I hear often people talking about glyphs being 30 feet high not understanding that in some cases the land was so different 3 to 5 thousand years ago and some of the glyphs appear to be high but that may indeed have been at the water level at that time as the earth changed over the centuries. Also as many earth quakes over the years can change the landscape as well. Something to consider at any rate.
Great experiment. Next step is try it with flint rocks. The petroglyphs scratched into the rock are understandable. The ones that are actually deep grooves and several feet high are mind boggling, how long they would have taken. These people witnessed something important enough to try to record for the ages. All the Ancients knew that only stone survives for thousands of years. Look at the Hammurabi Stela in the Louvre, carved into the hardest of basalt. The image is impressive but look at the cuneiform below the semi-relief.
Carl...happy holidays to you and your wonderful family and viewers. We wish the very best for you. BTW..your paintings blow me off...I am a painter too. Maybe let your local stores, restaurant have a painting to hang and it will advertise your paintings. You are a natural hand painter. Good luck brother
Lard makes cutting easier. I was a professional fetish carver using a Dremel tool for over 30 years with silicon carbide disc and sintered diamond points instead of encrusted. Stone slabbing saws use oil coolant.
Well done for freehand work, though if you were going for full accuracy, why didn't you do a pencil stencil of the original lines from the art onto the rock surface?
Carving is a great idea but copying petroglyphs would be cultural appropriation unless somehow you get permission from the relevent indigenous community authorities.
Hammerstones are used for pecking ... these are like gemstones in fine texture & hardly show a session in wear. So, near glyphs look for hammerstones with a teardrop like shape, pecking is a learned art, practice spirals to see why. Fwiw🍺

Might I suggest masonry bits? *shrug* just a thought
Carl, The Earth was full of strong people, and the rocks are said to have been softer. Never mind replicating carving stone.

Great vid! Thanks! I’ve been wanting to do the same.
Good replica Carl. They must have used lots of rock to carve or the rocks were softer enough ones ago!,

Tardigrades are the oldest living life forms-our Creator. Humans are a species of worm. THE MOTHMAN is our God. Our Creator is not GOD.
