi (bass), and Sitti (drums) during high school around 2017 together with their counseling teacher and mentor Abah Erza. “We write songs fueled by the residual energy we leave after school. At that time, we were very enthusiastic about school activities, so basically we had to drag ourselves to the studio for workshops,” recalls Marsya. PMS is an expression of VOB's antipathy, displeasure, and anger towards their current situation, both lyrically and musically. Despite the conditions they were in, there wasn't a trace of fatigue in the songs they produced. The main inspiration behind the lyrics of "PMS" comes from a series of short stories written by Indonesian writer Feby Indirani entitled "Bukan Perawan Maria" [ Not the Virgin Mary ]. This single focuses on VOB's protest against discriminatory and judgmental behavior that tends to be aimed at women who have different mindsets, perspectives, attitudes, and even desires or dreams compared to the norm. Departing from a region where social norms are heavily influenced by not only religious values but also patriarchy, the VOB has had its fair share of gender-based discrimination in the past. The absence of post-high school life options for many girls other than marriage will be one of them. The same goes for career options, which are limited for VOBs and their peers due to gender discrimination. "Ironically, it's not just men who would display such behavior, but our fellow women as well!" Marsya commented. Voice of Baceprot (VoB) is one of the Indonesian metal band groups that speak out loud about social issues. Marsya, the vocalist, revealed that the songs were explored from everyday experiences to reading references. "Experience Becomes Inspiration Voice of Baceprot Expresses Social Criticism Through Metal Songs" Firdda "Marsya" Kurnia [Vocalist and Guitarist, born 2000] Widi Rahmawati [bass player, born 2001] Euis Siti Aisyah [ Drummer, born 2000 ]

VoB is a form of resistance to modern colonialism that often occurs. Their songs convey voices that have previously been taboo to express. Even in their song entitled Rumah Tanah Tak Dijual (means house and the land not for sale), it really represents the current struggle of people from Rempang, Batam Island, Indonesia, where the people there are struggling for not expulsion from their homeland because of the cruelty of the government who wants to sell the island to foreign investors.
They are bringing punk lyrical matters into metal and that is awesome! Cuz I love the messenging on punk but not a fan of the rest of the style so this is a great combo
Thank you so much Amber and Charisse...GBU❤❤❤
