When we come to Portugal for a visit, we use the train several times a week! We love it! I have the CP app on my phone, its easy to use. We are always pleasantly shocked by how cheap it is to travel by train. We live in Canada where public transit is painful (Nova Scotia) the cost of a train ticket here is ridiculously priced. That litte 3 car train has been a lifesaver for us. We've taken it from one end of the Algarve to the other numerous times and its a pleasure.
Good job as usual Nick! We took the train to Silves last week for the fair. While it wasn't 'in' Silves and the walk looked daunting on the map, it actually was not that bad. Some parts were a bit sketchy and we did walk in front of a truck crossing the highway to get to the bridge without seeing the button to change the light, our mistake (we saw it on the way back). However the walk gives an excellent view of Silves when you crest the hill on the other side of the river. In short, great prices, was only 10 minutes behind schedule, the train itself was ok, the windows were an issue, the locals definitely use it like a subway there were several people that got groceries in Silves and were heading home. Special note, we found riding backwards gave us better views as things went past than riding facing the front, no explanation for it.
As you mentioned, the condition of the windows, diminishes the visibility. But, when an area is new to you, it’s still pleasant to look out the window. You’re just jaded and spoiled. 😜 I’ve taken trains in Norway and Switzerland, beautiful landscapes and clear windows. Still, somewhere between Portimão and Faro, as you get closer to Faro, the scent of the orange groves hits you (mid June). It’s so beautiful! 😊
Nice to see Meia Praia getting a mention. My Parents live there and it is a great walk along the beach and the boardwalk with good beach restaurants along it!
ObrigadA Nick 😅 I always enjoy your videos and appreciate the time you put into them, looking forward to taking that train...5 weeks and counting! I also love to see the great coffee shops/ eateirs that I m committing to memory 😊
5 weeks! Yeah! You need to get your paddle on 😁 and if you're an organizer we can start up weekly paddles in the SUP Union (again). We used to do it a few winters ago.
Nice video, Nick, thanks. We've done the train from Lagos to VRSA and it's great...most of the time. Good bus service also exists, and of course, you have Bolt and Uber. We Bolt'ed from Loule to Faro at a very reasonable cost and without having to get from Loule city to the station (it's not really walkable). Cheers and keep it up.
I took the train from Portimao to Faro last year and it was fine! Very reasonable with my Senior discount! I would have taken more but a strike came up, so I switched to Flic bus, which was a good alternative! Nice video!
@@AlgarveAddicts Yes! I took them from Lisbon to Lagos and later from Faro to Porto, via Lisbon, due to the train strike! It was nice and a good alternative to the trains that were on strike! I can't wait to go back to Algarve, though!
I Live in Lagos and before near Porto. I have used trains all around Portugal. It's a nice view, but not the best in Portugal, nor the world. You pin pointed exactly how it is, being sea level doesn't help. There are trains where people pay just for the train ride, also in Portugal like the historical one in Douro region. That one is BY FAR better than this one in terms of scenery. Also, most of the times, trains work in Portugal, it's just people being negative all the time. I used to take the train to go to the university everyday for many years and later to work, I think I got affected by 3 strikes in all those years...
That's awesome, thanks so much for sharing. I'm trying to figure out the €49 per month regional train pass, but it's so complicated and only goes to certain places... Do you know more?
@@AlgarveAddicts search for it in Google and enter the 'eco' newspaper, appeared in first place. It's very detailed and pinpoint the limitations. For your daughter you may want to check out sub23 and 4_18. I used it to go to university but I don't remember the limition or if it would make sense here in algarve
6:15 "Sardines with the guts ". The portuguese way ... The only way😁 if you serve them without the guts they lose all the fat consequently all the flavour , of course you don' t eat the guts . If they are females you can eat the eggs sac very tasty and nutritious . You must learn to eat sardines with a portuguese .

That's fantastic! Great to hear. 😁
The statue at Lagos Station was erected last year to commemorate 50 years or so of train service at the Algarve.
Hi Uwe, that's interesting 🤔 I read that the Lagos line was completed in 1922 - maybe it was 100 years of service in 2022...
@@AlgarveAddictsYes it was 1922,there was even a special stamp and a medal.

Nice video Nick Ill be in Lagos in a month, I'll try out Everyday People!
I'm older and fit but think I'll just rent a car with AC!
Heheh, great idea! Let Everyday People know you saw them on Algarve Addicts and I'd love to hear how it went (good or bad). Cheers Larry.
Awesome!

Don't worry, I do. That story was back in 2001, my wife has taught me how to eat them. Her surname was "sardinha". Honestly.
Great video!! I have a future challenge for you. How about navigating the bus system there? 💪💪
Oooh wow, that'll be a challenge!
Great video! These trains appear to be diesel powered. Any plans to electrify this line? Are there toilets onboard?
They are currently in the process of electrifying the route (to my disappointment, because I love the old engines).
