Karen Hunter, thank you for your hard hitting program. I was interested, then offended and then better informed. I've been shutting down or redirecting conversations that invoke the two sides or the other side idea. There are billions of sides at the least. It can be exhausting to explain or reset to a greater context. I'm 74, part Apache, southern European and that brings other influences by historical definition. It matters for a host of reasons how I engage with all manner others because I still wrestle with anger, inner and outer conflicts, and a waning resilience. You challenge my thought and soul process by giving me new insights as tools to have more meaningful and edifying experiences with those I disagree with, including myself. Black folks should support black businesses during Black Friday weekend (Nov 28 - Dec 2). We ought to create a black economic movement and then let the markets speak for us in the wake of the election. A second would be to only shop at establishments that supported Harris/Walz only second to black businesses, e.g., Target/Lowe’s instead of Walmart/home depot. We should rely less on others who are beholding to white media and retail establishments and get the attention on us - black people …as a force to be reckoned with.

The discussion in critically important, but I also find it very problematic. You are blessed to have a platform that allows you journalistic freedom. Every newscaster is not a sellout. In spite of the network, there are some that are still engaged in journalism and exposing corruption, although they do NOT have the same degree of journalistic freedom as you. And, it was a hard won fight for us to get into some of these rooms. We need some eyes and ears in these spaces. As someone who was born into apartheid Jim Crow Georgia and saw the tail end of it, I am aware of all the multi-layered levels of racism and the difference between integration and assimilation, and assimilation has been our down fall. I grew up on the same street as Jessye Norman and Andre Golden, Mill Street. We all attended Mt. Calvary Baptist Church and sang on the same choir. At times, Jessye Norman would walk me to church on Sunday's my grandmother had to work. We attended Charles T Walker elementary school. I grew up and matured during the civil rights movement, and lived in New York during the time of Angela Davis and saw Malcolm on top of soap boxes. I purchased my books from the Liberation Book Store. I am acutely aware of our history, politics, the time we are living in, and I have a concern about this segment clip and the photo used to make the point. When we blanketly "appear" to characterize "all" cable news anchors as being unethical and puppets, it is disingenuous and helps to spread a dangerous narrative. There is a lot of evil, darkness, and deception in this country and in this world, to be sure. However, part of how Trump and the elite has made such inroads is by laying down a foundation of "deep" distrust of institutions and the media at an extreme. We know we have been enslaved and systemically disenfranchised, an abomination to GOD. However, when we have the elites, running everything and speaking with a forked tongue, we have to be extremely careful. They have used "the deep state and fake news" as galvanizing forces when they are the very ones setting up a AN AUTHORITARIAN DEEP STATE AND FAKE NEWS that is going to be devasting and dangerous, particularly to Black Americans. This propaganda (though we know there is some truth to it) has been weaponized against us. And we cannot afford to participate in assisting them in their agenda by speaking about the media in such a fragmented way. I know there is only so much that can be discussed in one segment. But, there needs to be balance or at the very least, an opportunity for the listener to know that "Every Anchor" is NOT a bad actor. There are some who are pushing the boundaries and may be fired for it. And, there are many who are already targets of Trump and his cronies like Kash Patel who he wants to place as FBI director. He has promised to go against and prosecute the media and free press who have not been supporters of Donald Trump and who have reported the news, especially on his criminal proceedings without favoring him. As you know, they intend to replace government workers with Trump loyalists, just as the Supreme Court has been stacked. THE VERY POWER BROKERS who are bringing authoritarianism here are the same ones who have always been there. The difference is that they have convinced a huge number of us to be complicit in calling forth for this "AUTHORITARIAN DEEP STATE" tethered to "A STACKED AUTHORITARIAN LEANING SUPREME COURT". THEY have planted such seeds of distrust and paranoia into the public sphere that there are people won't even listen to the news at all. Many of us don't have analytical critical thinking skills because it was deliberately removed from curricula although taught in predominantly White and upper class schools as a matter of necessary for educational excellence and success. Many of us have absolutely NO knowledge of civics or how the government works, making us easily manipulated emotionally. Educational level does NOT prevent or exclude us from wisdom, knowledge, and understanding.... including political acumen. We came out of slavery without formal education, but we managed to educate ourselves on what was taking place during our subjugation, Reconstruction, and beyond. We may have been "illiterate" during slavery, but we were politically and spiritually literate and astute. We were those invisible men and women, ignored, seen as inferior and little more than brute beasts with sharp ears and eyes. We served them as the elites spoke politics, local and national issues, and matters of importance. Sadly, although Black women have the distinction of being the most educated of the populace and most avid readers, there remains a large segment that do not like to read, have a short attention spans (deliberately interjected into society via video games, television sitcoms, small bite visual stimulation). And, as a result, they are drawn to sensationalism and sound bites on social media. We know that Russia and other power brokers have flooded the internet and social media with propaganda, deception, false information, and outright lies directly targeting Black people. It has manipulated far too many of us into becoming more deeply distrustful and disengaged to an unhealthy degree that is impacting our communities for generations. The Chevron case is going to impact our community more than any other. It has essential given large corporations free reign to do whatever the want without governmental oversight. They can pollute the water, the air, and more without regulatory agencies having any teeth whatsoever. They have convinced us that regulatory agencies and Federal laws are against our best interest. They have placed the power back into the hands of the states, like NC, SC, Mississippi, Tennessee, Georgia and others who are daily enacting laws to disenfranchise us and render us almost as legally and politically powerlessness as we were during the Civil Rights movement in a practical sense. Maybe worse since the Supreme Court has made their position clear. The degree of social media generated apathy and/or hopelessness has kept many of us on the couch which played a role in Trump winning a second term in spite of and despite his lack of character and criminality to say the least. Many of us don't know what it is to listen to or read "real" journalism. Much of it may have been biased, but we could tune in and find out what was happening in the world. Our standards have been lowered by design. This has caused many of us to run to social media for "news" when much of it is nothing more than opinion and manipulation. Everyone has an opinion and a right to one. The problem is that many people cannot tell the difference between commentary and news. And honestly, many people find "the News" "the Facts" boring and want something salacious or sensational to add some flavor to it in order for it to be digestible. We are living in one of the most critical moments of our lifetime as well as our history here as Black Americans. We cannot afford to assist enable and push the narrative of an extremists hate-filled movement to usher in An Authoritarian Autocracy. And that is what people knowingly and unknowingly voted for.

Who can we trust. Not most. We truly need to bring on and interview the BM and BW who are involved in and have a history of working and volunteering in the Black communities, ie, the brotha who has been honorably working at the community center for 35 years. This does, however, require us to let go of our own elitism. I know BM and BW who think you’re stupid and worthless if you don’t have a master’s or doctorate degree, therefore, your opinions, ideas, and concerns are invalid.

@UncleRoams your comment is spot on. The myth of the Talented Tenth is so compromised, even DuBois had to dismiss it and embrace a Marxist class based analysis of the color line problem. The black working class is awakening to the failure of historic Black churches, Black sororities, fraternity, NAACP, Urban League ,National Action Network, Roland Martin, the CBC and any and all others who are bought and paid for by corporate Democratic Party and Big Pharma donors. The black professional/managerial class has been exposed finally! The Emperor has no clothes and The Wiz is impotent. The revolution could not be televised! Let real advocacy for disagregation and communal repair begin!

It seems like it's all about their own individual benefit & status. If we're at the table what the Hell are we talking about? We need to use our power. Im so tired of being tired and disgusted. I have been a voracious information junkie since I was old enough to read. I had a Sunday routine for almost 5 decades. I had our local daily newspaper delivered; my weekend gift was a trip to a local news stand for both Chicago papers, as well as both Detroit along with the NYT. I could then sit down in the evening and consume all the goodies on my printed buffet. Now my local paper is owned by USA Today, I periodically glance over the Chicago/Detroit online, and haven't read a New York Times in years. My media choices have dwindled down to just a few, like Joy Reid, Lawrence O'Donnell and one of two others at MSNBC. I have stopped watching CNN, due to the increased appearances of Scott Jennings, as well as Dana Bash. I think by 2028, it won't matter, since I might just look for a one-bedroom studio cave in which to dwell.

We have to be willing to read more long pieces and watch longer news. Broadcast media doesn’t cover a lot of what is going on and without much depth unless it's feature length piece or interview.
Even online articles are typically short and not comprehensive. Social media is even shorter for..

What's sad to me is that I go out here and grind on a daily basis send when I have a chance I usually will come to social media and see what is going on. Up until November the 7th 2024 I listen to some of these people in the rhetoric that they spewed. I'm thinking they're providing me with vital information to help me when the reality is they're just spreading fear and confusion. Then that go and sit with their colleagues on the other side of the aisle eating filet mignon drinking the best wines receiving the top awards meanwhile regular folks like me are anxious and feeling hopeless. Even in Congress there are members on certain platforms where the article reads so and so called out Trump or so and so called out gabbert. My thought since having my eyes opened is that for years since Trump was in office before people have been talking about the things he's doing that are negative but no one does anything about it. Even when things could be done they wasn't. It's sad that the news media and Congress and people in positions running this world want us regular people to simply play Red Rover with ourselves. They want us to be mad at each other when the reality is they're the problem.
